So let me begin by saying saying I lived in New Albany for 12 years and made weekly or biweekly visits to thier location on Veterans Pkwy. When we moved over to this side 5 years ago we also frequently visited the Hurstbourne location as well. Except for 1 visit out of probably 60 to 80 over the last 10 years this was the best Hibachi in the city in my mind. Tonight changed everything. Firstly, we arrived at 540pm and were told 20 to 25 minutes for a table, at 740pm we were finally seated, with 3 small children (more on that in a moment) no issue, it was my birthday and this is where I wanted to go. The fact that there were no less than 75 people standing in a 160 sq ft lobby for hours waiting didn't bother us either, we wore masks and waited patiently even as staff and other customers buzzed around without masks. The real and only issue through this insane attempt for a restaurant to offer legitimate service tonight was the fact they added an 18% gratuity to our party of 3 adults and 3 children (ages 3,4 and 6) which is the only thing I truly took offense to. I have run 3 different restaurants in 2 cities over the last 20 years so I understand an automatic gratuity for large parties but for chriats sake not the small children. We spent over 200 at bar waiting for our 25 minute table, so I'm am flat upset over this medicore experience at Kansai tonight.the manager was "sorry" but I can tell you with the way Kansai presented themselves tonight we won't be back and it's shame because I still think thier food quality is second to none. Do yourself a favor and visit another Hibachi restaurant. The overall experience at others, even across the street will...
Read moreMy kids and I went to this restaurant because they love hibachi. We usually get hibachi every other Sunday after church. Our waitress seemed upset or like she had a problem with something, because everything she asked me came with a little smirk on her face. I wasn’t sure why.
When our server came out to serve us, I explained that I had ordered two entrees—one for me and one for my kids to split—because they can’t eat an entire entree by themselves. I’ve done this multiple times before. He went on and on about the chicken being “little chicken.” Then he said that the waitress told me we could get extra rice if my kids didn’t get vegetables. I told him that, but he insisted, “No, that’s the extra rice right there, by me splitting it up.” I was confused because both of their plates together would have made one full meal, so it wasn’t really the extra rice I was expecting. I decided to just let it go and said, “You know what, that’s fine. We don’t need it; they’re okay.”
While we were starting to eat our meal, the waitress came back and said, “The server said you’ve got a problem,” really loud in front of everyone. It was so embarrassing. I told her, “I don’t have an issue; we’re eating our food and we’re fine.” But then I added, “Now that you mentioned it, I do have a problem. I think we’re going to leave because we don’t feel welcome here.”
She responded that the server said I was upset and really hostile. I told her we wanted our check and that we were leaving. I also said we won’t be back and that we will be leaving a review. The people around our table were also shocked and uncomfortable with...
Read moreI have loved this restaurant as a place to drop in when I am by myself and need to eat quick and catch up on emails ect. That being said I had only previously dined alone . After taking my family it is not a place I would want to visit again even with just my spouse. Wait staff speak limited English which is ok but challenging and requires you to point at the menu at times. My son asked to substitute rice for noodles ( which are also served and on the menu) but was told " is not a possibility at all". Not even to pay extra as a side item. I in turn ended up ordering a dish I didn't particularly want that included noodles so that we could swap his rice for my noodles at the table. Very frustrating! This could have been done in the kitchen. The worst part though which leaves me with the desire to not return is everyone's food was brought out seperately.... as much as 10 minutes apart! I had my son go ahead and eat or his food would have been COLD. My husband ordered sushi only. It was very plain. Only fish and rice ... zero sauce or seasoning added. I was served a streaming hot plate much later and ate hot food while watching my family eat cold food because they kindly only picked at their plates waiting for me to be served. I wish that was it. The restrooms were DIRTY and after all this. We were brought our bill which we paid and still tipped.....and then we were brought an additional bill after already paying because the waiter had forgot to include a side salad. Less than $2 charge. We will not go back. Disappointing to...
