Search reviews J C. San Luis Obispo, CA 0312 2/16/2023 I wouldn't say this place is expensive, I'd say it's just way overpriced. Expensive would denote that the $30 Crab Cakes would be some of the best damn Crab Cakes you've ever had in your life but worth it. The $30 Crab Cakes here are actually among the worst I've had. They're not really cakes but more like warm mushy crab balls. They don't have the familiar crispy breading, they are un-breaded with an unappealing soft texture, served a degree or two above room temperature. I love a good crispy fried Crab Cake, served hot and delicious. These are nothing like that. We also had the Kickers Coastal Fish Chowder which was utterly forgettable. It's basically a bowl of bland broth with bits of fish floating in it. Kind of like if you cooked some fish in a pan then removed it, and then took the pan to the sink and filled it with hot water and the bits of fish that were stuck to the bottom of the pan, floated to the top. Now if the cereal bowl sized portion was $6 and not $20 it might make a little more sense. Again, overpriced for what you get. Our other lunch fair was not noteworthy. The atmosphere is a cross between an old barn and a sports bar, with old wood boards un-artistically nailed to the walls, concrete floors, and hard surfaces everywhere. The booths are roomy and comfortable, but it's February and the room was only in the mid 60s and I didn't bring a big coat with me. The service was inattentive, and a bit sloppy. Kind of what you would expect at a corporate high volume, low cost dine-in joint. When the two of us spend $100 for lunch, we're not wrong to expect a more elevated experience. We are locals so we can say there are much better options just a few feet away. Window On The Water is similarly priced, but provides a high end, table-clothed, dining experience. Next door is The Galley, which costs a bit less, but the food, the atmosphere, and especially the service, is so much better, Great American Fish Co. is very good and Dutchman has the best food on the wharf. Sorry Kickers, you got to lower your prices, or really up your game or you're not likely to survive in this competitive...
Read moreWe were seated with menus right away. There was a table of 8, a table of 3 and us (a table of 2). It was at least 25 minutes before our waiter would come to take our order. The host had given us glasses of water when he seated us. We told the waiter we wanted to split a main course and each get a cup of bisque. The waiter started discouraging the bisque and tried to get us to order the chowder. We tried to tell him one of us didnât like clams, but he kept going on about the chowder. We finally asked if he would bring a sample of the bisque and we would decide. It was not after I went up up to the counter, 35 minutes later, to ask about the sample and after apologizing again that he was the only one working, that the host finally brought a cup of the bisque. I explained that we wanted the soup before our food. My friend decided to get a side salad instead. Each time the waiter came to the table, he had to say ok you are table A2 and your order wasâŚ.unsure of what we had ordered. We should have got up and left, but I thought he was new and to give him a chance. Anyways when the food finally arrived ( grilled salmon) it was lukewarm. The clam chowder arrived later and the salad never came. When I tried to explain our frustration to the waiter, keeping in mind he was the only one working and now had several more tables, he kept talking over me saying he wasnât going to charge me for anything that I did not order. It was a fiasco from start to finish. I asked if he was new and he said that he had over 25 years in the restaurant industry. Someone with that kind of experience should have not argued with the customer, and have to ask what our order was over and over. The poor person who came in after us, was ignored also. The waiter had to ask him if he had gotten his food and the man said, you havenât taken my order yet! As we left, another customer was complaining that they got the the wrong food. Management: if you donât have the proper amount of staff to serve your customers - donât open. Please! Almost 50.00 for barely...
Read moreMy daughter and son-in-law were married in Morro Bay on February 22,2025. Our family chose Kickers to host a Welcoming Party for all the wedding guests the night before the big event. We had approximately 75-80 people invited and rented out the entire venue. The evening was a huge success. It was amazing to have such a beautiful event to start off the âWedding Weekendâ. From the beginning, Arturo Tapia, worked with us to make the evening exactly what we had in mind. He brought us in to view the restaurant, taste the food, sample the wines, and show us his impeccable customer service. Our menu was a buffet comprised of lobster rolls, tri-tip steak sandwiches, calamari strips, coleslaw, fries, and cups of chowder. All the food selections were excellent. The bar service was great. We had an open with plenty of beer to choose from and our preselected wines. We were able to bring in decorations to accent the restaurant. The atmosphere is warm, inviting and fun! There are large picture windows along the entire back of the restaurant to enjoy the spectacular view of Morro Rock. There is also an outdoor space to enjoy the beautiful sunset and watch otters playing in the water. I cannot say enough about the superb customer service and the cleanliness of Kickers. They set the bar high for the events that followed and we are thankful they allowed us to host our...
