As out-of-town visitors, particularly as older guests, we were absolutely delighted by our experience at this lovely theater, and a significant part of that joy came from meeting Sierra, the wonderful box office attendant! From the moment we approached the box office, Sierra greeted us with a warm and friendly smile that instantly made us feel welcome and at ease.
Sierra was incredibly knowledgeable about the various shows on offer, especially “Sneaky Pete’s.” She took the time to explain the story behind the show, which is based on the mostly true legend of how the Dells became the Dells. Her passion for the local history really shone through, and it was fascinating to learn about the roots of the story we were about to enjoy. It was refreshing to see someone so enthusiastic about their job!
When we asked about the upcoming Christmas series, Sierra assured us that it would be “bigger and better than last year.” She described the festive atmosphere and the delightful performances we could expect, making it sound like an event we simply couldn’t miss. Her excitement was contagious, and we found ourselves eagerly looking forward to returning for the holiday season!
Sierra also shared her insights about the concert series, and we were thrilled to hear about the upcoming Def Leppard tribute concert. Her detailed knowledge about the acts scheduled to perform made us feel like we were in for a real treat. It was wonderful to hear her recommendations and feel assured that we would be experiencing some fantastic performances.
One of the highlights of our interaction with Sierra was her expertise regarding the theater’s menu options. She patiently answered every single question my party had about the food and drink offerings, from savory appetizers to sweet desserts. Her thoughtful suggestions made us feel confident about our choices, and we left knowing we would have a delightful dining experience to accompany the show.
When it came time to choose our seats, Sierra went above and beyond to ensure we found the perfect spots. She recommended amazing seats that offered fantastic views of the stage, making it easy for us to fully immerse ourselves in the performance. We truly appreciated her attentiveness and care in helping us have the best experience possible.
After the show, Sierra made a point to check in on us to see if we enjoyed the performance, which added a personal touch to our visit. It was evident that she genuinely cares about her patrons, and her warm demeanor made our experience even more enjoyable.
As we left the theater, we couldn't help but express our gratitude to Sierra for making our visit so special. We are already looking forward to returning for the Christmas series, and we sincerely hope that Sierra will be there to assist us again. She was, without a doubt, our favorite employee to meet during our visit!
If you're visiting this theater, especially if you're an older guest like us, we highly recommend stopping by and saying hello to Sierra at the box office. Her extensive knowledge, enthusiasm, and dedication to providing an exceptional experience make her a true gem! We can't wait for...
Read moreI rarely leave reviews publicly. It usually takes a very poor or very over the top experience for me to make the effort to inform the public about something. This would be the latter, an exquisite night out for a great dinner and show!
From the outset I though we were in for a chincy show that my kids might have some fun with. The over the top signage, poor marketing materials and "make eating fun" taglines dropped my already low expectations. I was expecting another cash grab in a tourist destination town. Boy, was I wrong.
When you first enter the theatre, you see how large and well put together it is. It is a beautiful venue with high ceilings and not a bad seat in the house. The old style stage offers great views from all locations and the decor is straight out of 1800 vaudeville.
Pre-show there were some small acts on stage with some very talented individuals. Fiddles, upright bass and magic shows had us entertained while we ate our fried chicken, mashed potatoes, beans and mac and cheese. The food was good for what we were expecting, but that was not the highlight of the night.
Show time! Again, we were expecting a chincy show without much heart. This show absolutely blew us away. My wife and I see a lot of shows and are local donors to our large university theatre. We can see quality when it presents itself, and this was very much quality. The costuming, sets, audio balance, props, wardrobe changes and most of all, commitment by the characters was second to none. An absolute treat of theatre. We never expected such a strong performance from an area known for it's tourist appeal. Every single one of the characters absolutely delivered and they should be damn proud of the show they are putting on. There were even a few moments where the actors broke character, but it added so much to the show (the main bad guy shot at a window to break it but the timing was off by about 5 seconds on the glass shatter causing the main actress to break). This was absolutely hilarious and completely within the vibe of the Vaudeville style. They should consider adding this to the show!
All in all, we would absolutely go again. We originally scoffed at the price tag of 50/person, but quickly realized our money was well worth it.
Do yourselves a favor and check the show out. It is easy to pass over it due to the look of the marketing and outside of the theatre, but don't judge this book by the cover. It will be a night you'll talk about for...
Read moreThere are signs and brochures for this attraction in every corner of Dells advertisements. The food was very good (some a bit cold)- though it is all you can eat, our server never seemed quite certain if she could (or should) bring more food or not. That being said, the hour leading up to the show was a large commercial for other Dells attractions by the man on the microphone, with constant pressure to sign up for their emails so you could win a whopping $25.00. They said the show would last one hour and begin at 7:30 PM, and we could expect the place to fill up. It didn't- Not even half of the way. I am glad the food was mostly good, because the show was a total flop. The plot had so many weird angles and I never quite knew what was going on - and at least three times during the performance (just in the first act), the actors broke character and got the giggles and could not stop. Once was warranted; then it just got silly and stupid. The acting was subpar and when 8:30 hit the clock , it was a call to intermission (so they could open the vendors- bar and flimsy plastic toys). They told us we should tip our server $7.00 per person. We did (even more than that), but I wonder how much those workers are paid if they have to tell people how much to tip. It felt more like a mandate than a friendly suggestion. We got up at intermission and noticed many others filing out of the theater to their cars- Enough of that bizarre performance for them, and so we joined the ranks and headed back to our hotel. I'm torn because I really wanted to like this place and I think has great potential for a fun family dining experience. I think the show needs re-written (also, using slide screens to show what was happening off-stage with a horrible cartoon-ish dog mauling Sneaky Pete was so bad- the animation left so much to be desired), and completely re-cast with more talented actors. That being said, in Act 1, Sneaky Pete and the Sheriff both suffered the same fate... But, Sneaky Pete survived without any explanation and we never heard from the first sheriff again. Just one of the confusing plot pieces. I'm normally not such a grouchy curmudgeon about these sorts of attractions, but the cost and the constant pitches for neighboring businesses, coupled with the poorly written show executed by sub-par actors left me feeling like it...
