You know what I was expecting tonight just after 8PM? Another night of mediocre Monroe fast food. I'd almost rather eat my couch cushion that endure another night of Taco Time or Jack'n'Carls. Blehhh. Instead, we remembered that Thai on Main might be open a little later, so we gave them a try. Ordered Phad See Ew, Phad Thai, Panang Curry, Ping Moo and Summer rolls. What was going to end up being yet another dreadful COVID night was instead transformed into a delicious reminder of my times visiting SE Asia. The Ping Moo - essentially a Lao BBQ Pork - was epic, and took me back to Pai, Thailand - the first place I had ever had a chance to try Lao street food blended with Northern Thai - a collection of memories I wouldn't sell for gold. The Pork was also served with a container of chili jam, which just told me the person that made this food made it for themselves. The other sauce served with the pork was homemade and tasted exactly like I remembered it should taste, but I wanted MORE - way more, like enough to wash my hair with. The noodles were well-spiced like I asked for and required no modification at all. The Panang Curry was a little sweet, but a touch of fish sauce put it just right for my taste. The summer rolls were fresh and the peanut sauce that came with was perfect - the kind of peanut sauce that would work on plain white rice.
We had gray-listed this restaurant for a while due to some prior service problems (like closing 45 minutes early several months ago, and being completely unapologetic about it ), and prior to that, being owned by members of BenjaWRONG Thai restaurant, which we absolutely despise. We're super happy that the new owners feature a Lao menu, and you definitely need to look it over - fresh meets flavor here, and it's light years healthier for you than anything you'll find at any fast-food...
Read moreI heard Thai on Main was good so we finally tried it. Some context, I'm used to an east coast style of Asian food, so some of how I feel is skewed to that style.
With that said, the rice is a different texture than I'm accustomed, it's moist and has big pieces of onion, green onion and half a tomato. It's sweet, probably because is might be made from coconut milk. I'm used to fried rice that's a little dryer, and has more of an umami flavor, with sprouts, green onion, peas and corn. It's complimented by hot sauce or duck sauce.
I'm also accustomed to having fried chicken wings, whole wings, not wing pieces. Also an order of wings will knab you four generous sized, whole wings. I was taken aback by getting only five small wing pieces, and they were a little on the dry side.
I was disappointed by the price of the food itself as well. I've had an order of four chicken wings and fried rice well under $10.00, the five wing pieces alone were $10.00. The rice portion is very generous, but I was disappointed by the amount of wings you get.
Overall the meal was ok, but not to the extent of giving repeat business. Perhaps if there are some changes in the future I'll consider trying it again, but I'll have to pass for now.
Update: For clarification my son and I have similar names so we can be confused for each other. We both had the same meal and we both have written a separate review. There was a speculation that we are the same person, we are not....
Read moreI have been coming to this restaurant since it first opened. The food was great and customer service was as well. It was sold about a year ago and the food isn’t quite as good as the original owners but it is still better than other Asian restaurants in the area. That being said, I stopped by this evening to order take out and noticed they were now allowing eat in service again. I ordered a glass of wine while I waited for my 60 dollars worth food to go and asked if I could sit anywhere while I had my glass of wine and waited, and the girl at the front desk told me I had to have my glass of wine seated in the lobby area because they only allow seating for people who order food in since they will have to sanitize the table. I’m not sure how difficult it is to wipe down a table with bleach water and considering how much food I ordered I didn’t think it was too much to ask to be allowed to sit at a table to have my wine while I waited. Instead I was made to sit at a table next to the front door in the lobby while folks popped in and out. I wonder if they sanitized the table and chair I sat in while I drank my glass of wine in the waiting area. Thai on Main... I will never patronize your establishment again. Terrible service!!! Btw...It didn’t go unnoticed by other patrons. A woman exiting at that time commented on how rude it...
