We chose to grace Mo's Restaurant during our honeymoon getaway to Key West, and I must say, it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. Tucked in the vibrant streets of Key West, Mo's is a haven for anyone looking to delve into authentic Haitian cuisine.
As we stepped into the restaurant on a tranquil Monday evening, the inviting atmosphere instantly caught our attention. The staff, particularly our server, were not only professional but extremely friendly and personable, making us feel right at home.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show - the food. We kicked off our culinary journey with a serving of fried plantains, a classic Haitian appetizer. The plantains were fried to perfection, a wonderful amalgamation of crispiness and flavor that set the bar high for the main course to come.
For the main course, we settled on the snapper fish, a decision we didn't regret. The portion was generous, to say the least, allowing both of us to share and still have some left to take away. The snapper was cooked to perfection, retaining a freshness that spoke volumes of the quality of ingredients Mo's uses. The melding of spices and textures was nothing short of a celebration of Haitian culinary excellence on a plate.
What added to the charm of the evening was the realization that the portions were large enough for us to share, and yet we had some delicious leftovers to enjoy later. This gesture of generosity in portion size echoed the warmth and welcoming nature we experienced throughout our visit.
In summary, Mo's Restaurant wasn't just a dining experience, but a delightful journey into the rich and vibrant world of Haitian cuisine. It stands as a testament to not only great food but exemplary service and a warm, inviting ambiance.
Whether you're on a romantic getaway or just in the mood for some soulful food, Mo's should be on your must-visit list when in Key West. We couldn't have asked for a better dining experience to add to our honeymoon memories. From the bottom of our hearts, we recommend Mo's to everyone looking to enrich their palate with authentic Haitian flavors coupled with heartwarming...
Read moreIf you haven't tried Mo's on Key West, you are missing out on the best food on the island! We have been to many other high end as well as casual restaurants, but nothing beats this. The chef has a natural gift and sense for flavors! The flavors were layered perfectly, everything was perfectly seasoned and the chef has a true home style talent. We had the fried plantains, chicken and rice with stewed black beans and the goat with rice and kidney beans. We also had key lime pie and pumpkin pie. Everything came with the most amazing tomato sauce that was so incredibly flavorful; I could taste all the peppers and herbs that went into it. The plantains were smashed and fried perfectly; golden outside, soft inside. The rice and beans were the perfect texture and so savory. The stewed black beans were so creamy and different than any I've had; I almost wonder if they were made with coconut milk. Everything had a unique ingredient that just popped and made it extra delicious. The pies were definitely home made, just like everything else!!! I don't typically enjoy sweets, but we managed to finish both pieces. The place had a warm ambiance and the coolest paintings. It simultaneously had those beautiful paintings while being casual, comfortable and laid back. Zero pretentiousness.
After home made food, you always feel comfort and satisfaction, and this is how we felt there tonight after this most amazing meal. LOVED it. We will be returning. If you're a food lover and enjoy soul food and homemade food that is very flavorful, you...

I discovered a restaurant in Key West that I will NOT return to - "Mo's Restaurant".
"Mo's" is 1 step below bad service - NO service.
I was greeted with a confused look. I asked "Do I order, then sit?". The reply was an abrupt "sit anywhere".
No casual greetings, or suggestions when they came to table for my order, just a stare like I was holding them up.
Nobody even returned to my table once I gave my order, other than to deliver my food and mumbled something, as he was walking away. I thought he was coming back with something he forgot to bring - I was wrong, nobody ever returned.
A young guy surprised me when he brought the credit card machine to my table ready to pay. I told him I wanted to try some Key Lime Pie. Then came the bill machine again, before the pie.
On a side subject, the wine glasses hanging for customers' wine are totally foggy. Not sure when the last time they saw soap & water.
The staff has no personality at all, or professionalism.
Another point, I don't know if I dislike like Key Lime pie or I don't like theirs (my 1st was today). It was a thick texture, kinda pasty, and very thin. If that is the way Key Lime pie is, I do 't like Key Lime pie.
My seafood casserole was all pasta topped with cheese. The only clue of seafood were tiny chunks in my dish that appeared to be chicken (& very little of it)
My casserole was very hot - I will give them that.
"Run-A-Way Bill" was here! ... but won't...
