Vye Cocktail Lounge — Restaurant in Kansas City

This place deserves five stars for the service and cocktail taste alone. But I can’t give it that because of the cigar smokers. If you have a smoke allergy like I do, then go somewhere else. These guys feel entitled to ruin a high end and gorgeous location with their desire to smoke cigars on the rooftop deck.

Came in on a Friday night to check it out from the reviews and desire for a good cocktail. The man checking ids was spot on and wonderful - told us to get drinks on the main floor and put them into plastic glasses to go upstairs. This is the secret folks. And he was right!! Main floor bartender was spectacular and amazing. We talked high end cocktail slang and traded some secrets.

Once we got our drinks we headed to the rooftop. This is the best location and WHY YOU MUST GO!! It’s gorgeous - get there before 7 on the weekends to avoid the cover charge and crowds. Loved sitting outside and viewing the beauty of KC. It reminded me of being in San Diego and enjoying their famous rooftop decks.

Except for the two guys chain smoking cigars. It was so bad a family sitting next to them moved the minute another space became available. I’m allergic to smoke and had to stop drinking because I almost puked from the smell. Couldn’t do a second round so we left. Way to prevent patrons from the $15 a drink bar tab guys.

This place is an amazing cocktail bar for KC that has long been needed. It has three gorgeous spaces to hang out - the main bar with giant windows or the back room that is intimate and wonderful for small groups or the rooftop deck perfect in the fall and spring. But the invitation for open smoking in your space is wildly out of touch for todays customers and the clientele you might have a chance to appeal to. I hope the owners can take a moment to consider these policies because this can be a fabulous cocktail bar if you take it seriously as a business instead of making it your personal and pet project. I would give this Zero stars if possible. The WiFi was down, which I can understand can be a problem. The entire time at the place was unorganized and unfortunately it was a horrible experience for my wife. We had friends in town celebrating her birthday and this was by far the worst stop we had the entire weekend. I had made reservations for VIP and on the rooftop there was a table showing "reserved" at our time. The guy downstairs said our party of 5 could sit at the bar or sit in the mezzanine area that had no one or no music playing. It was a perfect night to be on the rooftop, which is why I booked it, so I said screw it and took everyone upstairs to the open table saying reserved. That's when the problems continued because the poor bartender was the only one working the rooftop. I went to the bar and said we could order drinks and take them back to the table. Not real VIP, but no problem. When I ordered my drink, it was awful, and made incorrectly. Then when I tried to keep a tab open she said she couldn't due to the Wifi but she could run my credit card to pay. This place doesn't know the meaning of customer service, and from some of the other reviews I'm not the only one experiencing this. Never intend to go back to this place, and I see the WiFi worked well enough for them to charge people's cards and send me an email asking for my experience. It's unfortunate because if the rooftop were more organized, it's in a good location and the DJ was the best part of our short stay there. My wife couldn't get her friends out of there fast enough. What's even funnier was the fact we saw two other groups that also visited VYE at our next stop and we literally connected over drinks cracking up over how bad our experiences were at VYE. We spent Saturday night with Reservations at Vye. Our expectations were high because of the reviews and the reservation process. Steven, the bar manager, was incredibly accommodating and kind. He provided excellent customer service from the moment I called to see if I could change my reservation, to making sure we had a pleasant experience on the rooftop or the downstairs lounge.
