My friend and I visited Idaho Falls from the Boise area and wanted to smoke cigars and/or tobacco pipes. We found XVIII from a Google search of "cigar lounge near me". Before visiting we called XVIII and asked if we needed a reservation to smoke cigars, to which the hostess replied that a reservation was most likely not necessary on a Tuesday night, and also mentioned a "spark fee" which we misunderstood over the phone as a fee to enter the lounge and not smoke. When we arrived at XVIII we were then corrected. The fee of $20 per person was needed, along with a signed waver, to enter and smoke cigars in the smoking area. My friend and I were very confused, not just over the miscommunication regarding the fee, but also of the entire cigar lounge experience at XVIII. In the Treasure Valley there are a number of cigar bars, (Sturman's, The Vault, V-Cut) where the entire bar is open to cigar and tobacco pipe smoking with no liability "spark fee" or insurance waiver needed. XVIII's cigar lounge was a separate room dedicated to those who wished to smoke a cigar, and only cigars, segregated from the rest of the speak easy tavern and restaurant of XVIII. A conversation with the helpful server of the cigar area cleared all our confusion up about the expectations we had, through the lack of communication from the Google maps advertisement, the phone call with the hostess, and the initial greeting created. After finishing our drinks and cigars we were preparing to leave, when I asked when paying my tab if I might collect the 2nd free cigar that came with my purchase of two smoking fees. The hostess' attitude towards me and my request was very defensive, unhelpful, and unaccommodating. I would like to think that she misunderstood what I was asking, but after resolving the issue with the other staff and getting my 2nd cigar, I belive the problem with XVIII is a lack of management and customer service. We did not have positive interactions with the hostess and her lack of effort to communicate and clarify things with us regarding their lounge ended our night on a sour note. I would not recommend XVIII to anyone looking to smoke a cigar there.
P.S. To XVIII response to my review. Thank you for your reply. The hostess that served us was the crux of the issue with our visit. I am glad to hear she is no longer with your establishment and I hope she has found a job that is a better fit. Thank you again for your gracious response. I will reconsider visiting again when I am back in...
Read moreThis place has everything, amazing food, wonderfully balanced cocktails, a cigar room where you can chill in the low white noise of an air purifier as you contemplate life in an overstuffed chair! I cannot sing the praises higher of this place. These are real mixologists who take pride in their craft. They compete to have their cocktails on the next seasonal menu and it shows. Here is a little secret, ask your bartender to make you whatever it is they are working on and you will experience a totally new cocktail made with a complex mixture of love and precision with a dash of creativity. They have non-alcoholic cocktails as well that my friends say are excellent as well
Update: The new food items were spectacular. Their mixologists compete to have a drink on the...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting XVIII over the week of the 4th and it was an absolutely amazing experience from start to finish! From the moment I walked through the door, and down the stairs under the array of cool bottle I was greeted with a warm and inviting ambiance that immediately set the tone for a awesome evening.
The first thing that struck me was the bar's impressive selection of cocktails and high end spirits. The menu was incredibly diverse, offering a wide range of classic and innovative concoctions that catered to all tastes. Whether you're a fan of the classics or looking for something unique and adventurous, you're sure to find your perfect drink here.
Highly recommend visiting this bar while you're in...
