TLDR: dirty napkin with booger, lobster was rubbery, au gratin had raw potatoes, the mashed potatoes had plastic butter wrapper in it. We paid $222!
Probably one of the worst experience I’ve had no to mention extremely expensive!
Hostess and waitress were really nice! But unfortunately we will not be going back there.
First problem was the napkin. My partner discovered a crusty yellow thing that looked like a booger, we got a new one just fine.
I had the 11oz sirloin, and two sides: brussel sprouts and au gratin. My partner had the lobster and 6oz sirloin 3 course meal with mashed potatoes. First off the bat, every single thing was EXTREMELY oily. Far too much for everything but whatever, maybe we just ordered really greasy food. My au gratin could have been yummy except the potatoes were practically RAW. None were cooked all the way through, some more than others but honestly a lot of the potatoes were crunchy, drowned in the most oily cheese sauce I’ve ever had. The brussel sprouts were alright. Pretty mid, more soggy and oily than crispy like they were supposed to be. My partner’s lobster was over cooked and rubbery, not the worst but when you’re paying that much for food it better not taste like a tire! The mashed potatoes had a huge layer of butter on top but tasted pretty yummy. That was until we discovered part of a BUTTER wrapper in it. We found a piece of plastic, let the waitress know. We wanted to get some of the money back since we were not gonna eat it. She was apologetic and very sweet but said there wasn’t anything that could be done about the charge since it was part of a 3 course meal as a single cost but that she’ll see what she can do.
We got visited by the manager as well, and I’m pretty sure the owner of the restaurant. Later She came back with two glasses of champagne as a consolation. Even though the meal had SO many horrible components, I only wanted to complain about the butter wrapper because that’s tangible (raw potatoes and rubbery lobster seems like a he said she said situation like I didn’t want to be a Karen who was just tryna get a free meal!), at some point the waitress said “don’t worry, that guy got yelled at and you got free champagne!” I thought that was a weird thing to say but I think she meant well and thought that might be what we wanted to hear? Either way, after meeting the owner it wasn’t a surprise, he seemed a bit overbearing but I guess that’s not totally relevant. I just wanted to pay less for the food we had issue with, I didn’t want someone to be yelled at!
In spite of this horrible experience (it was my birthday) we tipped well of course, I dont blame our waiter or any of the other service workers. After this incident I wonder if the workers even get to keep their tips or if the owner takes some.
We were shocked that this place had such great reviews! Finding good food in downtown LB near the aquarium has been difficult. Living in a tourist trap means you’ll get fancy looking places with pretty bad or mid food. Definitely not worth it!
The final bill was $225, the steak was great! It was the ONLY good thing here. Not for that price, I’d rather make my own or go somewhere else. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody. Save your money...
Read moreHad an amazing experience at Ruth's Chris last night. Went with my wife and another couple for my wife's birthday and we were far from disappointed. Made a reservation for 7:00 pm and was seated pretty much right on time. The table was decorated with some birthday decor and the restaurant had provided a nice birthday card for my wife.
We each ordered a steak, two of the 11oz. filets and two of the 16 oz. ribeyes, as well as two orders of the garlic mashed potatoes and one order of the sweet potato casserole. We also all had a cocktail with my wife ordering a cocktail that the server and bar staff were happy to accommodate (even asking what kind of flavors and notes she would like and making a drink based on that).
Our wakt for the food was minimal and everything came out sizzling hot. The steaks came out a bit undercooked but that didn't even matter as they were so delicious. They were tender and flavorful, and we all wanted more after we were finished.
The sides were also great, with the mashed potatoes being smooth and buttery. They could have used more salt and garlic, but that may just be personal preference. The real breakout star, though, was the sweet potato casserole. It was unlike any sweet potato dish I've had before, with the right amount of sweet and buttery goodness. The pecan crust gave this dish an almost desert like quality to it. I would highly recommend this dish to anyone.
For desert, my wife and I ordered the creme brulee which was perfectly creamy and had a perfectly burnt sugar top. Our friends ordered the chocolate sin cake and said it was also delicious, with a nice, rich taste to it.
I would like to give a special shout out to our server Haley who was amazing and on top of everything for our entirebtime there, as well as Eduardo who helped her out with making sure our drinks were full and everything was going well with us.
Overall, this experience was above and beyond anything we could hope for and we will definitely...
Read moreWe visited Ruth Chris in Long Beach last night. I suggest valet as parking is difficult to find. Park at the valet on Ocean Blvd. just South of Pine St. The use of thr valet is $9.00, you pay when you come back out.
Ruth Chris is a short walk away just look for the two big ted doors. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. Our waiter was prompt and provided us with water and menu.
Our appetizers were Lobster bisque and shrimp stuffed mushrooms. The Bisque was served in a very large bowl with perhaps a cup and a half of Bisque. For the price of thr bisque vs the quantity it should had been more. Thr amou t of lobster was minimal.
The shrimp stuffed mushrooms weren't too bad pretty tasty.
My son ordered the Tomahawk Steak rarw and my girlfriend and I split a large 40 oz medium rare Porterhouse.
We also ordered mash potatoes and creamy spinage. The potatoes were pretty nice as was the creamed spinage.
Keep in mind everything is a la carte.
The Tomahawk was HUGE! So was the porterhouse, both were 40 oz.
The Tomahawk was great very tender and robust in flavor. The Porterhouse was also tender n juicy. We were satisfied with the quality of the steaks.
For dessert, we ordered Bread pudding served with whiskey sauce, it tasted great! We also ordered a flourless chocolate cake. The cake was rich and full of chocolate goodness. For you chocoholics its pure indulgence.
I had ordered horseradish and coffee. Our waiter forgot both. i reminded the waiter re the coffee, he apologized and promptly brought coffee. Overall the service was pretty good. The waiter was familiar with items on the menu.
While enroute an employee from Ruth Chris called and said they forgot to give me back my credit card. The next we had to drive back to Long Beach to get my card which was an annoyance. Apparently our waiter left the card on their table sfter...
