Let me first say, the caliber of talent in this show is the reason for the price tag. These are incredibly talented professionals that isolated in their individual showcases were astounding and wonderful. I was blown away by the talent of each of the numbers. In fact, if the show was just sold as a basic Revue of some incredibly talented people, I wouldn't be as let down.
The show sells itself as more of a Cirque de Soleil themed show with a story line linking the performances. You are welcomed to the very fun atmosphere of the Shiner Family Reunion, a family of misfit moonshiners. While this lends itself to some great humor and fun (including a moonshine mix up that leads to a hilarious and amazing performance between two of the Shiner Brothers) the overall execution was a miss for me. The hosts energy during the story portions of the show was awkward and low. It felt like they were obligated to be there rather than playing a character.
Additionally, the numbers in the show are in the wrong order. The first half of the show had some incredibly astounding acrobatic feats and then ended with some acid trip inspired step dancing number that felt tonally out of place with the rest of the show and a beautiful song performed by one of the hosts. Again, both performers are incredibly talented, and I get wanting to leave the audience with more, but we left feeling let down. Coupled with the price tag and the hour-and-a-half run time, we felt a little gypped.
In summary, the show feels like someone watched Cirque de Soleil, Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede, and part of the Full Monty, did a line of cocaine and somehow convinced some incredibly talented performers to partake in this show.
Also, be prepared from some potentially rowdy drunk people that the hosts don't quite know how to deal with. That may have explained the low energy, but you can't let the drunks ruin it for the rest of...
Read moreOf the beaten path that is Broadway in downtown Nashville past the Ryman is a little theatre with a BIG show! Welcome to the Shiner Family Reunion at the Woolworth Theatre! Chuck Wicks really "shines" as host Mason Shiner, introducing you to his family, some not Blood-related, and all of their "hidden" talents. That is one very flexible family! Wicks' improv skills keep the audience involved and make the show even more fun! Audience participation is encouraged, but not required. We had the pleasure of seeing two Broadway stars in the role of Violet, Mason's Sister. Yes, we have seen the show more than once. Laura Osnes and Rachel Potter both offered their own twist to the character along with stunning vocal performances.
If you don't have a Backwoods sense of humor, and appreciate a little innuendo, this may not be the show for you. It is an 18 and over attraction. It will tickle all of your senses. Your eyes won't believe what you are seeing, your ears won't believe what you are hearing. The $5 shots of Moonshine taste and smell wonderful (And, according to Jo Fix-it, make the show that much better). The most pleasant smells come from the left side of the stage (Stage right). Just trust me on this one. Finally, this show will touch your heart.
How can such a BIG show be in such an intimate setting. This Ohio gal has still not quite figured that out. I will tell you this. I have been to Nashville many times. I have done all the touristy things, the bar hopping, the museums, Zoo, etc. This is something new and adventurous! a true Nash-Vegas show to add to your trip. A truly unique experience that will sell out fast once the word gets out. Whether you sit with the rich people in the mezzanine or in the cheap seats on the floor, I assure you that your face will hurt by the end of the show from...
Read moreZERO STARS! It just ended and I’m writing this before I wipe it from my memory forever. The WORST whatever that was (don’t know what to call it because there was no show)! Huge waste of money and time. Specifically:
There was nothing funny at all! Very awkward and childish antics. I’m the furthest thing from woke but that was the most cringeworthy display of outward racism I’ve ever witnessed in what was billed as a professional show. There is nothing funny about a black man being introduced as being from Africa, dressed in stereotypical garb, making monkey sounds and crawling around the ground for 20 minutes. There is zero organization or plot and just a bunch of random pathetic antics.
Seating - the VIP sections have very little view. Think of sitting in the back of a loft in a house and having equipment hanging from the ceiling, railings and a table in your line of sight and trying to see what’s happening on the floor below. You can’t see anything, only to have to be squished together. The only interaction was the street carnival circus performers occasionally saying “the rich people up there”.
The server came by once and the drink was 100% water. No alcohol! Of course two drinks cost another fortune.
Price - it cost $250+. I have no problem paying for a show even if it’s not the best but you couldn’t even pay me to watch it.
The music was loud which I normally would never complain about but it served no purpose. Random!
I write a lot of reviews and normally sandwich constructive criticism between positive feedback but I don’t I have anything good to say. It’s...
