Overall: 4.6/5 (dine in)
Fat Choy is located inside Eureka Casino near the front entrance. The staff is very nice and act like they're a family. The older man really cares about building a relationship with all his patrons. The place itself looks like an old moody diner. The lighting is very warm so it's not that great for pictures but the food is great. I came on a Monday at 2 PM so it was pretty empty but a bunch of people started showing up as I dined. My food came out in ~10 minutes and was nicely presented. I really wanted to try their pork belly bao benedicts but they only serve it during breakfast which ends at 11 AM.
Pork Belly Baos ($11 for 2): I read the Yelp reviews and it looks like they're known for the pork belly baos so I decided to try this in lieu of the pork belly bao benedicts. It did not disappoint and was my favorite item of the meal. The pork belly was thick, juicy, flavorful, and the right amount of meat:fat ratio. The bao was warm & soft. They were generous on the garlic topping which gave a nice crunch and added flavor. My only gripe was that they didn't put enough pickled mustard greens. That acidity would have balanced out the bao for sure. I would also recommend putting the green onions inside the baos so they can be eaten together.
Fat Choy Combo Plate ($17): This plate comes with 3 types of meat - grilled chicken, kalbi, & slow roasted pork belly. The grilled chicken was pretty dry, even with the sauce drenched on top. This pork belly was drier than the one used in the bao but it was better than the chicken. The kalbi was the best of the 3 since it wasn't dry and had good flavors. The salad didn't have any dressing and some of the pieces were bad so I had to take those out. I put some Sriracha on top as my sauce or dunked it in the meat sauce. The white rice was also a bit dry so mix it well in the sauce. The macaroni salad was my favorite and...
Read moreI saw this place on Guy Ferreri's show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" so decided to give it a try our last day in Vegas. One great thing about Fat Choy is that it's almost never closed. It was opened until 10PM on New Year's Eve!!! It's a 10-min walk from the last stop of the Monorail (SLS stop).
Our waitress was helpful and gave us some food suggestions. There was also a good selection of alcoholic drinks (it's in a Casino duh!!) The pork belly bao was pretty good , tender meat (fatty but that's how I like it) with good flavor. First thing I noticed was that there was no ground peanuts (stated on the menu and in the show). And things went even more downhill from there because the other dish were so disappointing. We wanted the duck fried rice but they were out, so we ordered the mushroom noodle with Chinese sausage and a fried egg instead. The noodle was drenched in this super sweet sauce. I know I'm eating Americanized Chinese food but still I can see how people can enjoy this sweet sauce with little flavor. We also got the grilled cheese with short ribs. It came with a lot of shredded beef, but I didn't taste the onion jam (which the waitress informed me was mixed in with the short ribs) and the flavorful was just not there.
I hope my experience was just an exception because it was the last day of the year and perhaps people who were working just wanted to go home early. But based on my experience I would not recommend this place to anyone and would not go back...
Read moreThe restaurant is behind and a little away from the strip in what felt like a converted bowling alley to a casino restaurant. It is small and when we went on a Sunday at lunch time it was almost empty. I ordered wings, pork belly bao bums, and the big pig sandwich. Only reason we went there was because of triple D recommendation.
Wings were very disappointing. Just plain hot wings, wings and sauce, no garish, nothing like the photos.
Bao buns were good tasting but they were light on the belly, again not like the photos they show on the screen in the restaurant.
The big pig came as advertised with bacon two pieces, pork belly two pieces, sausage half of one, cut in half, and an egg on grilled toast, With fries because they ran out of roast potatoes. Now, the bacon was fine, thick cut, not too salty. The pork belly was tender, but since they didn't put anything on it, it was bland. The sausage was just boring plain breakfast sausage not very flavorful either. The egg was an egg cooked hard, no runny yoke. The bread was OK, just a little greasy for me. The fries were shoe string, which I like, but I ordered them extra crispy and I got then extra soggy disappointing.
Our table neighbors seemed to fair better with their food. But the breakfast burrito...
