This was hands down one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. Im so very angry on all that was wasted on such a dump. I booked online in advance, and of course the pictures on the website are usually deceiving, but I was not expecting it to be as bad as it was and couldn’t believe it when I pulled into the parking lot. The hotel is completely run down and looks as though it could collapse at any moment. It did appear to be under renovations, and I want to be clear that thats not the reason for the place being such an eyesore. It was obviously just a trashy place in general. The lobby was very dark and completely empty. There was hardly any lighting at all and there was not any type of decor or even pictures hanging on the walls or anything. It gave me a very uneasy (almost creepy even) feeling when I walked in. It was almost like an abanded ghost town. Nothing welcoming or comfortable at all about the place. Not a person in sight. I actually had to yell “hello” about three times before anyone came into the lobby to greet me. And that was just the beginning of my horrible experience. My room was on the back side of the building (which was dark and creepy to say the least) and the door that I had to use to get from outside into the hallway didn’t lock, so anyone and everyone could enter the hotel at anytime. My room was the second room in the hallway after coming in the door and i didn’t feel safe at all being so close to that unlocked door. The knobs and buttons on the heat/ac unit in the room didn’t work correctly so it was a nightmare trying to set the temperature to my preference. There was no way to tell if it was set on hot or cold or if the temp was being turned up or down when adjusting the dials. It took about an hour and a half to finally get it to where it was heat coming out instead of cool air. Eventually it ended up being miserably hot in the room but I was afraid to try to lower it to a more comfortable setting out of fear that i would end up somehow with cold air again, so i just suffered through and dealt with being miserably hot and sweaty. The whole time. When i showered the next morning i couldn’t use the hair dryer because one of the prongs on the plug was broken off. Maybe im wrong but that seems a little dangerous to me. But I don’t know. I didn’t want to leave with wet hair because of it being so cold outside, and it takes awhile for my hair to air dry, so I called the front desk to see if I could get a late checkout. I was told no i could not and that i had to be out by 11am. It was already 1015 am and there was no way that I had enough time to allow my hair to dry and then style it before leaving. And i was going to the funeral home for a wake so I needed to at least make it look presentable. The final issue I had was without a doubt also the worst of them all, and it happened right before I left. As i was gathering the last of my things to leave I knocked something off the bed. When i bent down to pick it up off the floor I noticed a small black spot on the box spring. I instantly knew what I was looking at, but was hoping I was wrong. So I turned down the lights and turned on the flashlight on my phone, and sure enough ..there were bedbugs. Learning that I had shared a bed with hundreds of bugs was so unnerving and made me so grossed out that i literally ran to the bathroom and vomited. I left the econo lodge the day before yesterday, and still have yet to bring my belongings into my home out of fear that some of the bugs from the room got into them and I do not want to chance bringing them into my home. My things are just sitting outside next to my porch and am still trying to decide if i should just throw them away. This is the third bad experience in a row that i have had with choice hotels. Two out of the three involved bed bugs, and if I do decide to throw everything away then all three will include taking a loss on my personal belongings. That makes for a few extra expensive hotel stays, and in my opinion, it’s not acceptable . I’m not sure why i have continued to give choice another chance after each bad experience, but I think it’s safe to say that there will not be another one. Three bad experiences in a row is not very common, so it seems to me that it must be an issue/issues within the company overall. I feel like choice hotels has completely gone downhill over the last 10-15 years and if changes aren’t made and certain issues addressed accordingly, then it will only continue to do so. It’s a shame because I remember a time when the only hotels my family would consider staying at were from the chains that fall under the Choice Hotels Group. It’s safe to say that i will never again give my business to Choice, and I will continue to share my experiences with others in hopes they will...
Read moreMy apartment complex was resurfacing the parking lot on Thursday/ Friday this past week. Due to no available parking, I decided to stay in a hotel for the 2 nights. Louisville KY annual Bourbon Music Fest due to its popularity, hotels were booked the entire weekend. Choice Hotels recommended this hotel, and it was the only hotel with rooms available. I arrived after work on Thursday. My first impression was that the lobby was not pleasing to the eye. Very dingy looking and unfinished. I was checked in. The lady and her son seemed pleasant. She gave me a card and said to rate them 10. I went to the room. The desk chair was old and badly stained. The couch is also old with no cushion support and stained. I went into the hall to find the ice machine. It did not work. I went downstairs to get ice. The main ice machine does not work. A cleaning woman offered to get me ice. She came back with a bag of ice and poured some in the ice bucket. It was not a sanitary moment. I left and got ice from McDonald's. Driving back, the outside sign lights were not on. All the hotels in the complex lights were on. Most likely, it was not working. I asked the young man at the desk about wifi / internet service, and if codes are needed, He said no, just pick what Shows available. Friday, I called my apartment complex to see if the parking lot was completed. No, it was not. Residents are asked to resume return on Saturday. Upon leaving for work, I stopped at the front desk to advise my s that I would be staying that evening and leaving on Saturday. The young man was ok and agreed. He was unable to get his system to work. I told him I had to leave so that I was not late for work. He asked me to wait several more minutes - after 10 additional minutes, I told him to charge my card on file and I would return after work. My personal belongings are in the room. I gave him my cell phone number. I was at work for 15 minutes, and the lady (manager and his mother called) - Threatened to put my personal belongings out of the room and dispose of my belongings. I asked her if the young man told her what had happened, that their system was not working . She did not answer but instead talked down to me as though I was a criminal. She demanded my payment information. I proceeded - gave her the card number and expiration date. She came back and said, "Your card is no good it is not valid." I asked her to repeat the numbers and expiration date. She did not know October is the tenthl month - 10. Not 01. She did not apologize for her error. Saturday morning, I was leaving. She was at the desk. She did not greet me - did not look at me. I told her I was checking out and would like a receipt. She ran the receipt and put it on the desk. She did not thank me for staying. I will never stay at an Econo Lodge in the future. Disregarding and disrespecting your customer(s) is horrible. Service and cleanliness are null and void at...
