The owners are very West coast in demeanor, very laid back, so don't expect service in a New York minute at Subia's. Enjoy the smell of fresh fruits and veggies being juiced while you're waiting your turn for service. The owners(twins!) and wait staff(presently in Hawaii) are extremely knowledgeable about all the products they sell and serve but it's usually just two persons manning the shop at a time so expect some wait time while at Subia's. I've always found it to be worth the wait.
About two thirds of Subia's is dedicated to the supermarket and juice 'bar' which has a surprisingly large variety of products given the small square footage they have. Mile high shelving and several refrigerated and frozen food cases are brimming with everything from fresh greens straight from the farm to prepared vegan dinners, from spices and coffees to shampoos and soaps.
Order your juices from the juice window at the rear of the store and enjoy them while seated in their restaurant or on the park benches set up out front.
Subia's is the only place in Jersey City I know of to buy bags and flats(half or full) of wheatgrass for my home juicing. Wheatgrass of this quantity must be pre-ordered from the farm as the stock kept on hand at Subia's is used for individual juices at their juice bar.
About one third of Subia's is dedicated to their restaurant. It's décor is simple, on the organic side, with wood and wrought iron tables and an eclectic mix of art and religious icons decorating the walls. The restaurant is not a place to order quick, pre-made food. Everything is made fresh with a wonderful combination of ingredients and flavors so expect some wait time while your food is prepared. Occasionally service is downright slow but you won't mind once your food arrives. My personal favorite is their BLT sandwich. Served on organic, whole grain bread, it consists of tempeh, avocado, assorted greens(some days it's assorted lettuces, other days it's microgreens), and vegan mayo served with chips and homemade salsa. I'm not sure if I like the sandwich or the salsa the best, they're...
Read moreI’m not the one to write reviews at all. But this that happened to me has to be shared about the people working at this place. This is the 3rd time they send my order incomplete. Today was the same thing , I ordered 3 chicken nugget platters , spent over $100 in food for my kids and family to have dinner and they only send me 1 chicken nugget platter and 2 cakes. Called the restaurant and my call got passed down from staff to staff (3 different voices got on the phone) fortunate for me , unfortunately for them , they did not Mute the phone and I heard all 3 staff while I was on hold literally cursing me out and shouting back and forth about my annoying self being on the phone upset ABOUT THEIR MISTAKE. Like they literally were mad that I was mad because I paid for some thing I didn’t get. This is the 3rd time they’ve done this so it’s a regular thing that happens. And don’t you dare to call in about their mistake. You will get cursed out too. The owner got on the line and had the nerve to tell me “you matter as a client” all along while I heard ALL OF HER STAFF joking and disregarding and disrespecting me with obscenities that Google won’t allow me to post on this review. Lost my tip money on Uber eats ($20 tip) lost my delivery fee of Uber ($6-$9) and no dinner at the table. HEY OWNER , whomever got on the line for this issue , great way to NOT retain a client and make them more upset. YOUR ENTIRE STAFF IS...
Read moreUpon arriving to this establishment for my first experience, I had high hopes. After entering I was even more shocked and pleased with their vegan selection. However, once me and my lady found seating, selected our food, and placed an order we were approached ubruptly. This employee, a middle age woman waltzes to our table giving an attitude about the order me and my lady placed. Telling us how we couldn't order lunch since we had arrived in the morning, and how next time it won't happen but since they weren't busy at the moment it could be acceptable, this was stated with the nastiest under tone of rudeness. Now considering she was not our waitress, there was no disclaimer on the menu, and the waiter did not make this clear to us when we placed the order, we weren't even sure why we were being addressed. So after giving it some thought me and my lady had no choice but to dismiss ourselves from this restaurant before our food made it out to the table. Wish I could've tried the food, but the customer service was so terrible I'm perfectly fine without it. To the middle age woman at the restaurant; I strongly suggest that you and the rest of the staff invest in Robert Farrell's "Give 'em the Pickle" training DVD and really pay close attention to the principles of customer service. Wouldn't reccomend this place to anyone until that issue is...
