Here yall go for raw restaurant review. The brunch menu is delicious and have been here 4times total. My last experience wasn’t the best and there was a lot of opportunities to attend to my concerns as a paying customer but nothing was done. Understood, it’s a Saturday and yall are busy but I didn’t feel cared for at all Almost felt like I could just go to the kitchen and cook my food myself. The dinner menu lambchops tasted absolutely disgusting! My friend paid $50 for a bowl of pasta that tasted like something I can’t even explain and was plated like something I cooked in my own house then put a purple rose on it “ please use flat deep dish plates for pasta next time it just makes it easy to eat and looks aesthetically more pleasing” The food is too overpriced. I wouldn’t mind the price if the service was top knotch. My friend didn’t even get her drink until it was time to pay out for our tab and take all the leftover food we couldn’t even eat home just to trash it. Literally no one ate it…I called the server over 3times to explain that the food tasted too overly seasoned and salty and we couldn’t eat it. Her response was she will go tell them at the kitchen with barely any empathy in her voice and never checked back in.This wasn’t one of the situations where someone was trying to get free food out of yall I just wanted exactly what I paid for.The food tasted ridiculous. If me and my 2 friends are paying over $350 for a dinner for a restaurant on westhiemer it better be everything I want and more. Nothing was done to resolve my issue and yall even put mandatory tip on my tab. I didn’t feel serviced or cared for at your establishment at all so why I’m I still forced to tip and since when is it mandatory 20% ? We dont go to black owned restaurants not because we dont want to support our people but statistically we get the lowest level of service for the prices we pay at black owned restaurants and i dont really understand why that is. And also the lady at the front desk that welcomes people look like she’ll slap anyone that comes too close and that’s not welcoming at all. If you work in the service industry that’s the least should not even be a debate, a warm smile at the door atleast… it doesn’t even have to be warm just don’t look at me like I’m about to come in here and steal. The Ambience is nice, I will not be coming back unfortunately but if anyone one goes it’s definitely my recommendation definitely go during brunch as the menu is better. Not everyone has bad experiences at restaurants but this was my...

Okay so there is definitely good... bad... and ugly when it comes to dining at Prey. For those who want a quick recap, don't waste your money because the food, drinks and ambiance are not worth the price.

For those who like a full recap read on...

We came to dine here for my BIRTHDAY dinner which also happens to fall on NYE, made reservations almost a month in advanced and were super excited to try a black owned "steakhouse/ fine dining" restaurant. After looking past the Instagram-able decor, prey was none of this. The music is controlled from the host stand, and if an employee doesn't like the song or station that is playing they will just change the music mid-song. It was the weirdest thing continuously hearing half played songs and playlists.

The menu is very limited, with no substitutions allowed. beware if you have any food allergies

One single margarita is TWENTY DOLLARS. Yes you read that right, not a grande size but a small cup full to the top with ice is priced incredibly steep. I was told the tequila in my margarita was don julio añejo but couldn't taste the tequila at all.

The table next to us sent their food back to the kitchen before we got the chance to order, which should have been our sign to leave after the appetizer.

We ordered the Oxtails and shrimp, as well as the Lobsta Pasta. Both servings were very odd in size the pasta being a huge bowl of just garlic butter angel hair pasta with one lobster tail on top and the oxtails being just shrimp and oxtails no carb or veggie added to the plate. The presentation was nice, and the flavors were good just completely over priced for the quality of food.

While I wished there would have been a complimentary dessert offered, or even a for purchase dessert offered there was none of that as the owner was too busy shooing people out of the restaurant to make room for his private New Years party.

Our service was great, though there was barely anyone in the restaurant on New Year's Eve. However, for a fine dining establishment, it truly bothered me the staff was allowed to wear "traditional sneakers"such as vans. This would not be allowed at any "similar" caliber restaurant (moxies, papadeauxs, Cheesecake Factory etc.) which I might mention each of the listed restaurants would have been cheaper for more food and substitutions.

Overall, for $200 + for two people, I personally would rather eat at a chain...

Let me explain the rating that I gave… Our visit took place Valentine’s Day weekend (that Sunday) we arrived at about 7pm with no reservations. Upon entering we were greeted by the host who started they could set us immediately although we had no reservation-great! The ambience was very cute with a couple of photo ops available. Upon being seated we were then greeted by our waitress…and given the QR code for the menu.

SERVICE: Bottom line our waitress just wasn’t that attentive. To me it was not busy night I’d say she had 2 no more than 4 tables (including us) often times I’d see her just standing around. We ordered drinks to start which took beyond enough time to get to us therefore when she came back we were ready to order our entrees. We placed our order after which we decided we wanted to add a side of mac & cheese as well. I had to wave her down to get her attention to made the additional request after waiting a while for her to return to check on us. The runner brought our food out once ready. By the time the waitress finally came over to check on how the food came out we were half way done eating. She would take so long to check on us that we ask for our ticket while we were still eating with the hope she’s return by the time we were actually ready to go. I ask for another drink by the time it arrived we had paid our bill and was ready to go. Which ended up being a waste because I had to pay for a lemonade refill and they did not have to go cups so I ended up leaving a full cup of lemonade. FOOD: I order the HIBACHI PASTA and my partner order the IMPERIAL CAJUN SALMON and of course the side of Mac and cheese. Over all he said his dish was good. The Mac and cheese was an absolute NO it had no cheese and no flavor. The pasta I order…ugh! The steak was nicely cooked and flavorful (the best part of the pasta) the pasta had absolutely no flavor, no seasoning, no nothing just a bowl of pasta with some sauce and then they had add slightly cooked white onions in there that was no listed on the menu. For $50.00 it was an absolute disappointment. I literally only ate the streak out the pasta and that was it.

A $162.00 later I’d have to say I don’t think I’d return to Prey. The lack of attentiveness of the waitress can be looked beyond but the food quality just wasn’t...

Fantastic vibe! Wednesday 8:30pm Located in the galleria area. This has nothing to do with the review on its own but more so to do with me. It always surprises me how many gems. Houston is fantastic, diverse, unique, and packed with attractions and restaurants. I think this area the restaurant is located in falls into that description. The restaurant is upstairs. If you're not familiar with the area, they have garage parking on the opposite end. It wasn't packed on this night but walking in can be interesting because you are walking between tables just to walk into the restaurant. The atmosphere & vibe was upscale with touches culture. So, great music playing softly so not to drown out conversation, large pictures, aesthetically pleasing light fixtures, and beautiful ppl enjoying themselves is what you will find. Perfect place for a middle of the week date night. If you're into that sorta thing. I don't believe it is mandatory to be in ball gown and tuxedo, but I do think they expect a certain decorum when dressing to attend the restaurant. Which I enjoyed. I love being in a space with well dressed and beautiful people. Prey provided that. Service was cool. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the dishes and the favorites. He made great suggestions towards drinks and tried to steer us in the right direction as far as entrees. Both meals were savory, filling, and very deserving of being favorites of the restaurant. I'm not a food connoisseur so you have to take my opinion as a grain of salt (minimal). My catfish was layered with fried shrimp on top of a bed of boudin rice. All delivered with a cream sauce. Savory is just a great word to describe all the flavors that were infused within that meal. I personally recommend it. The oxtails also had a cream with it but between the two meals I favored my catfish. For upscale, I thought that price point was fair. I personally believe the drinks are a little overpriced but that's my take on the matter. That doesn't take away from the amazing experience

I stalked their Instagram so I was excited to try this restaurant plus its BLACK OWNED! My girlfriend and I arrive and the host is nowhere to be found. After waiting a few minutes I literally had to walk over to the bar area and grab her attention. Prey is MUCH smaller than what it appears to be in the pictures, however there is outside seating available as well.. After being seated we scan the qr code and download the brunch menu. There's only about 5 items to choose from. Again they just started doing brunch service so that's understandable. We also ordered some cocktails which costs between $15-$20 per drink. There appeared to be only 2 servers working the whole restaurant which made service really slow. It took awhile to receive our drinks and mines was definitely not worth the wait, My friend had the peach Margarita which was actually good but too sweet for me. I ordered the pound cake "French toast" which was $22 and definitely not worth the price point. It's basically 3 small pieces of pound cake made to mimic the look of French toast. Please don't order this thinking it's going to taste like French toast it absolutely is just plain old pound cake lol the crab cake hash was actually pretty tasty but nothing special. Overall I think they need to rework the brunch menu and work on their service.. They add a 18% gratuity fee to your bill which is ridiculous seeing their service was slow. The pictures of their dinner menu look absolutely delicious, but brunch was a total bust in my opinion.
