Today I had one of the worst experiences that I’ve ever at The Tavern at Oceanside. We ordered the steak and Eggs for breakfast for myself, a coffee for my husband, and a waffle for my daughter. I ordered over hard eggs and they were brought to me very runny; when I told the waiter, he told me the cooks don’t read the tickets and he offered to cook them over. At this point we had been waiting for our food from 8:15 to 8:40 am. I explained to him that we were in a hurry because we have to leave for my daughter’s game at the convention center at 9am. I kindly asked him to just take the eggs off my check. He told me he couldn’t do that, and proceeded to take the whole plate away from my table reaching over my face! Then, he grabbed my daughter’s plate who was in the middle of eating her waffles and almost hit her hand with the place. This server Marco should not be working in customer service. He also told me that there was no manager on site and that the manager allows him to act like that. Worst experience I’ve ever had at the beach! Will never come back and this place deserves ZERO stars. However, the hotel itself was nice and comfortable. The staff was great at check in/out. Furthermore, as you can see below. The hotel responded stating that the employee and manager (who never returned my call or text) nor was there…had a completely different version of the story. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting them to be truthful after the encounter we had. Truly a shame, the venue is pretty and it could have great success. However, not taking accountability for wrong doing is very detrimental to businesses. And for a man to be aggressively taking a plate from a female and an 11 year old girl is disgusting. Maybe they can use their onsite cameras to review what happened.

The worst service I have ever had. Walked “in” (outside seating) to be seated and after a couple minutes a waiter walks by and i asked if i was to seat myself. He had a confused look on his face and said he only had one table in the back. So I sat myself. Took 10 minutes to get a menu and another 10 to place my order. When the food was brought out, it was missing the coleslaw which was supposed to come with the meal. In addition to that, the waiter was too busy to take my drink order. I didn’t even have water. Finished eating my food. The waiter never once stopped by to see how I was doing. After finishing my food, I waited 15 minutes. The waiter never came by. I had to go to him to ask for my check. 1 hour and 15 minutes from entering to leaving and not even a cup of water was offered to me. Also, the tables had no hot sauce or salt or anything else. Water was served to other tables, I noticed. I dont know why I didnt get any. Just as well, since I saw a different waiter fill up a pitcher with water from the “employees must wash hands” sink. And lastly, the overpriced food was of low quality. Nit horrible, but not worth their prices and terrible service. I will not be returning.

If I could give zero stars I would. The workers have the nastiest attitudes. I stayed at the resort and the restaurant was attached. My two year old son and I sat down for dinner and it took 23 minutes for us to receive a menu although there was only ONE other couple dining in the empty restaurant. At the 15 minute mark I asked the server who was just standing by the to go station if we could be helped and he just pointed to the bartender; he didn’t say “oh someone one will be right with you.. he didn’t say anything”… the bartender proceeded to continue to wipe down the bar top and pick up her phone to text, then turned around and looked at the tvs. Seven minutes later, I stood up and walked to the bar countertop and asked for the menus myself from the bartender and after a minute she gave it to me. I sat back down at the table and she came over to finally ask what we would like. No warm greeting. No apology. Just poor customer service. It was 90 degrees out and I asked if I could start with a water for my child, and she pointed to a dirty hand washing sink and said do you want tap water? Unbelievable. I said a restaurant doesn’t have bottled water? She said oh yes and told me the price as if I asked. I ordered our food and she told me it would be 10 to 15 minutes for our burgers to arrive. I said that is fine and asked where the bathroom was . She said we had to pay our tab before walking inside the restaurant to take my son to the bathroom!!! I handed her my card and said u can just make my food to go, and she handed me the machine and said u can sign it. I guess she wasn’t expecting a tip, but even tho she didn’t deserve it I still tipped 20 percent. In college I worked in restaurants and the bartender is responsible for the bar seating and the tabletops surrounding the bar, so why did it take so long to be acknowledged if her bar was empty? I don’t know why but the next morning I gave the restaurant another try but this time I just ordered our breakfast to go and took it to the room. When we got to the room there was only one set of utensils in the bag so I went back to the restaurant to ask for another one. It was different servers than the previous night and I asked can I get another to go fork. Out of the three servers that were standing around, one spoke for all of them and said I had to get it from the front desk. I said why when I just got my food not even 5 minutes ago. He then bent down and grabbed a utensil from the bucket and said your welcome in the most sarcastic manner. I was livid because it was like he was demanding a thank you! Never will they get any of my business. This restaurant was the worst experience in Miami. I DO NOT RECOMMEND! THEY TREAT YOU AS IF YOU...

The food was good. The waiter was not. When we were there about midday in July, very hot time, there were two single diners at other patio tables and one group of 3 on the porch. We asked to sit in the shade, anywhere. Almost all the then-shaded table were 4-tops. Had there been any there groups there, I would have totally understood saving the 4-tops since we were a party of 2, but there were none. But the waiter still wouldn't let us sit at one of the empty shaded 4-tops. No other groups of customers came while we were there. We ordered a yogurt dish and a waffle with butter, both regular menu items. Both were good. (Waffle came without the butter and waiter, Barrios, was annoyed when I asked for it, even though it was listed on the menu with the dish.) He also didn't bring silverware or napkins and we had to ask. He brought me a fork and a knife to eat yogurt and I had to go to the bar to ask for a spoon. Our waiter then brought a spoon but it was dirty. I had ordered tap water and he brought an expensive bottled one instead, which I declined. He then did bring a small glass of water, which he never refilled, and I went to the bar to do myself. None of this is terrible, but since it was about 100 degrees outside, and having been a waitress for many years myself, I know it's just basic service to refill water. When the check came, the waiter was annoyed that we paid in cash, and he shorted me on the change, handing it folded up and telling me it was the correct amount. He seemed irritated when I unfolded it and showed him it wasn't right. He then took the correct bills out of his pocket but refused to give the coin portion, saying, "We don't do change here." I understand that some places don't, but a) that is stated somewhere and b) items are priced accordingly, so you don't get a bill with a change amount. The tip and service fee are pre-added to the bill, which is why I guess the waiter could have cared less about the quality of the experience. But trying to steal part of your change is over the top, and being irritated when you ask for it is very uncool. Again, I was a waitress for several years and ALWAYS tip fully, but I also cared about customer experience and never would have tried to steal. I think this place with another waiter would have been...

I was asked to leave a review following my stay, and while I’m happy to acknowledge the few staff members who were respectful and helpful, I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel. Despite booking online, we were unexpectedly charged several hundred dollars at the front desk—well beyond the advertised $100 refundable deposit. This lack of transparency was the first major concern.

Guests should be aware that access to beach and pool amenities requires an additional $30–$40 per day and takes place at a completely separate hotel located about a 15-minute walk away—something never mentioned during booking. The property has no elevators, and check-in occurs in one building while your room may be located a block away in another, adding unnecessary inconvenience.

The dining experience was also disappointing. I ordered takeout and returned within 30 minutes, only to be told the staff had thrown away my barely touched meal. Attempts to compromise were denied, and I was asked to pay $50–$60 for a replacement sandwich—an outrageous price, especially considering a $10 meal is available just down the street. With automatic gratuity and side items, a simple meal can approach $100.

The rooms are minimally equipped, lacking phones, microwaves, and any form of room service. Even basic needs like water or food reheating require walking a block away. Room keys repeatedly failed, requiring frequent trips to the front desk. The online photos reflect the Sherry Frontenac—not the actual Oceanside accommodations—resulting in misleading expectations.

For the price, the level of service and convenience falls significantly short. I’ve had far better experiences at budget hotels for a fraction of the cost like a “Holiday Inn”. Based on my experience, I would not return and urge future guests to consider...
