If you think HHC won me over because they started making their own ranch, you're probably right.
Nestled within the Shops at Traverse Mountain, this HHC location is the OG Utah location and it's apparent. They have arguably nailed down the business better than some of the spots in Vegas. There were some kinks in 2023 before the acquisition and while they were still getting their groove, but it has become quite a Lehi local favorite.
In recent months, they have started launching a special flavor of the month. I think this is a great way to keep things exciting, while still serving up the same delicious product we know and love. In June, it was the lemon pepper flavor. I absolutely love lemon so I was excited to try it. Whether it was a bad day, or just not my thing, I am not sure...but I was not a fan. The lemon tasted bitter and it was sour like a warhead, rather than giving a savory, lemon taste. For the month of July, the flavor of the month was buffalo. I am also a big fan of buffalo so I decided to give this flavor a go. They knew what they were doing with the buffalo sauce and I would love to see it permanently on the menu. It has been delicious every single time--I have went back just for the buffalo flavor quite a few times now.
What makes the Traverse location stand out is the care they put into the products they are serving. My order is always packed perfectly and they always give a side of ranch and house sauce without me even asking. They also put the buffalo flavor in a separate box from the rest of the meal, which makes the world of a difference, considering it is a wet sauce. They are always quick and whenever I have had the smallest requests or issues, their customer service and resolution is 10/10.
Some people say that they are a bit on the pricey side but I really don't see it. This is one of the most reasonably priced meals I can think of, ESPECIALLY for the quality of the items. Another thing to note is that they have an incredibly generous rewards program and incentives to cut the cost of your order. I have received offers for free drinks and even free meals, which I don't see a lot of other places offering.
I love their waffles almost as much as one of my friends does. However, I would love to see a wider array of quality dessert options. I am not a fan of the pucks and there is a unanimous opinion between me and all my comrades that they are basically flavored drywall cut into circles. I hope to see churro fries or funnel fries on the menu in the near future.👀 In-house brownies or skillet cookies would be awesome too.
Pretty much everyone in Vegas loves HHC but Utah locals are still on the fence, with the chicken restaurants in an upward trend. From my perspective, I think HHC is doing an awesome job at standing out from others and offering products that make you coming back for more. Everyone in the store has always been pleasant. The restaurant itself provides value and generous portions. Their ranch is great, but could use a bit more herbs and spices. Nevertheless, I do appreciate them finally breaking up with Ken and creating their own delicious sauce. The house sauce is also amazing, and I love that it is exclusive to HHC. I have visited plenty of other locations, and I can say with confidence that the Traverse Mountain...
Read moreHouston TX Hot Chicken is an absolute gem, proving that a fantastic restaurant can be found in the most unassuming of places. Tucked away in a great shopping plaza, this hot chicken joint immediately impresses with its stunning interior. Stepping inside, you're transported from the everyday strip mall to a vibrant, stylish space. The decor is gorgeous, featuring a modern and edgy design with bold pop art murals that give the place a unique and exciting atmosphere. I wish I had more time to capture all the artistic details, but I was so focused on one particular mural that was a true work of art. The star of the show is, without a doubt, their cheesy hot chicken sandwich. The combination of crispy, spicy chicken, a fresh brioche bun, and a rich, house-made cheese sauce is pure perfection. It's a symphony of flavors and textures that leaves you craving another bite the moment you finish. But the deliciousness doesn't stop there. The waffles are nothing short of phenomenal—sweet, crispy, and the perfect complement to the savory chicken. The blend of sweet and savory is a true delight, showcasing the culinary creativity of the restaurant. Beyond the incredible food and beautiful space, the customer service is excellent. Read moreHaving lived in the south I was bamboozled into trying this place due to the name without doing my research - but that’s just the beginning of this rabbit hole we’re about to go down.
After checking to make sure this wasn’t a ghost kitchen (as far as my research went initially), I eagerly ordered as I’ve been craving good chicken since leaving Texas. Good chicken, this is not.
My Uber eats order arrived within twenty five minutes of order (shoutout to my awesome dasher for making it happen.) My grubby massive hands couldn’t open the boxes of food I ordered fast enough. Boxes were warm, amazing sign and when I opened the box I expected to smell good food - well that didn’t happen. My nirvana immediately turned into the destruction of sodom and Gomorrah.
I ordered varying levels of spice and the overwhelming flavor profile here is salt and sugar. Not much else going on despite having one of these sandwiches blasted with hot Cheetos coating too. The fries were sad and limp like my ex while managing to be somehow even saltier than he. The waffle ordered is super sweet and the coleslaw tasted like a soupy gymsock, don’t ask me how I know what that tastes like.
I’ve seen the owner comment here about how they use quality ingredients and how they serve large portions. This doesn’t mean anything if a chicken is cooked to the point where it’s rubbery and the breading is begging to be out out of its overfried misery.
Moving onto the actual business. I did some research after this and based on my alleged findings, the owners are venture capitalist car bros trying to make a quick buck while having no affiliation with Houston, any culinary background and no claim to this being actual Houston hot chicken. One of the owners is named Houston but they definitely knew what they were doing when they named this place as southern hot chicken is trendy right now.
You deserve better, Utah deserves… well probably this.
I’ll continue to long for a good...
