Harpo's seems to have had quite a bit of history over the years. Having moved into the Midtown area last November, Harpo's has become my "go-to" bar/pub in Westport. Heck, when I want to relax and get a decent-quality burger, Harpo's is usually where I go. I will advise you that if you're looking for food, not to expect the greatest burgers on the planet. They're "generic" compared to many other locations throughout Midtown/Westport area (not saying that they're bad, they're quite yummy; but if you're looking for "strange/new/different" combinations of toppings/etc .. you won't find it here).
Environment Four Stars (**)
If you're looking for a bar that is fairly laid back and peaceful during the weekdays, this is the ideal place for you in Westport. Other bars are going to be insanely packed and crowded, whereas you'll be dealing with people that you probably do not want to deal with (while in antisocial/relaxing mode). They do broadcast different sports, if that's your thing. There is plenty of seating (indoors and on the patio when it's open). You won't really find a better place if you're just in the mood to relax with a few drinks and some food.
Food: Four Stars (**)
Like I said, you won't find anything entirely out of the norm when it comes to Harpo's. This is a good thing! You're here at the bar/pub to just eat something to go with the booze, no? Or is that just me? Kidding! It's not like you need to be intoxicated to eat their burgers. Each burger I've eaten were superb and met expectations. I highly suggest trying the sweet potato fries, as they're seasoned and taste good. Whether or not they're frozen, I can't really tell (usually, I can). But they are good, either way. There are plenty of other things to try that I've had decent results with (chicken tenders, nachos, and similar appetizers). So if you're worried about getting some grub while drinking here: don't - you'll be fine.
Alcohol/Booze: Four Stars (**)
I'm a sucker for cocktails. They have plenty of deals/specials on beer throughout the week (check out their website for more information, I think). However, due to it being just a local "Mizzou" bar/pub, you won't find some of the more eccentric beers that you'd find at other locations. As mentioned, I usually will order a cocktail while waiting for my food. Each time I've ordered a drink (or a second.. or third.. depending on my mood), they've been fairly strong. Warning for those who are "connoisseurs" of cocktails, they won't have every combination that you may ask for. This is pretty standard for many pubs/bars that favors beer over strong liquor. For the simple, common-American style drinks (long islands, black/white Russian, and so forth) - you won't find any issue at Harpo's when ordering.
Customer Service: Four Stars (**)
The waitresses and bartenders are both very attentive to ensure you're having a decent time. I don't really judge a waitress or bartender on looks, so that's something for some of the other reviews (I imagine). As far as personality goes, they're all fairly laid back and will ask if there's anything they can get for you (refill on a cocktail/beer or otherwise).
Overall: Four Stars (**)
At the end of the day, Harpo's can range between a quiet get-away from the busy streets of Westport to, on the weekends at least, become an all-out sports bar with a crowd. The service is fairly spot-on and I've never had an issue with the level of service I've been given. Drinks are heavy, food is good, and the people are nice. Give Harpo's a try if you're a local that's...
Read moreDid I ever tell you about that one time when there was actually one person who existed in the universe that was worth a $#!+? Because it happened at Harpo's, let me tell everyone the story. I had a budget to take some of my coworkers for special night out. Because we had a really great month and everyone came through with their performance. However I have lost my phone at a bar somewhere in Westport. And after this person who is known as "Super Jesus" let me use his phone, to call my own... Well, that's when I found out that miracles are real everyone. I don't know who it was? I don't know if it was a waitress or bartender or just a Good Samaritan whose heart was free of malice intentions. But someone, I don't know who they are, I don't know what their name is? Was kind and gracious and generous enough to make sure that my phone ended up behind the bar with the bartender where a lost phone belongs. And it renewed my faith. It renewed my faith in karma. It renewed my faith in all of existence and creation. It renewed my faith in humanity and the universe. It renewed my faith in what we can truly be as one. One world, one Society, one human family. If just one person could figure out how to do the right thing for a change. Just for one other person. Just one time, no questions asked, without wanting anything in return. Just because we are members of the same family of all eternal light that exist in the universe. But maybe I'm wrong? Perhaps you should go to Harpo's, and tell me...
Read moreWe went into Harpos on 9/11 at 1:15pm. When we sat down the waitress told us that the kitchen was behind so it may be a small wait. We were fine with that. We were sitting right next to the bar and food service window. The waitresses all congregate or passed by our table multiple times. I only mention this because it was impossible that not only our waitress but all the waitresses saw us sitting there. After a 2 hour wait we asked the waitress if she could find out how much longer our 3 chicken wraps, quesadilla and club sandwich would be. She came back and said the kitchen hadnât printed our ticket so they hadnât made our food but would do so right away. It took another 30 minutes for our entrees to come out 1 by 1. The last person in our party to get their food got it 30 minutes after our first order hit the table. It is now 3:45. The waitress at no time seemed upset by what had happened to us or apologetic that she had failed to check on our food in all that time. She did say they would discount our meal which was slightly apologetic but then brought out or full cost ticket and a handful of 20% off 1 item coupons for our next visit. While I understand understaffing and we tried to be patient with the whole thing it was flat out insulting to give us coupons for our next visit especially since we live almost 2 hours away and weâre only there for the art show. I absolutely would not recommend this establishment to anyone. Our experience...
