Tonight, we ventured to the newest Indian spot in town, Ugadi Indian Grill on Medical Center. For those of you who don't like to continue reading, a summary: top notch in flavor and decent service. Clean restaurant.
For the rest of you: We arrived at 5:30 and were seated immediately. Our server brought us menus and water. We do tend to throw servers off, as we always order a whole buffet for the two of us, so we'll forgive her for that confusion. We started with the Ugadi special dosa, samosa, and pakora. The dosa was absolutely delicious. The taste of the dosa, which is filled with pretty much every thing, was delicious. It also comes with 2 sauces and another that seems like pickled curry? I didn't ask about it, but we used it very happily for the pakora as well. The samosa was hot and the right amount of crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. The pakora was legit the largest order of pakora I've seen, and both the mint and the tamarind sauces were amazing. The pakora was elevated by whatever that pickled curry flavored juice was from the dosa plate. We also ordered a Desi salad which was a nice fresh bowl to have on the table. For the main, we ordered chicken saag and novratan korma with garlic naan. We asked for a level 4 because we both LOVE hot food. My brother tells me I eat lava. We are regular orderers of 3-4 at most restaurants, but the server told us we should get a 3 because it was very very spicy. We said okay and went with her suggestion. This is where my unfortunately comes in. Unfortunately, the level 3 felt and tasted like a level 0 or 1, honestly. I've read people say this place serves hot food, and I think they must have adjusted their spice level for the hotel corridor and based on community response. What I will say was that the flavor of the level 0-1 was amazing. It tasted wonderful, but we had wanted that heat that was missing. Lane ate her meal with the hot peppers from the Desi salad 𤣠The naan was, in a word, disappointing. It felt like the naan you buy from Kroger. Thick and soft and the garlic was not poppin like expected. It was even a little dry for naan. But that's okay. You can't hit everything out of the park every time. We'll definitely be back, but we will ask for a true 4 next time and hope that what we received tonight was not actually a true 3... Because then we might need a 7 š¤£š¤£š¤£ Up side: the fact that we didn't get water refills was fine since the food wasn't spicy! Speed comment: this food comes out FAST. We watched other tables after we'd finished eating. All of it came out fast and at the right temp!
Go check it out for yourself. I hope you find it as...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo I was looking for a place to go and grab a celebratory bite (celebration of life).....I wanted to try a new location and I was NOT disappointed!!! First, we were greeted by a nice, soft spoken waiter. He welcomed us in and made some suggestions. We tried the Samosas and Chili Gobi for appetizers. The Chili Gobi is great for anyone looking for a tasty vegetarian option or (if you're like me) veggie lovers!!! It was deep fried seasoned cauliflower with a Chili sauce! It was not lacking flavor nor crunch!!! It was perfection. I LOVE SAMOSAS!!! That's it Lol!!! For the entrees, we tried their Lamb Korma and Lamb Curry. I have never had Lamb Korma before. I will say that it's not MY favorite of other Indian dishes I have tried, but it was STILL GOOD. I can see this being a fan favorite of those that want a creamy, flavorful option. I love the more robust flavor options of Indian dishes but this is definitely a winner for those wanting a more" toned down" experience. Would I eat it again in the future....DEFINETLY!!! Like I said, it's good!!!!
Let me not forget to mention the TENDERNESS and the healthy portion of Lamb in both dishes!!!! It wasn't sauce with a dash of meat smh. It was a nice balance of both!!! I didn't have to go fishing for a piece of meat in a vast sea of sauce!!!
I can't leave without mentioning the Mango Lassi....I have tried it before at other locations and the tang of the yogurt could over power and the thickness be a little too much....BUT the one I tried today!!!! The sweetness of the mango rang loud and clear on my tastebuds!!! I did a little dance in my seat after the first sip!!! She was just the right amount of sweetness and thickness that made it an enjoyable experience. She didn't last long because I couldn't stop sipping!!!! Had to grab a tea to continue on with my meal.
Wait!!! The dessert....we tried Gulab Jamun for the first time. On the menu it is described as a milk based deep fried dumpling soaked in light sugar syrup. The easiest way for me to describe it is pancakes (in small ball form) that have the syrup soaked all the way through. It will definitely satisfy a sweet tooth, but if you are someone who doesn't like super sweet desserts, this may not be your cup of tea.
The bottom line is this....I am looking forward to coming back and trying more dishes!!! Don't let this experience escape you!
By the way, I tried a bite of the Lamb Curry....and I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA quick update on ugadi Indian grill. My wife and I had lunch there yesterday and the food quality is even better than the first time we ate there. The service was flawless, with the food delivered quickly and hot . We take speed of delivery very important as we usually eat at lunch and don't have any time to spare. I had a very very spicy by my own request, Lamb Vindaloo and it was perfect. Probably one of the best Indian dishes I had ever eaten. My wife viewed her chicken Tawa equally as great. We can hardly wait to eat there again just a sample more of the menu. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and comfortable. I will keep everyone updated about our next visit.
Good news Murfreesboro a new Indian restaurant has opened, and trust me they have raised the bar for Indian food in Middle Tennessee. Ugadi Indian grill opened recently. My wife and I visited a few days ago and are still in awe over the food. They cook southern Indian food. My chicken biryani, finally someone spiced it to a level that could probably smelt iron ore. Of course I asked for it this way, the flavor, and the presentation was beautiful. My wife had the appetizer of chicken 65, and it was delicious. We ordered samosas as an appetizer. They are like a pastry shell with mashed potatoes and vegetables inside. As an appetizer they were delicious and came with perfectly prepared mint and tamarind chutneys delicious. One thing that surprised me was their dosa, a very thinly cooked bread thinner than a pizza crust but probably 20 in in diameter. Ours had cheese and we asked them to make it spicy so again it could sterilize the street of Calcutta with the spice .It was perfect, the Dosa came with three different dipping sauces. I can hardly wait to have it again. I will report back in a few weeks. To the downside of the wonderful restaurant they were obviously still in their growing stages. Some of the food took a little while to come out, there was a little bit of confusion but they're still learning. The restaurant has just opened and probably hasn't even had a grand opening yet. If you eat there soon it will probably still be a little confusion, but that's okay. All restaurants need that learning time. I can hardly wait to go back there and eat again ,the food was so good compared to other Middle Tennessee...
