Big Buck's Homemade Ice Cream — Restaurant in Manteo

It honestly is pretty great and 5-star worthy, but I took off a star because of the price and inconsistency of the "scooping." Over the summer, we've been to both the Manteo waterfront and Corolla locations a lot; probably a dozen times. We definitely will keep going back, but it is expensive. For two waffle cones, it's over $11 and that's before tipping, which I always do because the staff at both locations are always friendly. Last year, I had plain chocolate ice cream at the Corolla location and it was the creamiest, most delicious chocolate I've ever had...I even had others stealing bites. All of us have gotten it chocolate at both locations again later last year and this year and it just wasn't the same. I guess I got a wonderful fluke. Sometimes, one person's 2-scoops are pretty small whereas another person's 2-scoops are heaping and more worthy of the price. The ice cream is very good; I sometimes question just how "homemade" it is. Maybe it's homemade by a corporation somewhere, but either way, it's well above avaerage ice cream. We went yesterday and will likely go back today since we'll be in Manteo again. We love the Cake...

Icecream is good, not better nor worse than others, it's a small but comfortable spot to stop for a quick snack, but heed" bring plenty of cash, for it is expensive, a shake the size of a small size drink is with tax over $6 bucks, and though you dont need to, a tip is the norm. I had a small scoop of icecream with caramel, and even that was pretty costly. I know during the vacation season, vacationers will pay, but perhaps off season a discounted price ( for locals perhaps?) Or just lowering prices may bring in more business. I must admit, if the icecream didn't taste like what I could purchase at a grocery store, I may be more ok with the price, but it doesnt. And I say that not derogatory but honestly, the young staff are friendly but when I purchased 3 small icecream items, and it cost me over $25.00 before a tip, I'm more likely to not return. This place was absolutely awful. The worst customer service I have ever been associated with. This is Manteo and people are waking around town and people are everywhere and so many kids. We wanted ice cream so we stopped here and as soon as you walk in it smells weird. They didn’t have what my sister was looking for which was strawberry so she asked what are you looking for with an attitude then the baby picked up a stuffed animal and heaven forbid you touch anything in this store because according to the lady if you touch it you buy it. Don’t take kids in here or adults for that matter because my mom touched a bag of beach taffy and she was going to be charged as well. Needless to say we walked out. Will never step foot here again.
