I truly hate leaving bad reviews, though, I feel it’s my duty when I pay for a bad experience, especially at a place with this much unnecessary hype. I’ll start with the positives which is that the place is stunning. The building is iconic and they’ve done a nice job restoring it, as far as I got to see. There was an upstairs I didn’t get a chance to visit, but that’s okay. The second good thing I’ll say is that the guacamole in the lounge was fantastic. Like, truly amazing. I’m a huge fan of guac and you won’t believe how many places, yes, even Mexican ones, don’t do a good job with that very simple dish. The cocktails were also great. So overall, the night started out fine. When we finally got seated in the dining room, the place was packed and buzzing. Kinda reminded me of an elevated cafeteria with tables very close to one another, and lots of them. I get it. You’re trying to squeeze in as many people as possible, but typically, that impacts service, which it did, plus, it got pretty loud. The acoustics weren’t the best in either of the rooms. That takes away from the illusion of a ‘fine dining’ experience. This place is sort of reminiscent of what Sexy Fish and Gekko use to be. If you’ve gone to either in the past when they opened, you know what I’m talking about. Lots of buzz at the beginning, but unfortunately, that and all else falls short after a while. If changes aren’t made, I can see this happening to ZZ’s soon enough. Yes, I can tell this early on. Sadly, their main food from their very large menu was not that great. The corn appetizer was decent, and the raw fish dish was okay. All else fell short, including the branzino. The dessert at the end was just okay. Onto the service…it started out great and then others started assisting and they didn’t know what was going on, if things got ordered, etc. Lack of communication didn’t help. It’s a shame that hey add the tip on the bill automatically, but honestly, paying for bad service, even in Miami, is quite standard these days, and they always hope to get something on top of that, lol. The last thing they did, which I disliked the most, was that they added bottled Panna water to the bill which we did NOT ask for. Three of them, in fact. I told a server who was merely standing nearby and he said what we were drinking was bottled Panna, which was BS. I never once saw a bottle of Panna, much less, 3 of them! The right thing to do was to take it off the bill, which of course, he did not. He didn’t even care for what I was saying. The bill came out to just over $600 and only 3 of us truly ate, the 4th person only had 2 drinks and a dessert. Flavors and service just isn’t there to justify this price, and I certainly hate being lied to. There are plenty of good options in Miami where paying that amount, or even more, is worth it. This just isn’t one of them. You can people watch elsewhere for far less, eat much better food and get good service. I’d rather support those...
Read moreI recently dined at an upscale restaurant, drawn in by its elevated appearance and welcoming ambiance. The host accommodated our lateness graciously, and the lively crowd added to the atmosphere. However, the service left much to be desired.
From the moment we sat down, both the server's assistant and the server repeatedly referred to us as "girls," which felt inappropriate given the upscale setting and the prices we were paying. The server's use of phrases like "I love that for you guys" further detracted from the overall dining experience.
Despite these discomforts, the food was a highlight, with excellent presentation and fair portion sizes for the price. The churros for dessert were particularly delightful. Unfortunately, the server forgot one of our ordered items, and the overall attentiveness to our table left much to be desired.
To add to the frustration, the premature presentation of the bill before dessert arrived was a final misstep. We decided to share our concerns with the manager, detailing various issues, including the inappropriate language, forgotten items, and premature billing.
While the manager listened attentively, there was a lack of proactive measures to address our concerns. No offers of complimentary items or gestures were made to rectify the uncomfortable experience. The manager did follow up via email, stating an investigation into the matter, but no further resolution or compensation was provided.
Having worked in the hospitality industry, I found these lapses in service (changing half the plates between the meals and us having to ask for the rest to be changed, the new napkin we requested not being changed and the old dirty one one being left on the table) and below the expected standard for an establishment of this caliber. The lack of a meaningful response from the management further contributed to our overall dissatisfaction with the dining experience.
Additionally, I can imagine the embarrassment had this been a business outing with our pharma CEO colleagues. Fortunately, this was a casual girls' night out with a close friend who is both an attorney and holds a C-level position in another pharmaceutical company. Despite the casual nature of our gathering, the lapses in service would have been notably inappropriate for a professional setting, reflecting poorly on the...
Read moreTalk about a disappointment. After waiting years for someone to finally do something with this space in our neighborhood, we get some kind of weird Mexican fusion restaurant in a french chateau? The crowd looked like they imported everyone you’re trying to avoid by not going to Miami Beach. Even saw one of the Sackler’s decked out in blood diamonds.
What should be a light airy atmosphere is instead, dark, extremely loud, and claustrophobic. I guess if you weren’t factoring in the price you could describe some of the food as “ok”. The calamari was good and the churros were great. We ordered so many things off the menu and not one was even memorable. Making your own tacos for that price? People have lost their minds. They make a big deal out of their salsas, but you’d find better at any hole in the wall taqueria in any city in the US, let alone Mexico.
It’s what you’d expect from Carbone. A tacky scene for wannabes that have no taste in food, style, ambience, or service. Plenty of people taking selfies though! He’s trying to sell the restaurant group so food quality is the least of his concerns. They just want to show numbers but I doubt they have any repeat customers aside from the tacky Beach crew of low rent social influencers that stick out like a sore thumb in Brickell.
Everyone local hates the place, mostly for the traffic jams because Uber drivers and the stuck up diners are too unaware to not block a busy intersection. Same with deliveries during the day.
They seem to be hurting based on the steady decline of tasteless luxury cars the valet used to keep in front. There used to be a few Ferraris for the insecure guy types, but now I’ve even seen Corvettes. Hopefully that means it’s on the way out.
Put in a proper french place with a proper lunch menu and this would be the most popular place in the neighborhood. As it is now, the neighborhood doesn’t want the restaurant or the clientele.
As I said,...
