This location of Sidecar is close to the Grove, on Fairfax and Third in the same plaza as Trader Joe's and Mendocino Farms. It's smaller than the Santa Monica location, but the interior is definitely just as cozy with the same ambiance and delectable fresh donut scents that both Santa Monica and Costa Mesa bring.
There is a parking lot that allows for 1 hour free parking with validation. After that, you pay $2 for each 15 minutes. Without validation, I believe it's $4 for 15 minutes.
Right now, the store only allows 2 customers inside at a time. There's a waiting area outside and staff will let you know when you're able to enter the store. They also have a pick-up window to the other side of the store where they'll call out your name when your coffee/donut order is ready. And right when you're walking in, you'll be greeted to all the fresh donuts on display. They're constantly making more as the day goes by, so chances are most of the donuts are super fresh. Unfortunately they only offer limited Benedict donuts and to secure those, you have to come pretty early.
Donuts taste exactly the same as the other locations. Price is fair considering the quality, freshness, and taste as you bite into one of their donuts. Their seasonal items are always worth trying out, and I've found several favorites upon chance. This time I tried the Meyer lemon ($3.75) and the passion fruit pavlova ($4.75). Both were extremely unique, but my favorite was definitely the Meyer lemon. I had it fresh out of the oven and it honestly tasted like a super warm lemon pound cake with slightly acidic, yet slightly sweet lemon glaze drizzle and a lemon slice garnish on top. So amazing and my mouth is still watering as I think of that donut.
The passion fruit pavlova is definitely a looker - a raised bullseye donut that has a passion fruit glaze with passion fruit curd, vanilla whipped cream, meringue cookie crumbles, and passion fruit sauce. The passion fruit curd was too sour for my liking and I felt that it took away from the donut itself because of the acidity. Also, the donut was a bit on the drier side and didn't have that moist and soft bite that I normally get from Sidecar donuts.
And the favorites that are always consistent - love the Huckleberry and the Choc-A-Lot.
tl;dr - Definitely check out this location of Sidecar if you're in the LA area. Workers are super friendly and the overall atmosphere is...
Read moreShould I even be writing a review if I only tried their Vietnamese Coffee? Well, here I am...
I ordered lunch next door at mendocino farms and was craving coffee. Miraculously there was NO line at Sidecar (this was 2:33pm on a Saturday)! So I went in and decided to give their Vietnamese Coffee a try.
So how was the Vietnamese Coffee? It certaintly did not taste like a "normal" Vietnamese Coffee you would get at an asian restaurant/tea shop... to me it tasted more like a latte! I am lactose intolerant but I always make an exception for ice cream, boba, and Vietnamese Coffee... the staff member gave me the option of choosing whatever milk they had but I wanted mine as tasty as possible and she suggested their nonfat milk option which I opted for (I didn't tell her I was lactose intolerant and ofc I know what milks are not lactose okay)... and while the drink overall was not amazing, it ended up being OKAY!
I must confess that I am not really a donut fan... but their donuts did look BOMB. However, I just couldn't justify getting a $7 donut when this Vietnamese Coffee already cost $6... maybe next time I'll try and see what the hype is all about!
So.. if you're in the area and craving coffee, sure... give Sidecar a try! It did satisfy my craving and...
Read moreI love Sidecar donuts and have been coming here for years. For some reason I’ve experienced a decline when the customer service at this location. To clarify I am not saying each employee has horrible customer service at this location because some are outstanding everytime. When I do have a positive experience I leave a positive review. Today I received an email saying the Berry Parfait Donut was leaving soon so I went to go try it because I hadn’t tried it yet. My husband and I walk in, no one greeted us, and both employees stayed silent the whole entire time. Even when I asked for my donut he just grabbed it boxed it up and checked me out with out saying one word and looked extremely annoyed that he “had to help us” As you can tell in the photo the donut was not made right and was not made with of love, had no Berry flavor and taste dry and overcooked. The person that “helped” is said his name was Mario. I’m not sure if he was having a bad day or what? And the other gentleman working alongside Mario was no better, he had in both AirPods and didn’t acknowledge us at all. The whole visit this morning was very disappointing and was a rude and unforgettable experience. I may just start going to a different location because they just...
