A complete waste of $71.86. I went in with my family including 2 grandchildren who needed highchairs. We were treated as though we were not wanted, or at least the children and a disabled person were more then they wanted to accommodate. The service was slow, the server was well beyond retirement age, sluggish, shuffled around and barely spoke. The food was spit it out and throw it away horrible. For 6 of us we ordered a large pizza, lasagna, and half n half spaghetti and ravioli.
The lasagna was $15 for a 3x4 piece that was old and dry. It was like it was microwaved, cold and rubbery it tasted so bad I spit it back out. The $23 pizza was severely lacking in everything 1/3 of it had no toppings, cheese or sauce. The crust had 0 flavor was starch white making me wonder if they used bleached flour in it. The spaghetti and ravioli were bland but at least they did not taste so bad they had to be spit out. The portion size was incredibly small for $14. The highlight of the meal was the dinner rolls they serve when you are seated.
If you order the lemonade make sure you have a sweet tooth, its basically sugar water with a hint of lemon. Be prepared to drink enough to float away, its $3.50 for a soda the prices are not listed nor are the drink options.
I will say the ambiance is nice, the piano music was a nice touch but the decor is very cluttered to the point it is trashy/tacky looking. I suspect the low lighting it to cover up the dingy walls and decor. The bathroom door does not close, the faucets need to be replaced badly. You have to fiddle with them to get the water to turn off all the way. They do have a sign requesting that you do that for them to help conserve their water bill. The restrooms are clean, just in need of some basic repairs and updates. Like a changing table for those with small children.
The restrooms are upstairs, not handicap friendly. Not handicap welcoming. Not kid friendly. How they have remained in business since 1949 is anybody's guess.
My partner said that he was disturbed by how the kitchen staff kept watching every move we made. Maybe it was because I made it clear the food was horrible and not edible, maybe it is because we are a mixed race blended family, maybe it is just because they are rude and have no idea what good customer service is?
I did watch the other server in the place. She was very friendly with her customers and on top of everything. Bright friendly voice...

This was the "official restaurent" recommended from the Pantages' A Bronx Tale, so we expected at least a decent place. For starters it's a good 15 minutes walk from the theater through a shady part of Hollywood boulevard, and the restaurant is located a bit off the boulevard, so for safety reasons if you are doing a "dinner and a show" pairing, bad idea.
Now for the actual restaurant: It's tinier than expected, our table for two was small and shared the same bench seat as another table, so say goodbye to privacy. We could hear the other table's conversation easily and we felt "overcrowded" in an uncomfortable way. The ambiance is quaint with a few old wine bottles hanging out and a tacky painting of the Mona Lisa holding a pizza... We asked about the lack of entertainment for the hour and a half we were there and apparently, the piano lady and the singing waiters only start at 6:00pm (since we had a reservation at 4:00pm - show at 6:30pm) we definitely didn't have a single song.
Service was painfully slow by an old man that seem like they dragged out of an hospital bed. Polite fellow, but at 82, you should think of retirement... More on this later.
It's a restaurant so all this could be forgiven if the food was good right? Wrong... everything tasted bland and out of a microwave. The bread they serve tastes like flour (kinda like a bad biscuit), the cabernet sauvignon house wine at 9.00$ the glass is clearly boxed wine, the Miceli's pizza (their big seller they have been doing for decades) is akin to DiGornio frozen pizza with no flavors while the Aunt's lasagna (the other house specialty) is bland pasta, ground beef that has not been seasoned with anything (not even salt) and tomato puree that has no flavor... where's the cheese? No clue.
In the end, my wife ate a bit of the lasagna, of the "small" pizza which was actually a generously sized pizza (enough for two people easy), I only had half of ONE slice. So obviously if your not a SENILE waiter, you should at least ASK "You didn't like the pizza?" Nothing... He just asked if we wanted it boxed (it's a full un-eaten pizza after all). We boldly told him it was not necessary and he still didn't get the hint. When we left, I gave the pizza to a homeless person.
So 56$ DOWN THE DRAIN! Total disgrace of a restaurant.
At least the hobo...
Read moreI don't understand why this place has such good reviews?! This is the reason why we chose this for our dining experience. The dining room was cleaned full of charm There was no singing. No piano. No entertainment. Service was the bare minimum. Friday afternoon 2pm.
We were seated. The restaurant had diners at 2 tables. We waited 10 minutes for someone to bring us water and a basket of bread. Someone came to take our order 10 minutes after that. We decided on the pizza since the reviews said it was the best pizza they ever had and their menu even stated they were famous for pizza. We also ordered the appetizer sampler. Since we were not offered drinks we had to ask for drinks. While we waited we munched on the bread, which smelled good, but was very dense and filling. It tasted like a biscuit/French bread. Our appetizers arrived. The plate looked beautiful, the marinara dip was delicious. The calamari, cheese sticks, chicken strips weren't anything special and were obvious from a bag in the freezer shipped in by a distributor. We weren't impressed at $22.
At last our pizza arrived. The pizza was hot and adequately topped. We ordered the Micelis special. With sausage, pepperoni, onion, green pepper, mushrooms. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. The pepperoni tasted like Hormel. The crust was a bland, crispy, disk which tasted like a cafeteria pizza or kids pizza you would order at other restaurants. The sauce was sweet, and tasted nothing like the marinara that came with our appetizers. We were highly disappointed!
We were flat out bummed! $100 check for 4 people, and the food , and service were a huge let down. Perhaps it's the tourists that keep this place alive? We are what we call pizza conissours, and live for finding the best pizza. Miceli's has won the worst pizza we have ever had award. Perhaps their pastas are better? Altgough we won't be back...
