Stopped in for breakfast with the family (5 adults and 2 very small children). The placed was packed but we were seated right away. I love the 50's malt shop atmosphere but was very disappointed with a few things. They do not accept debit or credit cards but they have an atm which charges a $3 fee so you can pay with cash. One other major thing I couldn't believe was the forced tip. When our server brought our checks she said "oh and the tip is automatically included for parties of 6 or more so it's already been added in". Wow, just wow. I have been to places where they include gratuity for large parties (meaning 10+ or 15+ people) but for 7 of us? 2 of which are in highchairs? That is something that should be posted somewhere or you should tell people when they are seated- not when the check is given so we had no choice in the matter. Since she knew she was already getting a certain amount for a tip, maybe that's why she didn't care too much about giving good service? We had to wait a long time for our food which was not pleasant as our 2 small children were really hungry and getting cranky because it was taking so long. My dad ordered steak & eggs and the steak was the most disgusting color of gray and no flavor whatsoever. It was the color as if it was boiled. It was pink inside so at least it had that going for it anyway. My grown kids had pancakes & french toast with strawberries & cream on top and they both liked it a lot. My caramel pecan roll was very good as well. My husband said his veggie omelet was ok. We had to wait a long time for our server to come back so we could ask for our checks and takeout boxes which made us late for other plans. With as many places there are to eat in the area, we will not be going back...
Read moreWhere do I start. So the place is a cool little diner. All sorts of 80's memorabilia. That's where it ends. They do not accept cards at all. Cash or checks only. The food was very mid at best and disappointing for the cost. We spent about 54 before tip. I had the 2 egg breakfast with 2 eggs, 3 pieces of bacon and toast for $10.99. Eggs were extremely bland. I forgot to ask for my bacon soft, so I ordered a side order. I gave my bacon to my wife, who ordered the biscuits and gravy. The cook understood the assignment with the soft bacon! That was pretty good and was about $7. My son ordered the bacon omelet, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Which I believe was about $11. My other son had the 1 egg kids meal, which was about $8.75. No complaints there. The biggest disappointment was these so calles "Famous Cinnamon Rolls." They were out of the Caramel Apples ones, and thats cool. I understand that. It happens. Can't get a pecan roll because I'm allergic. So she says, "How about a cinnamon roll?" I am really thinking where are they because I am confused because she is pointing at them. I'm all about uniqueness with foods, so I didn't judge. I get one to go. I eat it a bit later, and when I say I was disappointed, it is an understatement. As I write this, I am still looking for the cinnamon. It was like a loaf of bread sprinkled with some cinnamon. The icing made it a bit tolerable, but not much. I didn't finish it. Very thick and doughy with zero flavor. All in all, I wouldn't come back if we came back...
Read moreI teetered on writing a review or not on a local dining spot but decided my thoughts should be shared. Disclaimer: I am not a local and had one experience at this restaurant for breakfast on a Tuesday morning. Also of note, this is not a Denny’s chain restaurant. This is a local diner. My husband and I visited for an early breakfast on a Tuesday morning to end our trip to the Dells. We were seated promptly, but that is where anything promptly ends. I would not say it was overly busy at the time of our visit, but perhaps they were experiencing short staffing. Our waitress was hardly present. Once she took out very simple breakfast order, we waited nearly 40 minutes to be served. For a simple breakfast, that is way too long to wait. Once we got our food, the toast was burnt black on one side – I’m surprised they served it to be honest. The food was subpar. We paid about $20 per person. Another item of note, this restaurant only takes cash. There is an ATM near the cashier’s desk. One thing that I did enjoy was the cinnamon roll; however, I do feel it could have been warmer when it was served. The décor is nostalgic and a bit overdone / busy for my tastes. Almost to the point of being distracting. I have been to the Dells several times over the years, and I have heard good things about this restaurant which is why we stopped in the first place. Though some may have positive experiences, this is one Denny’s in the Dells I will...
