This place already has almost 400 5 star reviews, so I feel almost silly adding yet another one, but they deserve it, so here I am! Went here based on a recommendation from the staff at Snorkel Alaska for a post dive brew and meal to warm up. The owner, Carl, is just awesome: warm and funny as hell to listen to as he warmly greets and chats with locals and visitors alike. The bartender was helpful and attentive as well. The beer is a good selection of local and out of town brews, and an insanely good deal at $3.50 for a a pint regardless if it's a coors light, a double IPA from a local brewery, or an elysian space dust (those go for like $9 bucks a pint around me!). I had an order of halibut and chips to wash down my beers with, and the fish was perfectly cooked, the fries well seasoned, and the tartar sauce clearly made on location. The vibe is both chill and homey. It reminded me of some of my favorite hole in the wall spots on the Northern Ca/Southern Oregon coast. I wish there were bars like this down in San diego.
Definitely stop by if you are...

My personal experience was a little different, as I wasn't there to drink or anything, but just to visit with family and stuff and what I like about it is that you can order food from the Burger Queen. Yes, apparently there is an arrangement, so get your food and bring it in, no problem. I think that is an excellent idea.
My only real complaint is that the joint does look a little tired and there is some kind of toilet leak in the men's bathroom, at least while I was there, but otherwise, if you are no frills and want the cheapest beer on-tap in Ketchikan, this is the place to go! No rowdy bunches either, just locals getting together to chitchat and pass the time while enjoying a cool and...
Read moreCarlos and crew are crushing it here! Don't let the name scare you, this is a friendly bunch of good people with kind hearts. I made the Asylum my local watering hole for my week long stay in Ketchikan and the charm of this place was not lost on me. I was greeted with a duck fart shot and lots of laughs and good conversations upon my arrival and wasn't ever really ready to leave.
Great beer selection at great prices in a fun-filled environment. The building is two stories with outdoor seating on both levels, great for those warmer summer days. Food is ordered from Burger Queen next door, don't sleep on that opportunity; great charbroiled burgers, awesome onion rings, and more friendly neighbors to support. 10/10...
