This is one of many DDD joints in Kansas City, which I really didn’t know was on the TV show until I went in… I selected The Brick for lunch on the day I went as a result of all the positive reviews. I’ve pretty uch given up on trying to find DDD joints to visit when I travel (as I travel for work a LOT!!) because so many are either stuck on their being on the show or have gone out of business since (also as a result of being big-headed from being on the show)… so, I’ve found it to be the kiss of death for those who don’t know how to properly manage their business. But not here!!!
Sherry, who owns this business, is so very friendly and amazing! She comes up with all the items on the menu herself, which is incredible, as she’s also busy running the front of the house of her business. The day I went, they were moderately busy for late lunch. No bands were playing, but they have a stage and bands play often here. The menu is loaded with interesting, original dishes she’s come up with. I had a hard time deciding, so while sitting at the bar, where she was working/serving, I asked her what’s good and when she said the meatloaf sandwich, I went for it, not realizing it was also featured on DDD.
I started with a cup of chili and I loved that when I asked for it, she countered by asking how I wanted it topped! I chose jalapeños – yum! The chili was flavorful, with more than one style of bean and loaded with plenty peppers – yum!!
The meatloaf sandwich was incredible! The meatloaf was soft, flavorful, and perfectly put together to be sturdy without hard or tough. Incredible flavor and texture, which seem to be the tough part about making the perfect meatloaf. And the bread it was on was incredible! Overall – loved it! I also got their double-beer battered onion rings as a side and those were awesome! Nice sweet onions inside with a great, not to tough batter on the outside!
Overall, great service, great menu, great execution… This is truly a place that deserves the 5 stars they are getting. She’s doing it right and I hope she continues to be successful! I’ll definitely visit when...
Read moreI’m honestly mad that I’m a local, born and raised, and yesterday was somehow my first time at The Brick. We went in the middle of the day, so parking was a breeze and there was no wait. You could tell immediately when you walked in that, yes, it’s an older building, but they keep it CLEAN and you can tell they put a lot of love and pride into everything they do. Cool artwork. And there was a stage so I’m just assuming they do live music sometimes and I have to figure out when that is and come back. The waitress was sweet and attentive. Now, onto the food. I am picky. I’ll admit it. I consider myself a great cook so when I go out to eat I’m usually disappointed. Not this time. We both got burgers. My husband got the daily special that was kind of like a BigMac. And I got the naked burger with the salad and cottage cheese but I added grilled onions, mushrooms, and cheese to my burger. It was all 10/10 delicious. I don’t have a complaint or even a creative critique. I honestly wanna go back today lol! We also got a Chicago dog “to go” for our teenager at home. But we devoured it the second we got in the car, and have no regrets. Except maybe not getting two of them. Or ten. Don’t judge me, just go and try them for yourself…...
Read moreI haven't eaten meat in almost 30 years, but once upon a time I worked at Bob Evans, and honestly, their homestyle chicken noodle soup was the biggest temptation ever. Now unfortunately, the dish pictured below, and the inspiration for this review, was just a daily special, but it was enough to get me to drive downtown and I'll be a follower for life. Even if I try and hate every other vegetarian menu item, which I suspect is highly unlikely, I will wait here patiently until they make this soup again.
Just look at the huge hardy chunks of colorful veggies in this bowl! And those thick fluffy noods in a flavorful broth that's more like stew than soup. One of the most satisfying bowls of soup I've enjoyed in a very long time. At $8 a quart, I wish I'd bought 2...or 3!
I placed this order for take away, right as they opened on a Wednesday. When I arrived, I was the only customer in the place, clean, yet dive-y - the kind of place I could hang out, but for covid and whatnot. The server was so friendly and pleasant. Definitely a place worth visiting (or at least ordering togo...
