was really looking forward to this Caribbean spot after seeing the near perfect rating but was quite disappointed with my oxtail upon opening my tray. While rice and peas and plantains were fantastic, I found that the oxtail had way too much fat on them. I understand that oxtails are meant to be fatty but these oxtails were straight up not trimmed at all. The actual meat of the oxtails are good and the gravy goes great with the rice and meat but the sheer amount of untrimmed fat was a distraction from every positive of the tray, especially at $28 I want more meat than fat!. The side cabbage was also just kinda there , watery and leaning towards the bland side.( would definitely recommend getting double plantains because those plantains were awesome!) Despite my issue with the oxtail the meal was still enjoyable and the tropical rhythms drink that I got with it was fantastic. The staff are very nice and the restaurant was clean and air conditioned. I might’ve came on an off day but all together I’d rate the restaurant a 3 , I recommend anyone to come in and try it...
Read moreThe food at "Jerk House" was delightful to look at and smell as soon as I walked in the front door. Fortunately, thirty minutes later, after rushing home to dive in, the taste experience was as stimulating as the ambience enticing patrons of "Jerk House." Sencia served me with enthusiasm, and she creates an awesome rapport with all the customers I witnessed her handling. My late mother was an awesome Jamaican cook--so I do not delve out five star reviews for Jamaican food unless it is as good as "Mommy" used to make. It definitely was. Do not walk, run to "Jerk House" on 57th Street and 10th Ave; directly across the street from CBS studios. The 'piece-de-resistance' was the fact that Sencia had good 'Yardie' tunes playing in the establishment. One of my faves was singing through the restaurant's air waves (surround sound)-- it was a great as great as the cooked food I purchased. The incomparable Tanya Stephens was playing; I love her folksy reggae tunes. Every...
Read moreAfter hearing a fair bit about this group of restaurants and having this new location, I had to try it out. Not overly familiar with Jamaican food, but the staff was very kind, courteous and able to answer questions you may have. For $13 I got the medium jerk chicken which also came with rice & beans, a sweet plantain, steamed cabbage and vegetables with their jerk sauce on the side. Everything comes together with an explosion of different spices that works very well. The jerk sauce was great too and next time (cause a next time will happen) I will have the sauce on the meal. In that, you can ask for more of something and less of something so they are accommodating. They do have some seats available to eat in but this is more a grab and go spot. Overall a great experience and food that I will be back to try out more of the menu. If your in the area or not, this is well...
