We came here for Father’s Day as something special for us to experience. Admittedly, I had never been to the Cheesecake Factory, so I was excited for what was in store, and to have transparent first visit here. We were able to get an reservation with ease, which was surprising considering it was only a few days in advance. When we arrived, we were promptly taken to our table upstairs without wait. A few minor issues upon arrival; a singular dirty knife and some light table debris, but were quickly remedied by our hard working server, Matt (a total rock star). The menu is extensive but not overwhelming, the choices are all tempting and exciting. The kids menu offered a surprising amount of versatility, which I appreciate when wrangling two young children. Warm bread was delivered to the table, which is never a bad thing. We started off with the Ahi Poke Nachos, featuring wonton chips, ahi tuna, avocado, spicy red chili slivers and a drizzle of sriracha aioli. Slightly spicier than expected but fine for my personal taste. Our server made delightful conversation and continued to check on us often, refills were delivered promptly without asking. I ordered the Lunch special meatloaf, which was still generous. I can’t imagine how large the dinner portion is. The meatloaf was impressive, a combination of sweet tomato and rich brown gravy was right on the mark. I also had a particular fondness of the mashed potatoes, which carried a thicker texture than average (but is exactly how I enjoy them). A garnishing of mushrooms and onions was exactly what was needed to take this already great dish up a notch. My wife ordered the Renee Special, which offered a triple threat style lunch of a half sandwich, side salad and cup of soup. I was able to taste each of the elements, which I was pleased with. I could see it being a perfect traditional lunch. Lastly, we ordered some cheesecake to-go, which we didn’t have to wait long for. Our food was boxed up by our server Matt, which I always deem a classy move and greatly appreciate. Prices are above average, but the service soared today and I felt the value was satisfying for a special occasion. I’d like to return again and check out the consistency, but today was a win for all parties. I’d like to note that our server Matt had to run up and down the stairs all afternoon today, which I felt bad about, but he was a great sport. I noticed a second bar and kitchen which were not utilized today, which surely would have helped mitigate his need to hustle hard all day. I would have guessed staffing would be a little heavier on a day like Father’s Day, but that seemed to not be the case. All in all, Matt worked very hard today considering his...
Read moreLast night, I found myself at The Cheesecake Factory, swept into an atmosphere that could only be described as a symphony of energy and anticipation. The air was rich with the intoxicating aroma of sizzling dishes, while a steady stream of customers queued patiently, eager for their turn at the tables. When my moment arrived, I was ushered to my seat, the hum of conversation and clinking cutlery enveloping me like a warm tide.
It must be said, the staff were visibly working at full capacity, every waiter dressed in black, darting between tables in a well, rehearsed dance of urgency. I forgave the slight delay in service, understanding that the sheer volume of diners demanded a certain patience. The menu, when it arrived, was a parade of possibilities, an embarrassment of culinary riches. I lingered over the choices, torn between indulgences, before finally alighting on the Spicy Ginger Beef Tenderloins, a dish whose name promised heat, depth, and intrigue.
The wait for my meal was punctuated by an unexpected visit from the manager, who informed me, politely yet apologetically, that the kitchen was short of the white rice accompaniment. Alternatives were offered: brown rice or mashed potatoes. Now, brown rice, for me, holds an identity crisis, it flirts dangerously with the look of Ghanaian jollof, yet delivers none of its joy. And jollof, in my book, is only worth the journey when made in Ghana. Thus, mashed potatoes it was, with a side of French fries for good measure.
When the plate finally arrived, my anticipation curdled into quiet dismay. The promised “spicy” was nowhere to be found; the “ginger” seemed to have fled entirely. What sat before me was a bland, uninspired imposter, a dish stripped of its spirit. Each bite confirmed my disappointment: it was not worth the wait, the money, nor the tantalising build-up.
Still, I am inclined to believe in redemption. Perhaps this was merely an off day for the kitchen, an unfortunate blip in an otherwise capable establishment. I will return, but never again for the Spicy Ginger Beef Tenderloins. Consider this a friendly warning: at The Cheesecake Factory in Kansas City, let your appetite roam freely through the menu, but steer clear of that...
Read moreI’ve never been able to put my finger on how, no matter where I go in the country, if there is a Cheesecake Factory it’s going to be busy and you’re going to have to wait for a table. They have definitely found the “secret sauce” of getting people in the door.
My visit to the Cheesecake Factory in Kansas City, MO was no different. We showed up at 6PM for dinner and sure enough there was a 40 minute wait (which I found to be pleasantly shorter than usual). Note: They do not take reservations.
I’m always amazed at how extensive the menu is. Page, after page, after page of food choices. I mean, the appetizers take up 3 pages! Surprisingly, despite the sheer number of options, the kitchens across the country deliver on execution of each plate flawlessly. I can’t recall ever having a bad meal at a Cheesecake Factory.
Tonight we started with the Fried Cheese. Now technically, according to the menu, this was a small plate and not an appetizer but it was enough for 3 people to share. What I liked about it was, it wasn’t just your typical “cheese sticks.” Instead, it was actually cheese, freshly breaded, and fried to a golden brown served with a nice marinara sauce. My only complaint would be serving it with cold marinara. Why do restaurants do this? Cheesecake Factory are certainly not the only ones doing it.
For entrees we had the Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken, the Bacon, Bacon Burger with Fries and a cup of New England Clam Chowder. All delicious!
And what’s a trip to the Cheesecake Factory without getting some actual cheesecake, right? On this visit we ordered up the Red Velvet Cheesecake and the Reece’s Peanut Butter Cup Cheesecake. There were 3 of us. Even after giving it our best efforts we needed a box to take some home. Absolutely delicious, as usual, but so rich. A few bites is all we could really handle.
The last thing I will mention is the service. As with the food, I’ve never had bad service at a Cheesecake Factory and my visit to the KCMO location was no different. From the host, to the seater, to my server, and anyone else who came to the table, they were all amazing. Big kudos to them!
All and all another great visit to the...
