I had a wonderful dinner at Friedman’s. The West location also has a Chinese food menu in addition to the regular Friedman’s menu. I would describe the food as good quality, no frills American. We ordered two entrees and split them. First, we ordered the pastrami sandwich on gluten free bread with a side of yuca fries. The pastrami was tender, moist, and flavorful with a hint of pepper. The meat was lean which I appreciate. Now on to the yuca fries. Oh my gosh. I would come back just for those fries. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with just a hint of salt. Dip it in the aioli, which was laced with hints of lime. As someone who is allergic to potatoes, I couldn’t believe yuca fries were even on the menu. Not to mention, they are fried in a dedicated gluten-free frier! For our second entree, we ordered the General Tsos chicken. It came with brown rice and steamed veggies. The chicken was slightly dry, but the sauce was sweet and tangy. Overall, a 9/10 experience! Good atmosphere, friendly staff, and tons of gluten free options. I hadn’t eaten Chinese food in years, and I was so thankful for all of the gluten free options. I will be back!

Friedman's West and La Salle Dumpling have merged into one restaurant. The good news is that two people craving different cuisines can now dine together at the same place. However, the downside is that those unaware of La Salle Dumpling's presence inside Friedman's may find it nearly impossible to locate the restaurant. This unique establishment offers two completely distinct cuisines, prepared to perfection. In particular, the xiao long bao and Chinese-style noodles are exceptional. The brunch menu exceeds expectations, and both the coffee and iced tea are outstanding.

I have been to other Friedman’s locations and have always had a really positive experience. This particular time missed a bit. We ordered the Israeli falafel to share (they were out of the veggie burger at 3:30p). It was pretty flavorless and the pickled veggies weren’t very pickled at all. The tomato/cucumber/onion Israeli salad was on the brink of being spoiled. The fries were the real highlight and our server was attentive! It could’ve been that we didn’t order the best entree but their options for vegetarians are somewhat limited.

I have gone to this location 5 times previously. Each time the service was acceptable, the food ok and it was convenient as I live half a block away. It’s nothing to write home about. Except tonight. I went with my date and as we entered we had a very unfriendly guy behind the far away counter demanding to see our vaccine cards. I showed him mine and my date showed him hers. He became impatient and also asked for our ID. As I fumbled to take out my Drivers license I heard him impatiently asking my date for her ID again. Finally, I felt uncomfortable and we just walked out. We are both fully vaccinated. We had our ID. We were both rushed and, I I felt, both unappreciated and not treated as guests. Really poor on their part. I will, of course, never go back and I want my neighbors to know that this was a ridiculous situation that should never have happened. Now the good part, we walked over to the new Japanese restaurant Suram on West End and 61/62 street. They were so welcoming. They were courteous and pleasant. We had a great meal. I strongly ...

I don’t usually feel this way in restaurants, but for some reason, the waiter who served us made me feel unwelcome, like I didn’t belong there. She was somewhat rude, and when we asked for the bill, she didn’t bring it to us; she just told us the total and had us use Apple Pay. It felt like they were rushing us out. The food was good but she messed up our order. We ordered fries but after food when we asked she was like oh let me check and then we said you can cancelled as we already done with most of our food. I definitely Do want Not want to go back there again. I am South Asian and I cannot believe that I felt racism in 2025 in New York City. I really came to have some nice time with my special someone but ended up feeling sad...
