GREAT PLACE - I’ve only been to Indianapolis a few times over the last 3 years. I’ve walked by this establishment several times but never really stopped to look at the place or the menu. My son moved to Downtown Indy about a year ago. We were looking for a place to go tonight for dinner and my son suggested India Garden, so we all decided to go here for dinner. My son and his roommate have only ordered their food to go and said it was good. They were not wrong. This place is clean, the staff is very helpful and friendly. Found out tonight that they have been in business for over 23 years. I know why, the food is very good and flavorful. We started with Chicken Pakora as an appetizer. Then we moved to the main course: Tandoori Chicken (very nice), Lamb Curry (Really good), Chicken Tikka Masala (very tasty), Mixed Vegetables in (I think) a Korma Sauce (Wow very nicely prepared vegetables and the sauce was made with cashews - so it had a very nice creamy texture with a great flavor) - we ordered Garlic Naan to soak up all the sauces. Very nicely baked bread. This restaurant can accommodate small and large groups and also do a lot of catering if needed. Stop by if you want a good meal that won’t break the bank either. I will be going back for sure.

I was on my way to an entirely different restaurant and saw this on my way. I love Indian food and chose to change plans last minute. I could not be more glad that I did!! Price point: I ordered the sampler platter at the back of the menu. I am absolutely blown away! This cost less than my burger and fries down the road. Food: The tandoori chicken is perfectly cooked, the lamb was falling apart off my fork, the mint chutney was delightfully surprising and spicy in the best way, the naan is unmatched, and the vegetable dishes were flavorful. The only less than perfect thing I could say is that I ordered tea I never got, and to be honest I couldn’t care less about it. The mango pineapple dessert was fresh, tangy, and sweet. The perfect ending. 10/10 chefs kiss 🤌🏼 Atmosphere: It is very nice in here and I am seriously underdressed. (Oversized tee shirt and work out shorts) Staff: The staff were so nice and reassured me multiple times that I am welcome and there is no dress code. My waiter has been so patient and attentive!

It was an interesting dining experience. I wasn't overly impressed, unfortunately. In my opinion, Campbells' tomato soup with paneer in it. And the "spinach" dish was NOT spinach, it was either turnip or mustard greens by the taste of it. The bread was the best part. The roti was nice and soft with a tender "chew" and both the garlic and regular Naan were very tender and nice too albeit a tiny bit too crispy on some of the edges but still good. The fried paneer was good. The samosas were enjoyable. The rice was unremarkable. The delivery by Door Dash was fantastic! Overall, I think it's a lot of extremely over-priced and surprisingly bland and under-salted and over-rated food and I won't spend that kind of money again for such an underwhelming, rather disappointing, dining experience.

I wish I could leave 0 stars. I will never return. Disrespectful owner yelled at me over the phone, and when I asked him to calm down because I was not attempting to be rude or to argue, he hung up on me.

The issue:

India Garden states on google that the restaurant closes at 10 pm, so I ordered a meal for pick up at around 8:30 pm, and didn’t intend to pick it up until close to 10 pm on my way home from a meeting — who cares if I want to order at 8:30 and not pick up until 9:55/10–it’s my prerogative. And, I obviously assumed based on google that the store would be open until 10, as advertised.

The owner called me yelling at 9:30, stating that he was going to close the store at 9:45, so I needed to pick-up the order immediately. I politely reminded him that google states that the restaurant closes at 10 pm, and he yelled: “I don’t care, no order stays here past 45 minutes! We are closing at 9:45!” and hung up the phone.

Two things:

  1. India Garden closes at 10 pm, not 9:45 (or whatever other arbitrary time you feel like choosing that day), per google. This needs to be corrected immediately. If you close at 9:45, say that—do not say you close at 10.

  2. It is India Garden’s (NOT the customer’s) fault that the hours are incorrect on google, so stop being rude and yelling at customers because you were too lazy to update your store hours.

I will never eat here again, and will always share my experience with anyone I meet....
