My first negative review on Google will be dedicated the restaurant that used to be my favorite place. After the day watching Seventeen’s concert, I suggested my friend go to Ahgassi because I had eaten here several times since high school, and the service there was always good. But this time it makes me extremely angry. Because of the collab with Seventeen, there were many customers, and each waiter had to serve several tables at the same time. The one who was serving us couldn't serve so many table at the same time, especially when cooking the barbecue, it is easy to overcook. All of our meats were grilled to black charcoals, and my friend asked for a sauce twice and had to wait for a long time before it was served. Since the Daechang (big intestines) we ordered were all burnt, I called the waiter and asked him if he could just delete that single dish, because apparently eating the burnt intestines will give anyone cancer. He said he would ask his manager to talk with me, and here came the most angry part. The white manager didn't show any sense of apologize. Instead, he argued that different people like different cooking levels. If someone likes it crispier, I can understand, but my large intestine was completely burnt and blackened. You can even wipe out large pieces of black charcoal from it. The manager's argumentative attitude made me very angry. I want to say that he should learn how to cook Korean barbecue before becoming a manager of a Korean barbecue restaurant, but this is no longer a question of whether he can cook Korean food. The cuisine of any country will not let others eat burnt food. I can understand that because of the collab with Seventeen, the restaurant may be very busy that day. If his attitude is better, I won't say anything, but he once again argued that it was not because of the busyness. If it was not because of the busyness, why couldn't the waiter control the time for each table to grill the meat, but instead burnt the meat for each table, and it took a long time to wait for a bowl of seasoning. The service was not like this when I came here before. The attitude of this manager made me feel so disappointed. There are many good restaurants in Koreantown. I will never and will not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant again. Just because there are a lot of idols go to your restaurant doesn’t mean you can lower your service and been so rude to your customers. I only took a photo of the burned beef because they took the burned Daechang away and I wouldn't have written this long review if the manager's...
Read moreThis is a popular spot for Asian/K-pop celebs (a la the photos of autographs adorning their walls). Entrance is in the corner- visible from the street but you have to round a corner in the parking lot to enter the restaurant (refer to photo). Got there around 8:30 pm on a Sunday night after KCON and we literally beat the rush in. Waited no more than 5 minutes and were seated right away. There is a QR code available outside and you can scan and study the menu. So we ordered right away as soon as we sat down. Douglas was our waiter and he was superb! Even when it got busy he made sure to check with us so we got the extra side dishes we wanted and refills on water.
We ordered the Aghassi Combo for 2. It was just the hubby and I and while I wanted to order the gopchang too, we were just too full with the combo. You really need to come with more people to eat more variety. I have had the gopchang before here and it is also good! Between the pork belly and pork jowl we went with the jowl and it did not disappoint! All the meat was of high quality, cooked to melt-in-your-mouth perfection! We also picked the soybean (daengjang) soup. Had a few clams in there and the rice cakes were the perfect consistency. I liked the saltiness of the soup. Warning the peppers in the soup are super spicy, but not noticeable with just the soup. We also ordered the steamed egg.
Side dishes were so good. The potatoes and the white (baek) kimchi were my favorites. I also loved the flavor of the dongchimi. My favorite of the meats was the Jowl- better than the brisket.
We got really lucky and found street parking (free metered spot because it was Sunday). However refer to the photos for the small driveway off of Harvard into the Harvard Plaza parking. There is only valet available in the lot for $4 if you pay cash and $5 if you pay card. The parking lot is one way so when you exit you will...
Read moreMy friends and I recently visited Ahgassi Gopchang, hoping to have a nice lunch together. Unfortunately, our experience was ruined by the poor service and disrespectful attitude from the host, Evette.
After waiting in line for 45 minutes, we decided to quickly grab drinks from a nearby coffee shop. When we returned to the restaurant, we were told that our table was ready but we only had five minutes to claim it. As we tried to enter, Evette informed us that we couldn't bring our drinks inside and suggested we throw them in the trash can.
When we asked if there was another place to store our drinks, Evette's response was rude and dismissive. She told us our only options were to throw away our drinks or give up our table. Her attitude made us feel like we were being scolded like children, leaving us feeling humiliated and confused.
After some discussion, we were finally allowed to store our drinks in our car, but the encounter with Evette left us feeling disrespected and upset. It's disappointing that she had other ways to handle the situation but chose the worst possible approach.
Even though we eventually got our table and were able to store our drinks in the car, we didn't receive any apology from Evette or the manager. It's frustrating that a simple request turned into such a humiliating experience. We just wanted to enjoy a nice lunch on a Saturda, but instead, we were made to feel embarrassed and poorly treated.
In conclusion, while the food at Ahgassi Gopchang may be good, the terrible service and disrespectful treatment we received make it hard to recommend this restaurant. Evette's behavior was unacceptable, and we hope the restaurant will improve their customer service...
