I was here the other day for dinner (party of 4), and I was not impressed with the place at all.
PLACE 2 stars: The restaurant is conveniently located on Bryn Mawr and River Road in Rosemont. There is ample and free parking for patrons. The place looks very much upscale and pleasant. Upon entry, you encounter a huge bar area. The dining area is located in the basement, and it is also very pleasant. However, the tables are very small and too close to each other. There’s barely room for plates, and while eating, my friends left and right were invading my area. Bigger tables would be nice for patrons, but that means less people and less money for them. For the price I pay, there should not be a compromise here, though. Also, the dining room is very noisy, there is no ambient music, and the art on the walls is dull and uninspiring. Finally, the bathroom was very disappointing. I felt like I was in an airport bathroom, and there was no paper to dry your hands with.
SERVICE 2 stars: Upon entrance to the restaurant, you encounter the bar. There was no one to greet you. I joined my friends at the bar for a cocktail, and it took about five minutes for me to get noticed and greeted. I ordered a cocktail (Paloma Rosa $18) that also took too long to arrive. There were only three patrons at the bar at the time, so it was not particularly busy. The cocktail was not prepared in front of me, and it was nothing special. After finishing our cocktails, we headed downstairs, and there was a line and no one to greet us. We waited a while, and finally someone showed up and showed us our table (we had a reservation). The waiter showed up quickly, and we were offered drinks. After a reasonable time, the waiter came back to take our order. He did not take our wine order because they have a sommelier. The sommelier took a very long time to show up. My partner asked him about two red wines, and he recommended one without even asking us what we were having for dinner. Three of us were having meat, but one had fish, so no wine for him. I’m wondering why there is a sommelier.
FOOD 1 star: We shared some appetizers. The meat balls were very good. But the prosciutto with mozzarella was very disappointing. I ordered a prime New York Strip steak medium with blue cheese cream (upgrade you have to pay extra, despite the fact the steak was already $59). The steak came rare AND cold. The blue cheese was not abundant (it covered about 40% of the steak), and it was nothing special. I could not finish up the steak because it was too rare for me to chew, and the overall quality of the meat was not impressive at all. Be mindful this is a steakhouse, and for the price I paid, the steak was very disappointing. We also shared some sides: spinach cream, macaroni and cheese, and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were great, but the other two sides were just ok. A couple of us ordered desserts. I was leaning towards the ice cream, but after asking, I was told it was Haagen-Dazs, so I did not order. I chose the chocolate mouse and it was very creamy and well done, the best thing I ate at Morton’s for sure.
CONCLUSION 1.5 stars: For $750 (cocktails and dinner for four people), I was really expecting much more than this. I will...
Read moreIt had been a while since I had the opportunity to eat at a Morton’s Steakhouse so when I was most recent in Rosemont I was excited to go enjoy a great meal at Morton’s. Well, I couldn’t of more more disappointed with my experience. It all started when we checked in they told us to seat ourself and simply find a table. I found this highly irregular, but we walked through the restaurant and seated ourself at a high top table. After sitting there for 15 minutes a waited finally came over and asked us fir a drink order. Mind you, there were only about 50% of the tables full, it was not busy. We placed our order and received our drinks, then after finishing our drinks we waited this time over 20 minutes for our waiter to come back to our table, this time I mentioned his absence casually hoping he wails be mire attentive., we then ordered an appetizer and a few more drinks. The app and drinks finally came. Then he disappeared again after leaving the app with no plates. We are the app without plates. Again waiting almost 30 minutes our waiter finally came back for our dinner order, that was the last time I saw our waiter. Our food came out from the kitchen but we never did see our waiter the rest of the night. The evening was a disaster and extremely disappointing. The manger came by our table and asked how our meal was and we told him it was by far the worst dinner experience we have had in years. He offered to buy us a drink.,No thanks. We will never go back and make sure to let our friends know how disappointing our experience was. It ruined our night and set the tone for our evening. There are plenty of options for great steak in the Chicago area, I will never go back and I would suggest unless you want to be disappointed that you...
Read moreI have been to most of the Morton's through out the US. Mostly during the seventies to the nineties. It was my go to steak house for personal and business. To me they were the absolute best. They were then bought out and things began to change. After that I pretty much stopped going there. I recently was invited to the Rosemont location. We arrived early and were greeted by the hostess and went to the bar. Shawn was our bartender and had absolutely 0 personality and I felt like I was bothering him to make me a drink. One of our friends arrived and brought my wife flowers. I asked the hostess if she could put them in water while we dined. She walked around and looked rather confused. Then she asked our bartender to put them in some water. Eventually I saw them laying in a service area on top of a small table. They could have cared less. We then went down to dine. Our waitress was very nice. We ordered our food and I ordered a boneless ribeye. When it came to the table I thought I had received ribeye steak soup as it was smothered in Au Ju, The meat was soggy and had no crust to enjoy as you would on a well charred steak. I knew Morton's was not the same after being bought but was surprised how really bad they have become. Definitely one one of the worst steaks I have ever eaten. The sides were good and the Bleu Cheese dressing on the wedge was excellent but I came to eat a steak. The real saving grace was the Manager who was very nice and very personable. The manager saw our flowers laying on a service table and put them in a vase for us. I should have learned my lesson years ago but never dreamed they could have screwed up a...
