Update: I have since heard from Miznon and they have taken steps to prevent this from happening in the future. I appreciate them taken this seriously. I have updated my star rating to reflect this.
Original: this review after reaching out to management but not receiving a reply. I ate at this location on August 19 for lunch. The initial welcome and ordering process was great - friendly staff member who greeted me and provided overview of food choices. I ended up ordering the Falafel Burger pita. Presentation was good, whole roasted pepper was a great visual and added great flavor. However, after a few bites I looked up (was eating in the their space) and saw the staff member who had taken my order doing some prep work. Placing a brown paper pita wrapper in the tray used for holding the pitas, then inserting a piece of folded parchment paper. Normal, except that he did a nose squeeze wipe with the same hand that he then inserted the parchment paper with - no wipe, no wash. Gross, but we make mistakes. Next he scratched his head and then continued to insert the parchment papers. Ick. I was the only customer there, so I said to him "Not sure if you realize what you're doing, but you just wiped your nose and then scratched your head while prepping the pita wrappers." No reaction - just stared at me. I said something along the lines of how that's pretty disgusting and unappetizing. Continued to stare, except he had now looked back at this colleagues and they were all staring at me as if I had said something unreasonable. I just got up, brought my food to the counter - 'No way am I finishing this. Completely lost my appetite.' And I left. I didn't ask for a refund, although I probably should have. I just wanted to get away as quickly as possible. I reached out to management to share this story - not to get anything from it, but to hopefully prevent this from happening moving forward. Two weeks later and no reply, so assuming they don't care. Definitely do...
Read moreMiznon recently opened in Hudson Yards -- I was a huge fan of their Boston location so was excited to come by to give it a shot.
The menu seems to be updated daily (not uncommon with newly-opened places), but when we went they had a wide selection of both "in-a-pita" and "out-of-the-pita" options. For the two of us, we ordered the run over potato, the small (e.g. one piece) order of the batata, and the intimate stew (plate).
The potato was delicious! I love almost all shapes of potato and this was such a perfectly baked one. It was soft and fluffy, and came with a perfect amount of sour cream and butter with a lovely touch of scallions and garlic.
Batata was yummy, too. It was interesting to try the sweet potato with sour cream -- not a combo I've had before, but it did work! The baked texture of the sweet potato -- nicely crispy skin with a tender interior -- was great.
The intimate stew was definitely a let down -- in a word, everything was just so salty. The meat was tender and had a decent flavour, but it felt like we had to "drain" the sauce (or otherwise scrape it off), if not eat each bite with a copious amount of the pita, for the flavour to be balanced out. The roots (carrots, parsnip, etc.) were no better - the texture was nicely cooked to softness, but it was just so incredibly salty that we could not finish this dish.
This was definitely a mixed bag. I'm not sure to what extent the execution of the main dish can be chalked up to growing pains (esp with how delicious the side dishes were), but I'll probably wait a bit before coming...
Read moreI used to go weekly before it closed and relocated to another level. I went last week and I think the staff is high. I ordered my usual, and after paying, she told me the cauliflower is out. I said, ok so I’ll just take the sweet potatoes and green beans then. She rang me up for them, and I reminded her I had already paid for the cauliflower. Then she said oh yeah and subtracted the exact amount of the other dish (never mind tax and tip). So she was going to charge me the difference, because I ordered the large sizes and it was $4 more. I changed my mind to the smaller size, which is less, and she goes ok then you don’t have to pay. But she didn’t think to refund me the $3. She was happy to charge me the difference but not refund me my difference when the equation tipped to the other side. She then told me 10 mins later that they’re out of green beans. So i said just replace it with anything. Then the sides came out 15 mins after the main. I was confused to see they served me green beans after they said they were out. I didn’t mind, they’re great. The sweet potato dish (that consists of 2 parts: potato and sour cream) was missing the sour cream. I don’t recommend it. She had no idea what I was talking about so I had to read the menu aloud to her. It was fine, just a really odd experience....
