An elegantly simple terrrific pie!
The sauce was robust and substantial with nice chunks of tomato and the toppings were high quality and diced for good distribution and overall flavor (as opposed to huge chunks of veggies you get with nationwide chains). There was a unique cheese blend which contributed to a signature flavor and a terrific presentation, all gooey, melty and aromatic. But the real star of the show was the sourdough crust. The sharpness of the dourdough mixes with the savory acidity of the sauce which blends surprisingly well with oil of the cheese and brightness of the fresh diced veggies. They gave me a cheese cup on the side which sat unopened as I enjoyed the unmolested goodness of my crust bites with their residual sauce.
This was my first sourdough pie, and it won’t be my last. In addition to a terrific product, the atmosphere was super chill. I was greeted enthusiastically as I walked in the door, and a B3 organ could be heard jamming out of the loudspeakers which forced my muscles to bop along with the 12 bar improvisation.
I think it’s super cool they have a vegan menu. While not vegan myself, I am lacto-ovo pescatarian and appreciate when a restaurant here in small town midwest caters to those of us with more conscious diets. I literally can’t find a Tofurky roast even at the Whole Foods in Indy, but Stony’s is mindful enough to include a vegan menu.
I can’t recommend it...
Read moreI love pizza but my husband doesn't, full stop (what a weirdo, right?!). We've tried ordering from all the usual places in town and he's been, "eh, whatever" about all of them until now.
We found the Stoney's doorknob flyer a month or so ago (yes, they work on some of us, lol) and decided to give them a try.
When we received our first delivery he opened up the lid and contemplated the offering (it was a meat lover's). He reached in and plucked a piece of meat off the pizza and seemed to appreciate it. Then he reached down and pulled up a full slice (what!?!) and gobbled it down. Then another. "This is really good," he said. Me = flabbergasted. "I could order more from them," he said. Me = doing a dance of joy.
Stoney's has been our go-to pizza place for the past couple months and it's always hot, fresh, and amaaaazing. The toppings are great, the sauces are great, but mostly ... that crust (and breadsticks and bread bites). Sourdough. So good. It warms up well (if you've got leftovers) and we eat every bite.
As a bonus, the extra toppings and substitutions aren't bank-breaking (the subs are free!) and have always been liberal.
We really appreciate and love you guys
Read moreStoney's I generally pretty good, had been my go to spot in Kokomo. However unfortunately they don’t seem to make a consistent product. Sourdough pizza requires time for fermentation to develop flavor and sometimes the crust has great taste others it’s just bland. I suspect they’re not consistent with this method and hence the variance I notice when I get it. However i wouldn’t consider this a show stopper the pizza is still decent. I recently ordered a Sicilian which had no rise completely under proofed dough more consistent with a grandma style as it was served. This again is a lack of consistency on their part. Pickle pizza was good unique fun combo of flavors.
Despite this Stoney's was my go to however don’t think I can get it any more. On my last order there was mix of rancid cheese and I just can’t manage to want to get it again after that. So hence the 3 stars.
Guys in there are nice people place is clean probably didn’t realize there was bad cheese in the mix I won’t hold it against them but I won’t be getting it anymore.
Edit: Owner Reached out explaining situation and refunded without me asking. Appreciate this gesture will give them another chance...
