Disclaimer: I am not the audience for ordering food and picking it up from a box without interacting with human beings. I'm not there yet. So although I'd heard of Soulfly, I wasn't particularly interested in visiting. Nevertheless, was celebrating my mom's birthday and the birthday girl wanted to come here after our wine tasting next door.
I'm glad the experience was not as impersonal as I anticipated. Partly because I just didn't feel like sticking to the script but also I couldn't get that doggone pickup situation together. LOL I had so many issues with the code to retrieve my order, it was seriously comical. I did observe others come in, put in the code, get the food and go though.
You do have to order on the kiosk but I was able to ask the manager if I could order it like this or that, which he happily made note of for my particular order. There was a little wait for having ordered onsite - things would have felt quicker had I ordered online from offsite then stopped in to pickup when notified the order was ready. I had the wings and cajun rice. Now what surprised me was that chicken! Ok, Soulfly! Very nicely seasoned, good crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. I was impressed considering my expectations. It reminded me of those good chinese takeout chicken wings. Nice surprise. The cajun rice was just okay for me.
The challenges to me coming back are that the price is just high for what you get. I understand there is a cost for "convenience" so it is what it is. However adding $6.54 to the order when I had to do the work to place it then pick it up is.... I don't and won't mind continuing to do things the old school way to pay a more reasonable price for fried chicken in other nearby neighborhoods. Also, no "convenient" parking. I feel like this spot is more geared towards people strolling on the street or for food delivery drivers who will be on a moped only.
Overall for the chicken and helpfulness of the onsite staff, I give it a 3.5,...
Read moreI was in town on Sunday August the 6 & 7, I was staying in a condo in Wynnwood. I googled food near me and this popped up. To be honest I was a little apprehensive, but they were so close to where I was staying that it was literally a two minute walk. Let me first say that the whole process was amazing. Everything was touchscreen ordering, the cook in the back and the front desk person were awesome. He could tell that I was a little lost with the ordering system so he came out and personally walked me through the process. He made great recommendations, so I ended up getting chicken tenders, collard greens and the dirty rice. My food was freaking amazing, I am from Mississippi, so I know good chicken, collard greens and dirty rice. This was some of the best food I have ever had, I kid you not. I don’t drink sodas, so he recommended the lavender lemonade. I swear this was the best lemonade I have ever had in my life. The smell and the taste of the lemonade were simply amazing. He also offered a biscuit and I later found out it was a sweet potato biscuit, so it was a little sweet for my taste, but it was still good and it just made my whole experience even better. I never really do food reviews and I would say shame on me but this food was so good that I found the website just so I could do this review. I usually go to STK when I’m in town or some other high-end restaurants but because I was only in town for a day, this was just convenient but anytime I am in Miami in the future I will definitely stop bye and visit. thank you again for a great experience and...
Read moreWhen I saw Soulfly Chicken featured in an Instagram video, I knew I had to get to Wynwood and taste some of Miami's best fried chicken.
I have to admit that I'm still getting used to the idea of self-ordering. I enjoy speaking with people. However, I silently placed my order through the digital kiosk. I was tempted to order everything on the menu. I choose the Classic Chicken Sandwich, Dirty Rice, Fried Corn, and a Peach Cobbler Milkshake instead. While I waited for my food, I jammed out to early 2000s R&B music and ate a chicken tender that a restaurant customer generously gave me. There were two tables where people could stand and eat, as well as four stools where people could sit and wait for their food.
My order was placed in a clear locker, and I needed to enter the last four digits of my phone number to get it. The chicken was incredibly flavorful. Whatever they coat the chicken in before frying it was delicious. Get the Fire level if you like your chicken spicy. The Hot level was only moderately spicy.
My biggest surprise was how much I liked the Fried Corn. The Dirty Rice, which I expected to be more flavorful, disappointed me.
I can't wait to go back and get some more chicken tenders (which were incredibly meaty and filling) with the hot honey sauce. On my next trip, I'd also like to try the Banana Pudding, Sweet Potato Biscuits, and Iced...
