So my friend and I decided to go out to lunch and we chose Razzos because I used to eat there a lot when I lived in Irving and haven't tried this location since I moved back to Mesquite so I was exited. We were greated and seated pretty quickly when we got there... our waitress Molly was very sweet but here is where the problems started happening... she had asked about drinks but we ordered water first to have before we ordered because we had been out running errands... that was brought out and we put our orders in for our food and then our drinks next...he had ordered a large draft beer and I ordered a margarita on the rocks half dressed...now Molly was busy but she seemed to pay more attention to a party going on in the front corner so she worked it pretty good because of the possibility of getting a good tip .. understandable but we suffered because of it... our food finally came out by another waitress and she went to get us catsup and salt and pepper...Molly came by and said that she was going to get our drinks and she ended up at that groups table again... my friend was getting upset because he wanted his cold beer to go with his hot food but that wasn't happening...we even noticed others getting a second and 3rd round but still nothing for us... my friend went to the bar and asked them about our drinks and was told that my margarita was ready but they had to wait for the waitress to pour it... my friend came back to the table and told me and said that my drink had a lot of water on top from the ice melting...we started eating and when she finally came back around my friend said to just cancel our drinks...now onto the food...we both ordered the fish and shrimp basket and I got the salad with Italian and he substituted his salad for gumbo... I ended up getting ranch for my salad instead of the Italian I ordered so I should of ordered red beans and rice instead of the salad I didn't eat... the fish (2 catfish strips) was really good and I'm not a catfish fan but it definitely didn't have a heavy catfish flavor and well seasoned... the shrimp (3 of them) the breading while had great flavor it was fried pretty hard... the hush puppies was crunchy on the outside but the inside had no flavor and tasted like a mushy bunch of cornmeal paste so we didn't eat them...he enjoyed his gumbo... I felt really bad because I don't like getting anyone in trouble but I was embarrassed and had to keep apologizing to my friend because I suggested Razzos since he wanted fish and I suggested that we eat there and it was his first time eating here and all this happens... very...

That being said, I spoke with a manager who was absolutely phenomenal and awesome, as were the other people that worked there, the food was delicious, everything was on point EXCEPT FOR OUR SERVER. No greeting, no hello my name is, just do you know what you want, we stop taking orders at 10:30. Not one smile.
I told her I was cold could we move somewhere warmer, she implied it's cold everywhere so it wouldn't make a difference. I ask was it possible if I could get extra grits, she replied, they probably put everything up by now, she wouldn't even check. She wouldn't put forth an effort on anything, all replies short and stale. I spoke with the manager, she went and came back with shrimp and grits and red beans and rice, she went above and beyond to make everything right.
Anything she brought us, she dropped it off on the table and left, never said is there anything else you need,we had to call her back and ask for things. She never came back by and said how's everything, nothing. My cousin asked for ketchup it look like she took a cup and dipped it down in a big container of ketchup because ketchup was all over it like a kindergartener had done it, dropped it down on the table and walked off.
She acted as if we were a bother to her, we were nice and polite as we always are. This is the first time in over maybe 30 years I didn't leave a tip, that's how bad the service and her attitude was. I really did appreciate the manager, she was a breath of fresh air. I was visiting from Kansas City Missouri and had heard only great things about this place. The manager made me want to return to the restaurant even after the service we received because she was so attentive to us.
I gave her my card, she came back with the receipt, left it on the table and walked off. She didn't say, have a good night, goodbye nothing, put the bill on the table and walked off. When exiting the restaurant, all the staff were like goodbye have a great night, it just seemed like a HER problem. She should not work with the public, or maybe it's just a certain people that she doesn't enjoy serving, either way I trust it will be...
Read moreFor anyone looking for cajun cuisine that’s both fun and delicious. My wife and I discovered this establishment looking for a new adventure in dining if you will. We are new to the Dallas Texas area and were searching for new experiences, one that we might not find back in Chicago. Razoo’s definitely fit the bill. Their menu options and descriptions have fun sounding names and I think it’s their way of trying to peak a customer’s curiosity. One such example is their “Rat Toes”. While one might hesitate at first solely based on the name, the name tugs at you until you read the description to find out that a Rat Toe is a Jalapeño stuffed with a sausage and cheese mixture. Staff was super friendly snd service was quick. The portion sizes were plentiful too. Warning: as intrigued as you may be to try all the appetizers, you may want to lay back on those a little. I say this because the main entrees are generously portioned and the food is rich. My wife and I made the mistake of indulging in the Canal Street Combo appetizer that consisted of Rat Toes, Fried Pickles and Boudin Balls We also ordered crab cakes, thinking that we’d be ok to finish our main entrees….nope, we ended up having to tap out about halfway thru the meal. I had the Cajun Steak with potatoes and cajun style green beans. My wife ordered the Shrimp Bruchette. Both were delicious, but as I said, we may have over indulged. Not exactly a bad problem to have. The restaurant itself was themed after an old fashioned blues club from back in 1930’s New Orleans. It was a charming look that I really enjoyed. Overall cost for everything we ordered was surprisingly on the affordable side. Our appetizers, entrees and drink were under $60 before gratuity. My personal grading system scores Razoo’s in Mesquite TX a 4.75 out of 5 stars. The only thing my wife and I found wrong was the Boudin Balls had an awkward flavor that neither of us cared for and that my wife’s shrimp was slightly...
