Marcela's Tapas & Wine Bar — Restaurant in New York

The food here is impeccable!! Everything was absolutely delicious, kudos to the Chef!! My issue was with the service due to the lack of attention to allergies. We chose this restaurant because it advertises that it has gluten free options for almost everything which is what we were looking for. When we ordered we made sure that the server understood that we needed to sub for gluten free bread on everything because 2 out of 3 of us have an allergy/intolerance to it. He said not a problem and went back over the menu with us and reiterated that we requested gluten free bread. He first brought out regular bread for our friend who could have it and then came back out later and brought the “gluten free” bread out and told us that’s what it is. The bread looked very different from the regular bread so the two gluten free people each ate a whole slice. Right after they each finished a slice he comes over and says “omg I’m so sorry, that’s not gluten free. I brought you out the wrong bread.” They were both concerned but one of them has a severe allergy to the point they get very sick and have bad side effects therefore they had to go get “sick” in the bathroom in order to avoid any other issues. While they were in the bathroom the other two patrons told him how this is not okay and he just brushed it off. Thankfully the one who got sick was able to avoid anything serious and tried to enjoy the rest of the meal. The chef came out and apologized profusely and offered more cheese for the cheese board and was very sweet. You could tell she felt terrible and told us she made 2 boards and the wrong one got to us. We get it, things happen and gluten allergies are weird. The server though NEVER came back over after that and had the bar back serve the rest of our food. The next item we ordered we requested it come out on gluten free bread but it did not. We then had to get the attention of our server who was avoiding us to let him know of the mistake and to please just give us our check so we can leave. The chef came out again apologizing and clearly was not made aware of our allergy even though we mentioned so many times to the server. Then we tried to pay and was overcharged and when we were trying to explain this to the server he “sushed” us and made us feel even worse. The boy had no courage to come up to us and sincerely apologize for basically poisoning us and didn’t double check the rest of the food that was coming out. I was really looking forward to dining here, but unfortunately, the experience was a letdown despite the fantastic food.

We made a reservation for 7pm, but upon arrival, we learned there was no table available for us. What’s the point of a reservation if they fill all the tables anyway? We had to wait at the bar for around 45 minutes until a table opened up.

Once seated, the issues continued. The food took an extremely long time to arrive—not just for our table but for others around us as well.

Adding to the discomfort, our table was near the front of the restaurant, next to windows that were partially open. It was so cold that I had to wear my winter coat during the meal. There was a noticeable gap letting cold air flow into the dining area.

To top it off, the service was inattentive. We had to chase down our waiter just to settle the check, which was frustrating.

This was supposed to be a special birthday dinner, but it failed to impress. While the food was great, the poor service, long waits, and uncomfortable environment completely...

Marcela’s Wine Bar was such a great addition to this neighborhood. I absolutely love to come here and just relax and eat the amazing food they have here. I also think the prices are so affordable for the quality of the food. The pintxos manchegos are to die for, the Italian charcuterie board is amazing, the zucchini blossoms are also delicious. My kids love the patatas bravas with the sauce and the meatballs. The lamb skewers and the salad that comes with it are sooo good. We have been there so many times that I dont think there’s something on the menu we haven’t tried so far and we have loved every plate. The service is always friendly and they are very knowledgeable about the wines if you don’t know which glass of wine to get. It’s such a nice vibe for like a romantic date or just a going out with a girlfriend. The owners are so sweet, they always make sure their customers are content with everything. This place is...
