We were looking for an indian restaurant after a day of great snorkeling experience in keywest in the memorial day weekend. Found this after a bit of back and forth as the restaurant didn't have a restaurant like hoarding or welcome gate.
By the time we reached there it was pretty late and food was almost over. We were little disappointed and thought of coming back and then the owner said he would cook some food for us. It was pretty much one man show. The owner, the cook, the server, the waiter, the cashier and dealing with customer. We waited some time and finally got in.
We were surprised that a white guy preparing indian food and running a business out of it. With that bit of curiosity, got introduced to Phillip and started having conversation with him, . How he spent time in Delhi, how he learnt indian cooking from the family he lived with in india. Pretty interesting stories all of that can't be described in review.
Now the food. The chicken currys, the goat currys, the vegetable items in a normal indian restaurant are pretty much stereo-typed and they have specific set of spices that they use and there's not much difference from one restaurant to the other in terms of taste. Phillip prepares food they way we indians do at home. Very distinctive, no issues with your stomach and yet very tasty, and you don't get that elsewhere. Now we realized why the restaurant didn't look like one. It was almost 11.30 pm, had great conversation, great food and left the place with a very high enthusiasm of coming back.
Cons : The price apparently is at the higher side($20). But then he creates a distinctive value by preparing indian fresh home food. Also theres no other indian restaurant as such and not a lot of indians in keywest to support restaurants. So economic viability may ask...
Read moreWe frequent Key West and particularly this restaurant when we’re in town for breakfast ( the food is typically excellent), but this past week will definitely be our last. The female server has always provided poor service with longer than acceptable wait times to greet us, to offer a drink order etc when we do get drinks were limited to one given after the glass is emptied, they stay that way empty with no offers for refills etc. This past week it was not only oppressively hot as she let us sit for over 10 minutes with empty glasses as we dehydrated and she repeatedly did other things around us and seemingly intentionally ignored the fact that we were turning into dust. When I finally had to go try to get a refill myself ( since we obviously weren’t getting it any other way) she acted as if she were annoyed that we had the gall to ask for more water in the arctic 95 degree heat & said she’d bring it…. which we had to wait for her to take more orders & check out those around us instead of bringing the water pitcher with her. I never got the extra ice or the tea I ordered as she acted like I never spoke then rushed me ordering blowing me off in the midst of ordering and my husband never got a refill on his tea we asked for on 2 occasions we had the opportunity to ask. In addition, she charged full price for the crossiant vs the $2.00 up-charge stated on the menu and $3 for the veggies that were marked veggies $1.00. Overall we’re just done with her French attitude she gives us literally everytime we’ve been there. Honestly, if she’s that miserable in the states then maybe she shoukd take her attitude back where it’s acceptable to be jerks to paying customers. This past week sealed the deal for us ever patronizing the...
Read moreI’m not sure how this is possible. A week ago I had breakfast at Frenchies for the first time. I’ve lived in Key West for most of my life and Frenchies is located right around the corner from my house. My dog actually showed me the place because I would have otherwise missed it. I ordered a pretty basic breakfast that was very reasonably priced, actually cheaper than my normal breakfast stop. Hands down the BEST over medium egg I’ve ever had in my ENTIRE life thus far. While eating it I was in disbelief because how can you pin point something like the best egg you’ve ever had. It was not only the textbook definition of over medium but the egg itself was more flavorful than any other egg I’ve ever had. It was served to the table hot. Since then I’ve tried to recreate and prepare one just as good, no luck. I’m not sure how they prepared this over medium so perfect but I’m still reeling about it and it’s been at least a week since my trip to Frenchies. I’m probably going to need to abandon my efforts of making eggs at home. I’ll revisit to see if this was a fluke and I doubt I’ll be disappointed but I’d be surprised if it’s better than the first,...
