Order: Crab Rangoon appetizer, pineapple fried rice, Red Curry Price: $35 Pros: Flavor of the food was delicious and on point, the curry specifically was tremendous, good variety on the menu Cons: There "spiciness" ratings change based on the food and can get very spicy, not an intimate environment to a couples dinner
Thoughts: This is one of the better Thai restaurants I've eaten at in Jacksonville, and while we may not have hundreds of them, I have tried at least 5 in the city. While this place doesn't have the typical Thai decor with Buddha statues, grass, and bamboo everywhere; in fact they went with an odd "modern" vibe, the food is particularly flavorful. I will say that if you go as a couple you will probably get one of their many 2 person table and sit across from one another. Because they have so many of these, and they put them quite close together you don't really get that "intimate setting" that you might be looking for in a date night restaurant.
As far as the food was concerned though it was absolutely delicious; while I'm not really a big fan of Crab Rangoon, this was probably be best dish I've had and my wife loved it. She ordered the pineapple fried rice and as the picture shows it came in a carved out pineapple that was filled to the brim with a mixture of fried rice, pineapple, cashews, raisins, chicken, and shrimp. It was really good, and there was a lot of food, you could easily split it with 2 people. I got the red curry and it had to the be best red curry I've ever had. I overhead one of the waitresses say that they had delicious curry and they weren't kidding. The flavor was fantastic, they didn't skimp on the chicken, and they didn't give you too much rice. You do want to be careful if you don't appreciate spicy food as their food has a lot of heat. I personally love spicy food but my wife and I both asked for ours at a 2 out of 5 heat so we could share and mine was significantly hotter than hers. Mine was a spicy dish and hers was not but if you don't like spicy food you may wan to clarify with the server.
Overall a really fantastic place to eat Thai, I wish their layout was a little better wish a quieter more personal atmosphere but food wise there is really nothing I...
Read moreI just picked my husband up from the airport right before 11Am. And I went there because I, my husband and my 3 years old baby, feel pretty hungry. When we walked there, it was right around 11:05. We sat there for a few minutes and started to order. My husband ordered spring rolls that was looking pretty good and ordered the chicken stay with a bowl of white rice for my baby, and we also ordered the food at the same time. After we placed our order, it is getting busy. a big group of people, and a few more tables came there after 5-10 minutes right after we ordered. We sat there for quite a while, but the big group of people they ordered after but got food before we even got our appetizer, I was tried to be positive and thought maybe they make reservation and order before they get there but I heard them order when they at the table. When we got chicken-stay, I noticed the other tables started to get their food, and we had sat there for over 35-40 minutes. and just sat and hoped we would get our food. Now I am super hungry. After I see many tables got the food, I can not be positive anymore and need to cancel the rest of the food that we wanted. We ended up paying only for the appetizer and leaving because my teenage daughter was waiting at school for us to pick her up. When I said I wanted the bill and canceled the food I did not get yet, the lady that served us just said the food about to come out after we had already waited for 45 minutes. She said we can't cancel because the food is about to come out, I said I ordered the food before the other 6 tables ordered, but we did not get our food, they finish the food for 8 people at one table and other tables that came right after us. Her excuse was, " If you want the food faster, you shouldn't order an appetizer." This upset me even more. I told her that I also worked at a restaurant and that I knew customer service. You should serve the people that oder first regardless if they have an appetizer or not. Did you expect us to eat the appetizer and then get the rest of the food to go? People do not have 2 hours...
Read moreMy wife read this was the best rated Asian restaurant in Jacksonville. We decided to try it and see if that is true. When you walk in it’s like a thousand other Asian restaurants you’ve been in. Nice enough but nothing to write home about. It’s a tables layout with glass top tables and chairs are comfortable enough. My wife said you would have never eaten here unless you heard it was so highly rated. She’s right so you should never judge a book by the cover! We ordered edamame and some fried dumplings. Both were served perfectly cooked and delicious! For entrees, my wife ordered Spicey shrimp and Basil fried rice. I ordered Pad Thai with beef. You can order the amount of heat you want on a scale of 1 to 5. My wife ordered a 3 and she said it was plenty hot! I do t like any heat so I ordered NO heat! My wife raved about her entree and so did I. The food tasted fresh as if it was made today, not a left over from this past week. My dish was equally delicious and. Left some to take home. We didn’t have desert as there is a cupcake/dairy bar next door and my wife wanted to try their cupcakes. Green Papaya is rated the best in Jacksonville for a very good reason! The food is delicious! Oh and the price? More than reasonable got two people and a small bottle of wine, $62! We also had a very nice conversation with a couple at the table next to ours. All around a great experience! I give Green Papaya 4 Chef...
