Little sister to already mythical Ornithology Jazz Club, Café Ornithology opens at 11am on week ends, 6:30pm weekdays full coffee & tea shop, Lunch & brunch on week end, amazing VEGAN dinner nightly, plays music from the most amazing jazz record collection. Dinner starts at 6:30pm, two sets of Live music (7:30 & 9:30) EVERYNIGHT (!)+ intimate show @ 11PM + jam session @ 12! Incredible musicians, amazing Vegan restaurant, beer & wine, and the sweetest servers and bartenders! They even have a section with books for sale from local bookshop molasses. Jam session at the cafe is round midnight. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to hang out, read or get some work done during the day while enjoying gems of jazz music on vinyl, or for a great meal while watching and listening to great musicians! Bonus: the cover charge works for both cafe and club ornithology! So you can go back and forth, example: go for a coffee at 5pm while listening to a rare record curated by the amazing barista, get some reading done for an hour then head to the club, have a drink or two while enjoying the club’s first set, then head back to the cafe for a plate of hummus or a salad and enjoy the show for an hour there and head back to the club for a few drink until...
Read moreReally wanted to love this place, especially since it replaced Brooklyn Whiskers, but it was kind of a letdown. The $20 cover charge was a shock, especially when we were there for dinner. They had a student discount, but apparently you have to have a physical student ID—wouldn’t take my class schedule with registration details, virtual ID, or even my driver’s license (which is more up-to-date). Also the place was popping so idk why they were fighting so hard to not give me the discount.
There was also a card fee for the cover. We even asked if we could just sit outside and take our food to go, but they still wanted to charge us. Not sure if they start charging at a certain time, but we got there around 8pm.
Food-wise, the hummus was good, but the pizza was pretty mid for the price—$20 for tomato and arugula, no vegan cheese or meat. Also the hummus plate was big but it only came with 2 tiny pieces of bread. We litterally had to eat the rest with a spoon. I came because it was listed as “vegan cheap eats in BK,” but prices are way up and portions don’t match.
Cool vibe inside, but not worth paying cover on top of dinner and drinks. At least throw in a drink or app if we’re paying both. Pretty bummed, especially since it took over...
Read moreWhat a gem of a place!!! I have now been for both coffee/pastries during the day and dinner/ jazz show at night. Both were incredible. The morning menu is just an assortment of house made pastries and desserts, I ended up trying one of each thing bc I just couldn’t stop. They start serving a small lunch menu at 1pm!! The space itself is is perfect for getting some work done and hanging out. It’s cozy and has plenty of seating/tables. In the evening, the place turns even more magical. Live jazz every night and a small but delicious menu. Again, everything is made in house. We got the hummus plate, pizza with zucchini and mint, soupe du jour, house salad and a gluten free lemon cake. All were amazing, best hummus I’ve ever had. And the price point of all of it is the cherry on top. Such a beautiful...
