So I'm very particular to Pizza, especially NY Style Pizza. They are far and between in finding the right kind of pizza that has the right cheese to sauce ratio. Having the right balance of saltiness and crispness to their dough. There is a famous Pizza spot in time square that usually has a long line and I can't imagine why, their dough tastes like an enchilada. Which I love, but it ain't NY Style Pizza, if people are coming here thinking they are having NY Style pizza from this restaurant that will remain nameless, they are missing out. Unless that's what floats their boat, to each their own, but it ain't NY Style Pizza.
Now enough about my love of NY Style Pizza, I stated that, so I can state that Artichoke is not NY Style Pizza, if they say or anyone else says, it's not. What it is, is amazing. They are unique, and the whole ratio of sauce and cheese goes out the window. Their sauce is heavy, their cheese is thick, their crust is crispy and thick. They dial everything up to 11, honestly, one slice from Artichoke pizza is like having 2 1/2 slices of a normal slice.
The most important thing is, it's so good. They are in their own league, and playing by their own rules and they are winning. I try my best to not go often, because it's definitely a guilty pleasure kind of food. Whatever you find online about pizza average calories being about 300, not this slice, I won't be surprised if a slice is more like 600 - 800 calories a slice and I love every...
Read moreI saw a social media post advertising Artichoke's delicious slices, so I decided to see for myself. Everything behind the display glass looks delicious. The ordering process moves so fast that you feel a slight sense of pressure when you're asked for your order, even if you already know what you want. Although they're (obviously) known for their artichoke slices, I decided to play it safe and ordered a slice of their pepperoni vodka (sauce) pizza. To my surprise, the slice alone cost nearly $9.
After you pay, the employee behind the counter gives you a receipt and tells you what your receipt number is. Then you slide a few feet to your left and try to find a place to stand in the narrow dining area which consists of 5-6 small tables and zero chairs. If you go during a busy time or on the weekend, there's a good chance that you're not going to find table space right away and will be forced to stalk the lucky table eaters and pounce immediately after they finish their last bite.
The pepperoni vodka slice was quite good, although blobs vodka sauce splattered onto my paper plate after each bite. The slice was filling and I'm glad that I didn't attempt to eat more than one slice.
They've got the usual condiments literally chained to the walls, which I like because people often "borrow" the parmesan, pepper flakes, etc., and leave them at their tables.
Would I return?...
Read moreI don’t even know how to start this review. It’s 11:40pm and I just got out from work craving a nice slice. I order with a gentleman named Kazi M and simply asked him to please cut a slice from the pie that was directly in front of me (on display) . This guy ignored my request and tried to ask one of the guys from the back to cut one of the pies that they had in the back. I once again politely asked him to please give me a slice from the pie that was already on display. He tried denying my request and proceeded to ask me if this was my first time there. I said no, it was not. I frequent this location especially during lunch time since I work nearby. He then said that I was the problem. He took the pie aggressively, cut the slice, with his bare hands picked it up and literally threw it in the oven. Lol At this point I wasn’t going to continue bickering with him. The customer after me ordered her slices, and asked that he does not touch the slice with his bare hands like he did mine. He bluntly said no, he could not do that, and so she just canceled her order and left. I was very displeased at how Kazi handled this situation and I hope that other customers don’t have to deal with...
