Cost. Coffee is good, but overpriced. A large late is $6.93 including tax, and over 7 dollars depending on the milk option. A $1 tip in this case (with different milk option) would bring the total to nearly $9. Can't think of a world where this is justifiable.
Staff. You'll get a 'what can I get you', and a 'thank you'. I don't go there for chat, so that's fine with me. They don't appear to be interested in building a relationship, or at least, I've been going there for months and not once have I been asked anything other than what would I like to order. Besides that, the staff look cranky most of the time. One of the staff members has a habit of shouting when the order is ready. This would be appropriate when the cafe is busy, or in large and loud cafes like Starbucks. But not when it's quiet, and the place itself is small. I've seen people jump from their seats from this guy's shouting.
Atmosphere. Transient. Most people come and go. There is a beautiful little garden out the back. Lovely in the summer time. There isn't a whole of space inside, so 2 or 3 people on a laptop would make it look at least half full.
Speed. They do work through the orders quite fast. Always very satisfied in this department.
Location. The area around the cafe is lovely, and ripe for a walk. Residential, yet right beside Newark Ave, which for anyone familiar with the area, is a...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend were in town for lunch. Afterwards we stopped by Dames for coffee. I searched top rated coffee and they were near the top of the list. Unsure what to expect, we were more then pleased! Very friendly. Coffee was amazing. Good assortment without being overwhelming. The baked good looked amazing. We each had a brownie, which were excellent! Everything is homemade. The chocolate in my Cafe mocha was made fresh from cocoa powder that morning. Definitely a hidden gem! Very reasonable, especially considering the quality. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who loves small private owned cafés. The owners were very friendly. Nothing generic here... A must go for anybody who's in the area. Please stop in and pay them a visit! I'll...
Read moreMy wife and I have been going here regularly for over a decade and I can safely say this is the single best coffee shop in downtown Jersey city by far. If you find yourself a coffee purist, love consistently high quality cappuccinos and espresso drinks, homemade banana bread, baristas who greet you with a genuine smile, and a cozy vibe with a cute backyard, this is your place to go!
I love to try different coffee shops but find myself coming back to the quality, consistency and the warm atmosphere here. If you know any other coffee shop that comes even close in downtown, I’d...
