Wow! I enjoyed dinner at Naked Tomato last night and it was AMAZING. Delicious food. Excellent service. A casual but elevated "vibe" and dishes that provide a unique and diverse array of flavors and textures. The "small plates" of various salads that accompany every "main" were fantastic! So many different taste profiles (salty, crunchy, spicy). The house-made pita were warm, fresh and perfectly baked. We tore them apart and dipped them in the amazing (and generously portioned) bowl of hummus. We joked about feeling compelled to order what they list on the menu as their "World Famous Cauliflower" - but after the first bite it was clear they weren't exaggerating. I've never had a more perfectly seasoned and cooked veggie (I could have made a meal of that "side dish" alone - dipping pieces of it into the hummus). When the "main" dish of skewers arrived (we had lamb, octopus and ribeye steak to share between the two of us) they were incredible. I had no idea what to expect when we first sat down (I live nearby and hadn't been to the space since Bel Campo closed) but I can say, without hesitation, I'll be a frequent return customer. This is a GEM of a spot and not to be missed. Excellent food. Friendly service. Very reasonable prices (particularly for the amount and quality of food provided). FIVE...
Read moreTwo stars because the food did taste good. But the service was terrible. We went early on a Friday night, it was not hard to get a reservation and it was not busy. But our waitress never explained to us the rules properly even after we asked questions. She then gave us attitude when we didn’t order a $40 skewer per person and told us the little mezze plates were included with the meal. What she meant was that it would be $25 per person unless we ordered a skewer for each person. We did not come hungry and did not have an appetite to eat enough skewers for each person so had to end up also paying for the mezze that the waitress said was free and unlimited which was not accurate. It was okay, in that I didn’t get sick after but not worth the price for soggy pita. Other concerns, our waitress left us half way in our meal. We were their early enough for happy hour but she never brought our drinks so asked another server walking around who was then helpful. Additionally, they ran out of half of their menu, so we were stuck with a very limited menu to order skewers from. In the end, I will likely not be back because the vibe is at...
Read moreCondescending and rude manager. I'd say stay away from this restaurant, especially if you're local New Yorkers. There are so many Mediterranean restaurants in the city that can serve as great tasting food as this one. However, this is the one that ruins your experience with their operations, services, and to top it off, with the manager. After our meal, we went through 40 minutes of 5 iterations of bills as they could not figure out the exact charge for our table. And when the manager finally came out, she was extremely arrogant and her first question (not an apology!) was, "there is only $1 overcharge we did on your check, what is the problem here?" it really did it for us. When she added further to say "we have 2 servers covering all tables so there can be confusions but this is how all restaurants are nowadays" we were thrown off at how arrogant and unprofessional she is as a manager. And she asked us to take out our own calculators, yes!! she did!, to confirm her last bill was correct, we were very very upset. This is not what you want your customers to experience at your restaurant. I do not recommend...
