terrible.
came here for our 7 month anniversary and while that may not be a big celebration to some, it was very special and important to us. we had put on our open table reservation that it was in fact, our anniversary, and there was no acknowledgment. no "congrats," "happy anniversary," nothing.
we had arrived at the location at 654 pm for our reservation at 7 pm and the hosts were not welcoming at all. they seemed very tired and exhausted to be there. even worse though, was how we had to wait ten minutes for our server to even GREET us. why was it that we had to wait 10-15 minutes for water or even the menu? there were empty tables everywhere. there was no excuse. on top of that, our server had asked us if we had wanted bread and we said yes, only for two hours to go by with no sign of bread at all.
we had decided upon the tuna sashimi as well as the calamari for our appetizers. while the tuna was delicious, the calamari was so disappointing. the calamari was very clearly fried frozen with a drizzle of siracha mayo and sweet and sour on the side. truly pathetic and pitiful considering the price. for $21 dollars, i expected freshly hand-battered, lightly coated calamari much like rusty's peclian, another landry's establishment. but no. overpriced and second-rate.
after we had finished the appetizers, we were sitting for another ten minutes for the server to take our order for our entrees. we had ordered the 12 oz fillet, ribeye, and broccoli. the fillet was slightly over salted, but the broccoli was DEFINITELY over salted. not only that, but the broccoli was drowning in oil to the point where the united states no longer had to drill for it. absolutely a let down.
after our entrees, we had decided on the butter cake, espresso chocolate cake, and a english breakfast tea with cream and sugar. both of the cakes arrived with no issues, but there was absolutely no sign of sugar with the tea. the cream had arrived, but the sugar was nowhere to be found. as for the actual desserts, the butter cake was truly delicious. i understood why it was the main star on the dessert menu. the espresso chocolate cake, on the other hand, was a confusion. the menu had said it was a chocolate ESPRESSO cake. there was a whole lot of chocolate, but NO espresso.
a couple other issues that we had with the restaurant included the bathrooms and the singer. the bathrooms had no locks. the bathroom itself is very decadent, but why was there no locks on any of the doors? i do not want to be embarrassed in a restaurant where i am trying to enjoy my time.
speaking of, it was SO HARD to enjoy myself when the live singer's audio settings were so incredibly loud. i respect mastro's for hiring a live singer, but i don't understand why the live singer was singing pop songs at the top of their lungs. clearly mastro's is trying to reach an audience of sophistication and class (which could be explained by the interior design), but that is completely diminished when the music is not aligned. music is an extremely important part of atmosphere and the live singer did not fulfill it at all. the music was so loud that the walls were jiggling. it was so loud that even from the bathroom, with a CLOSED (no lock) DOOR, i could still hear the music audibly. i had told the server about the loudness of the music, and the server replied how they didn't want to hurt the musician's confidence. don't get me wrong here. the musician sounded terrific. they were hitting beyoncé notes like nobody's business. my problem is that when the music is so loud, i can't enjoy my dinner. how do you expect me to be able to hear someone who is two feet away from me without yelling, trying to hear each other over the music? absolutely no class.
i am speechless at the inadequate and unsatisfactory service...
Read moreWe recently celebrated my boyfriend's birthday at a restaurant, having traveled from out of town, and unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations. To be candid, I have encountered better service at Applebee's. The stars are food good and beautiful restaurant. I was particularly excited to visit this venue, as I had never been there before, though my boyfriend had enjoyed another location. Upon entering the beautifully designed restaurant, our anticipation was high. However, first impressions matter, and we were met with confusion at the host stand, where a male staff member—possibly the host or manager—did not acknowledge our arrival as he assisted another patron. The female host who was present guided the individual ahead of us to his table but seemed distracted, rolling her eyes in frustration when he did not promptly follow. This initial interaction was quite disheartening, setting a low expectation for the service to come. Eventually, we were seated in a lovely booth, and to our delight, the menu featured "Happy Birthday, Tyler!" which was a thoughtful touch. Our hopes were revived as we settled in. Initially, we were greeted in a timely manner, and our excitement remained. However, as the service progressed, it became apparent that our server was either rushed or disinterested in providing the necessary steps of service. We found ourselves repeatedly having to halt her from leaving our table. Despite our efforts to maintain a positive experience, she neglected to check on our satisfaction or refill our water glasses. Ultimately, we reached a point of frustration and decided it was time to leave. Unfortunately, our server was nowhere to be found, forcing me to approach the host stand to request our bill—an awkward situation for a venue of such caliber. Having worked in the fine dining industry for several years, both my partner and I are well aware of the standards of quality and service expected in such establishments. Regrettably, the effort demonstrated by our server was minimal at best. It's worth noting that a warm demeanor can often compensate for a lack of experience. While our server possessed the necessary skills, she fell short in delivering the fundamental aspect of human warmth. I rarely write negative reviews, but I felt compelled to share this experience in the hopes that no one else endures a similar situation, and that this server receives the training necessary to enhance her customer...
Read moreI went on the night of their grand opening & I didn’t expect to get a table, I was just gonna go to the bar with a friend. Luckily we got seated for dining.
The decor and setup is extravagant but classically done. What I noticed was it was very well staffed and the bathroom was impeccable with a server in there too.
I started off with the West coast oysters(great horse radish/red sauce, tasted very fresh, not too strong tasting & just right) & Bone marrow(not for everybody but if you know, you know. Excellent!) appetizer with permesaen salad(I didn’t eat the bread but it complimented the marrow very well).
For the entree I got the Bone in 22oz ribeye cooked in a medium. It was cooked perfectly and it was magnificently delicious. Lots of fat parts and it looked over cooked but it wasn’t, the flavor was bold and on point.
For a drink I got a Casamigos reposado tequila on the rocks. Huge thank you to my servers Latoya(a sweetheart), Hugo & the rest of the team. I highly recommend this spot as a DTLA tourist destination on a high budget and the bar area is pretty great. I’m definitely coming back for Adrienne for a wine tasting too!
Update Just tried the Justin Wine Isosceles and it was super smooth for a red wine. For appetizers I tried the Clam chowder(it was ok but too much potato pieces), Calamari(it was ok, not spectacular, Yardhouse is actually better), Wagyu Beef Roll(excellent taste), Lobster Roll(best tasting roll) & my buddy got a glass of the Remy Martin Paradiso(I had a sip and it was super smooth!). Thanks to JJ for the service!
Update Tried their Striped bass entree and I thought it was good but I’d recommend the other fish dishes instead. I also tried the lobster Mac & cheese and it was solid. For wine we tried the “Daou Reserve” red wine and it was excellent. It was very smooth and went well with our food overall.
update Tried their seafood tower & Chilean sea bass. The tower was excellent and the presentation was solid. The bass was delicious, very moist, tender &...
