Man, this place used to be amazing.
I used to come here during and pre-pandemic for their quiches, their everything bagel croissants, and honestly, friendly service. Everything used to be really delicious and I'd rave about them on social media all the time.
Over the past 2 years, I've stopped by a few times, more so to give them chances. Sadly, every time I've gone, I've left more disappointed than the last...The pastries and sandwiches have really taken a turn for the worse, and paying $4 + tip for a super dry croissant or $5 + tip for a cappuccino rush job feels silly.
This past week was the final straw when I went in and saw the line curving around the entrance. This is totally fine (and even a good thing), but I saw how understaffed they were, and one of the people working there said really loudly, "Can we close if we sell out? I miss the days when no one came", followed by a really awkward silence. By the time I got up to the front to ask for a cold brew at 10:30 AM on a Sunday, the girl said "we're all out."
I honestly hope Bourke Street reads this because I genuinely want them to do well. I know that they're expanding, hence the potential reasoning behind being understaffed. But perhaps it's better to make the one good location great again, and not have a couple of very mediocre, unwelcoming shops.
Update: they reached out personally, apologized, and added points into my account. I've been back twice since then and things have honestly gotten better. Changing from 1 to 3 stars. I hope they continue to bake as consistently as...
Read moreI have frequently walked by here and seen many people online. So I decided to finally stop in for a cup of coffee and snack. I ordered a small coffee and cookie. When I was served my coffee I was shocked at how small it was. I have lived in NY my entire life and a small coffee is supposed to be 12 oz. This coffee was 8oz. An 8oz. coffee that costs $4 is beyond obnoxious... I asked the guy if this was the correct size and he said yes, we also have a medium. Their medium was 12oz. I said what you have served me is not a small it is called a short and is an absolute rip off. Then I opened the top and noticed he only filled it 2/3rd of the way. I then had to ask him twice to fill it to the top... Lastly the coffee was room temp. If you are going to completely rip off people you could at least keep the coffee hot. The snack was good but no better than any other high end coffee shop. I frequently buy high end coffee but I will not waste my time at this rip off spot. Do yourself a favor and walk one block south on 27th and purchase a Birch St coffee where they give you a normal size small coffee. The coffee quality is equally good and they are not trying to rip you off by filling your cup 2/3..What a scam...
Read moreI am extremely fond of Aussie-style breakfast and bakeries, and was truly looking forward to visiting the bakery for months. I reach the bakery at 3:30 looking forward to eating from their all day menu- turns out the kitchen closes at 3:00 PM. This information is not available anywhere on their menu or their website (only the opening and closing time of the bakery is available).
Although disappointed, I decided to order their vegan salad as I don't consume meat. The server gives me the salad, I take a bite and it turns out he has served me the chicken salad. Till this point in my life, I had never consumed meat. I go back to another server who confirms that the salad I was served was indeed chicken and not vegan. Although they exchanged the salad, both the issues combined, made the visit absolutely terrible.
This is unacceptable. The server did not seem to care much about his mistake. Would highly recommend to add kitchen times to your menu so that your customers are informed about what to expect and to hire servers who can differentiate between vegan and...
