Nanshan Hot Pot - Flushing｜南山•熊猫烫火锅 - 法拉盛店 — Restaurant in New York

You'd think that it would be hard to stand out as a hotpot place in Flushing, but surprise! I was so happy after eating here and I've already come twice in the last few weeks haha.

Both times I came rather early, around 5:30 or so, and we managed to get seated immediately; but they definitely get really busy during peak meal times, so come early, make a res (I think this wasn't previously an option), or be prepared to queue.

We opted for the classic three-flavour broth both times, which has a spicy mala broth, pork bone broth, and a fruity (!) broth. The fruity broth is actually kind of similar to the pork broth IMO but just a tad sweeter.

Also, they were (are?) doing a promotion where the spicy broth can come with the spicy roe butter, so we did opt for that the first time, but to be entirely honest, we couldn't really taste the difference lol. And, the regular spicy one comes with the cute panda bear :)

Some highlights -

For meats we tried a few but my favourite was the American beef (美國肥牛) despite being one of the cheaper options - really tender and flavourful. I also quite liked the basa fish which had a surprisingly large portion size.

We got an order of the fish roe balls (魚仔丸) which were really delicious.

Veggies were very fresh and yummy across the board.

Sweet potato noodles were great!

Matcha shaved ice was definitely the low point of the meals :( I really hate popping boba, so maybe this is just on me lol but buyer be warned! Overall it did just taste overly/sickly sweet, but at least it wasn't too pricey.

For drinks I think you can actually order from the bubble tea shop next door (seems that they may be sharing a kitchen or something), and instead of desserts I'd recommend having some of their yummy orange slices at the sauce bar instead of their shaved ices lol.

And get the membership! I think you have to basically buy/load a gift card, but there’s no cost for the membership itself, and I will be coming here pretty often (and soon!) so it was a no-brainer...

Obviously all 5 star reviews mentioned about the panda cushion, blankets here are fake reviews from themselves. Let's talk about foods and price since it is a newly opened restaurant. Broth- 4-star, to be fair, I give 4 star to the taste of broth. We chose 3 flavors', tomato one is my favorite one. Rich but not too fatty. Meat- 2 star, they bring a mountain high bowl, but only several pieces on top. It is fresh, but it is what expected. They are all sliced from pre-frozen meat anyway. It is pricey. I saw they have Miyazaki wagu listed on menu, didnt bother to try. Dipping sauce -2, this is ridiculous that they charge for the dipping sauce. I don't even remember I saw a sign for it. I didn't pay attention to the bill,but it did charge $3.5 for sauce, then some additional $1.9. there's almost $10 unknown charges might be for the dipping sauce or for the 2tbs pickle tbs we took. I guess it is paid for their investment on a displayed electric nut grinder.

How they know if and how much we took sauce? During the time we were eating, a masked girl were holding a note book standing around keeping counting and writing for quiet a while. Come on, we ordered very limited dishes, aren't you good at math? It is very weird and rude behavior to customers. Stop doing it!! You are weird. We always eat at Bayside northern Blvd area, obviously, we will never go back to this restaurant. Too many better...

If you love both delicious food and cute décor, the panda-themed hot pot is a must-try. From the moment you walk in, you're surrounded by panda-themed touches—hair clips, pillows, and high-quality aprons that add a playful vibe without overwhelming the space. The aprons, in particular, are well-made and add to the fun of the experience.

When it comes to the food, the fresh cuts of Angus beef are incredibly tender. The Angus beef melts in your mouth with every bite. The shrimp paste, with its bouncy texture, is an absolute highlight—perfectly paired with the rich, savory broths. The Angus beef short rib is also a standout, offering juicy, flavorful bites. The ingredients are fresh and high quality, ensuring a tasty meal from start to finish.

The spicy hot pot broth was delicious until the panda completely melted and that broth was unusable.

The ingredients are all top-notch, ensuring that every dip in the hot pot results in a mouthwatering bite. Beyond the fun, panda-filled ambiance, the meal itself is the real star.
