I've been putting off writing this review because I wanted to make sure I could gather all my thoughts on how spectacular this place is, but I'm sure I'll still leave something out, and I can't delay any longer, so here is my rant...
I was tasked with organizing my companies Christmas party this year, and a few variables led us to Black Rabbit.
I cannot express enough how great this restaurant/venue is. We had a party of about 70, and the service/food/aesthetic was spectacular. Not only did every single staff member show up with their game-face and a helpful attitude, the managerial team and owner stopped at nothing to make it as easy on me as they possibly could.
Throughout the whole process, I kept thinking there would be some sort of catch - but no, they're just one of the only last standing teams in Nashville that delivers quality in every aspect because... I don't know- they're good people who enjoy what they do?!? WEIRD concept nowadays.
Kayla, Tommy, and Trey went above and beyond. My bosses raved about the service and little customizations I wanted to incorporate that BR happily obliged. The food? Amazing. Drinks? Just as amazing.
I'm a micro-manager, and find myself dotting "i"s, and crossing "t"s over and over again, and I honestly felt like I didn't even do any of the work to make this event what I wanted. If I barely had an idea of something I thought would be a nice spin, they helped produce the final product the same way you would as if you pulled all the weight in a group project.
There is no doubt that they care about what they do, how the serve, what they offer, and they enjoy what they do. I have nothing but praise and loyalty for Black Rabbit, after this experience. It will forever be a recommendation from myself, and if I ever hear Trey, Tommy, or Kayla's names attached to anything else, I'll probably blindly follow them wherever they go.
They're transparent, honest, and thoughtful, and I'm pumped that I got to introduce BR to my coworkers who are all now equally obsessed.
Do yourself a favor, and do not pass this spot up. It's cozy, and all...
Read moreThe White Rabbit is a great looking speakeasy style restaurant just off Printer's Alley. The service was excellent, knowledgeable, and professional. The atmosphere was great and well curated with some excellent and innovative design features (the hat lights and old photos are subtle but very cool touches).
The food though, especially for the prices, was just good; not great or amazing. They are big on adding smoke flavor to things, even the things it seems don't have that listed on the actual menu. The elk and smoked blueberry sauce with mushrooms were nice, but if you don't like the aftertaste of loose leaf tobacco, it's not for you. The kimchee, that was made in house, was an especially bright spot although I suspect anyone who grew up eating it will find it quite mild.
Perhaps the most disappointing part was the dessert. We opted for the Nutella cake. Sure, there were candies hazelnuts on top. But that's where the resemblance to Nutella stopped. The chocolate cake layers were borderline dry, the mousse like layers and caramel sauce were so salty that we could not eat it. It tastes more like a mistake than a choice, as in perhaps they accidentally doubled the salt in the recipe. The temperature was also a bit unusual. While one would expect chilled mousse or warmed cake/sauce, it was inexplicably precisely room temperature. While it might not seem like much, it was vaguely off putting in the same subtle way you know the person in the horror movie shouldn't wander off alone.
Overall, it looks great, and the staff were lovely. For the money though, next time we'll go down the street and try...
Read moreI was last here 5 years ago and I've literally thought about it at least once a week since then. I crossed the threshold with some trepidation wondering if it would be as good as I remembered. They OVER delivered.
I love the space. It has a great mix of tables, bar seats, high tops, and patio. My only issue is that it can get a little loud as people really begin to enjoy themselves. But, at least folks are having fun.
The cocktail menu changes often but everything is fresh and delicious. My cocktail, the Wisenheimer, was a delicious blend of gin and Aperol with some honey to balance and sage to add depth. Take my advice and order your second as they bring your first. You will want more than one.
The beer selection is a nice mix of local and national, craft and macro. Every beer drinker should find something they like and possibly have something new.
The food is the real star. Fresh, imaginative, and delicious. Since I was here alone I only got to have the one dish (chicken sausage with an arugula and preserved lemon salad) and it was excellent. The sausage was flavorful without being overbearing (share it though since they were very generous) but the real star was the salad. It's hard to make arugula salad memorable but they did it. It really lifted the sausage and made each bite bright and bitter. A very hard thing to accomplish.
I didn't get dessert but they looked very intriguing. An ice cream sandwich and a dark chocolate mousse. I just wish I had a wing man!
Black Rabbit will always be on my list anytime I'm...
