My husband and I shared the Monte Cristo sandwich, the Navajo taco, and a scone. For the side, we had onion rings.
We were seated quickly at a properly sized table. The tables are a bit close together, but given how busy it was, that makes sense.
Food arrived in a reasonable time frame and was the correct temperature.
The Monte Cristo is not a true Monte Cristo. It's a triple decker ham and turkey sandwich on French toast with a very scant dusting of powdered sugar and a ramekin of thin jam. We would have understood if this was a place with a griddle but no deep fryer. Here, however, half the menu goes through the deep fryer. No swiss cheese, very little jam, and the whole thing isn't fried. We had hoped to find a Monte Cristo to rival the one at Piper Down. This didn't do it. Notably, the onion rings were better than the sandwich. They were a highlight for the whole meal and we highly recommend them.
The Navajo taco was disappointing. The scone was perfect. The lettuce and onion were what we expected. The tiny plastic ramekins of sour cream and salsa were okay, but small given the size of the meal. The chili wasn't so much a chili as a cup of bland beans. Very little cheese. This needed some brightness and a bit of heat. If a bottle of hot sauce had been at the table or if the server had checked in before we were almost done so we could ask for hot sauce, that would have helped. We're big fans of Navajo tacos and really wanted to like this one. It just wasn't very good.
The scone was served with a ramekin of honey butter. I am allergic to honey and notified the server. Instead of offering to bring some butter without honey or some jam, she talked about how much she loves honey and wanted to know if I am also allergic to bees. I can't review the honey butter or the scone with butter. I can only review the scone with the little bit of thin jam that I could scrape out of the disposable ramekin that came with the Monte Cristo. The scone was large and properly fried. No burned or overcooked parts. No raw dough. The flavor was good. Temperature was good. I would order it again, but I would go out of my way to ask for something to replace the honey butter.
Rather than giving us a check to pay, our total was read loudly at our table and we were asked to produce our method of payment. We were still eating and had to stop our discussion and meal in order to grab our debit card. It felt rushed and definitely gave an impression that our enjoyment of our meal was not included in the price. The price was appropriate, but a bit high given our overall experience.
This isn't a place I would recommend for a date. We don't intend to come back with our children. I can't imagine a scenario where we would be eager to return to Ramblin Roads. The best thing I can say is that it was just okay. If basic diner fare is your goal, this could do the trick. There are other options in the valley we would recommend first, but we wouldn't specifically deter anyone from trying this place. They were quite busy while we were there, though, so surely other people liked it much better...

Read moreMy friend and I are always looking for good places to eat. A few months ago we went to Rambling Roads restaurant in Midvale. Since our first meal we have been back several times, usually for breakfast but sometimes for lunch. The food is delicious and the presentation wonderful. The service is excellent. A few days ago I invited my daughter and her two children and my wife and her children to dine at the Midvale Rambling Roads restaurant, there were seven of us one two year old. They sat us very comfortably at a large round table. We hadn’t been together as a group for a long time and we were chatting a lot. Our waiter was very considerate and gave us plenty of time to socialize. Our waiter approached us several times and asked if we were ready to order. Finally our hunger overcame our chatting and we ordered. There was something on the menu that appealed to everyone. Our meals were brought to our table within a few minutes of each other and the food was nothing short of fantastic. We all ate and enjoyed our meals and the time we spent together at the Midvale Rambling Roads restaurant. Not only was the food and service great the cost for the whole group was only $140.00! I can without hesitation recommend...
