Doughnuts were half cooked & tasted like old grease. I always get doughnuts from Parlor when we travel because they were there to help after a tornado experience & its our way of repaying a good deed. We've been to this store multiple times and this weekend was the worst. I had placed a pickup order and upon going in initially waited in line for drinks. I was in line for an hour, there was 1 person ringing up people & getting doughnuts there was no one to help her to begin with usually someone is getting the doughnuts and someone ringing up to help customer flow. After an hour wait they announced they were out of eggs and the kitchen was closed as well as at 10:00am when we got there the trays were half empty if not totally out and empty. A guy finally came to help up front, he took orders in front and behind me while ignoring he skipped me. I ordered 2 raspberry pistachio and 2 honey. I got 2 raspberry filled instead. The doughnuts were not fully cooked to the point they were still half raw & doughy, they also tasted like old grease. Since I had a dozen pick up order that should have been done and ready earlier we hoped those would be better. Only to find out my pick up order had not even been started yet. So I got a dozen of the half cooked greasy doughnuts put into my pick up order to hurry and fill it. After eating around the uncooked parts & grease we were sick and miserable all day. Not wanting to assume it was the doughnuts we came home to let the kiddo try some. The only souvenir my kid asks for when we travel is to bring home donuts. That night my husband and kiddo had a doughnut after dinner. To which everyone was up all night sick. The only thing we'd all had the same of we're the doughnuts. This is the 1st time we got doughnuts that were half raw and tasted of old grease, but we ended up throwing them away it wasn't worth it. These are far too expensive to taste like old grease, be raw, and have to throw away. There's also no parking now, the few spots there use to be in the lot beside and behind are now all marked for the other places. So if you can't get one of the 4/5 parking meter spots you're screwed. The donuts are a 5/5. They’re made fresh daily, huge, and there’s a good selection of flavors. I went into the store to order 2 donuts recently and the people working there (it was a girl and a guy) were very friendly. I'd give the IN store experience a 5/5.
Here's why I'm giving Parlor Doughnuts a 3: Because of the first great experience, I wanted to order more to bring to an event. I was ordering just 5 donuts.
It was 5pm, and Parlor Donuts closes at 6:30. I called a few times to see if I could order donuts over the phone for pickup. No response.
Then I saw online that there’s an online order option. Great! I ordered 5 donuts, paid online, and the site and receipt said that they’d be ready for pickup within 10 minutes, around 5:40. I wasn't expecting them to be ready so quickly, so that was a nice surprise.
At 6:20, I arrived at the store to pick up the donuts. They don’t close until 6:30 so I knew it was cutting it close, but it was a simple pickup order that was already paid for.
The doors were locked. I knocked. The girl at the counter looked up and saw me, and then looked back down and continued whatever she was doing. I knocked again. Nothing. I called. FINALLY she picks up the phone.
She told me they were closed and had run out of donuts. And that ‘oh sorry, yeah that’s why ordering online is risky' even though the order was supposed to be ready an hour before close. The tone was rude and uncaring.
I had to ask if she could refund me, so she spoke with another person at the store and told me it would be refunded. So, here are my qualms:
This is a business - pick up the phone! Bonus points to set up an answering machine! If you have an online ordering system, it needs to be checked by staff in store. If someone orders, pays, and gets a confirmation online, the expectation is that it will be ready to pickup on or after the confirmation time!! This is 2023. Just like every other location we’ve been to, if they didn’t have the donuts we wanted premade, they would top them fresh for our order. When I buy them for family and friends, I come in knowing exactly what everyone prefers and I order accordingly to make sure they’re all getting what they want. The last time I came in, the guy was hesitant to top the 4 needed to make the complete dozen for the order. He asked if there was anything else premade that I could substitute for and then agreed to top the remaining ones. Today, I came in with a specific list making up a dozen order. The employee told me that she didn’t have 3 of the first half. I asked her if she was able to top the 3 needed and she advised me that I needed to choose from the premade display selection. I asked what happened if the display doesn’t include what they’re looking for, does that mean we just can’t order, choose these or don’t buy anything?
