9 and c gets a 3 for our brunch, bit I'm giving a 4 because I think they were having a short staff problem and I'm giving then the benefit of the doubt because while our food took forever, the staff was very nice and the place had such a friendly neighborhood vibe. They also get a bonus point for being dog friendly. As litteraly every other one of the dozen patrons knew each other and the staff by name, this is obviously a friendly neighborhood place popular with locals. It had a very Cheers feeling. Service was very friendly, but very slow, apparently because someone didn't show up for work. My mimosa was good but forgettable though my wife got a bloody Mary and was asked if she wanted a "bloody Irishman" instead which is basically two times the size and stronger. She said it was fantastic. Drinks did also take a very long time to come after ordering though food took almost an hour. The burger was good, the meat was top quality and very well cooked, but it was missing seasoning. The homemade coleslaw was superb though. The stuffed French toast was very good as well. The blueberries and crenam cheese were great though it was an incredible amount of food. The bacon on the side was ok but definitely packaged. The staff was very friendly, and brought our dog water, but it would have gone a long way to offer any sort of appology for...
Read moreDrunk bartender caused a scene and wanted to fight me over something so simple.
Hopefully the owner can reach out to me about this. But I was here with my friends for a couple of hours. I went to the bar to close out my tab. When I got the bill back, I realized there was an extra drink that nobody had not ordered.
Simple, I told the waitress/bartender that there was an extra item. She said she would figure it out. She said she was new and was very busy so I was standing around waiting for a while until she finally came back. No problem. She gave me the refund back in cash which was fine.
I realized the refund was not for the full amount of the drink and told the waitress/bartender. She said ok and went back to the register. This is when the other bartender guy got involved and took over. He came to me and accused me of lying. He was calling me cheap and was getting aggressive and rude.
He was short guy with small man complex. The conversation with this man eventually escalated to the point where he caused a scene and stormed out of the bar wanting to fight me.
I obviously didn't engage in something so stupid. The supervisor at the time also tried defending the actions of the bartender. Insane.
Both should be fired. There are many other level headed professional people out there who could do a better job...
Read moreEd & Mary's is by far the best bar in Jersey City and one of my favorite pubs anywhere in and around NYC. The owners are kind, generous, welcoming, and clearly actually like each other – and that comes through with how the staff treats their customers. As someone who moved to the area last year, I quickly found E&M's to be the only place in JC where I could reliably find a proper Guinness and good banter with the regulars.
If you're a TouchTunes addict like me, this is a great spot to post up. Just please don't fast-pass me with something worse than the bangers I've already got in the queue!
Some favorite food items include: Buffalo Wings (well done is best), the Market Salad w/chicken and bacon (sounds like a lot but trust me), the burger (if there's a better one in JC or Hoboken, I'd like to meet it), and the Cubano.
Raymond, Rachel, Nina, Eric, and Dave are some of my favorite bartenders of all time....
