First time visit this morning. Cool vibe and decent coffee, but food was just ok and service sort of negated everything. First we were greeted by the "soft talker", a young gal who we couldn't hear at all. I asked what was good to eat and just got "everything". No smile. Nothing. Ended up getting the avo toast, which I thought would be a safe bet, but it was overly lemony, undoubtedly to try to preserve the avo. When I picked up my coffee, I asked if I could have some salt for my avo toast, which I hadn't yet received. I was told by the other surly young girl that "the toast already comes with salt". Sure enough, it wasn't salty enough and I ended up asking for more when I got it, which was met with a bit of an attitude. Then my friend, who ordered her cappuccino extra hot, received it tepid at best. She asked if they could zap it and they said they didn't have a microwave. My friend just sat there looking, until she finally got a "well I GUESS we can remake it". These gals were clearly not happy to be there and seemed put out at every small request. Neither ever cracked a smile, yet the starting tip suggestion was 20%. Service at a coffee bar is not full service, so it should never start at that point anyway, but given the attitudes, I was mad that I tipped anything at all. Not sure I'd go back, TBH. Way too many better choices in...
Read moreMy husband and I were very excited to try this coffee shop, but unfortunately it was not what we expected. We had to wait for our barista to finish up using his phone for him to take our order. After we ordered he proceeded to take two more orders after us. We waited and eventually sat down to wait. We noticed the people who ordered after us got their drinks before us. We kept waiting and we soon realized he was cleaning up and announced that they were closing in 2. We arrive a bit over 20 minutes before closing. We were quite upset he forgot to make our drinks. I get it, mistakes happen, but the whole experience was not okay. We had to ask him about our coffee. Aside from everything the coffee tasted great, you pay a bit more for what you get but that’s okay. I felt like they used quality ingredients so I’m more than happy to pay a higher price. We left and walked over to Trader Joe’s and the cashier asked where we got our coffee. She said that Form and Function had really good coffee, we agreed. Unprovoked she said it was a shame they have terrible customer service. I was speechless to say the least! According to other reviews online it wasn’t just an off day but a common occurrence. I was hoping to find a local place where I could buy quality coffee in large quantities, but this place isn’t it. I hope to change my review...
Read moreForm & Function is one of my favorite Boise coffee shops for the following reasons:
The amazing coffee - these baristas know their stuff. From single origins to blends, the flavor notes hit exceptionally well and the coffee is unique and made with expertise that you don't find at many coffee houses.
The atmosphere - clean, modern, and reserved - this is not Dut*h Bros so don't expect to be greeted by a 14 year old teenager on their 8th Rebel for that day. The baristas are quiet, the music is tasteful and makes it easy to focus on work or school, and the decorations are modern and clean.
The prices - when I go somewhere to get coffee, I am prepared to pay for quality coffee but not spend $8 on a pour over. Form & Function has this dialed. The prices are excellent and what you should expect/quite reasonable for what you get.
Bottom line, don't expect Starbucks speed or Dutch Bros pop music when you visit Form & Function but get ready for a tasty, flavorful, and expertly crafted...
