This is one of the better cheap eat places around Chinatown that is not a tourist trap. Forget about Shu Jiao Fu Zhou where it’s chaos, or Chang Lai Fishballs which is cramped and tiny, North Dumpling is spacious, clean, and quiet. I’d say it’s a place where the locals go for a cheap meal. It operates like a one-stall food court with more affordable prices. You order and pay (cash only) at the counter, go find a place to sit, and you wait for your dishes to be called. Yeah, I don’t think they take names or assign numbers lol. Once you finish, you take your bowls and plates to the counter, or you can leave them at the table but you’d better tip accordingly.
Their menu is more extensive than the aforementioned SJFZ or CLF, meaning it’s less specialized. That said, the name sake does have the word “dumpling” in it, so we did order the potstickers which only come with one combination of fillings: pork and chives. The order came with 10 potstickers for $4. Great deal and you don’t have to stand at the street corners to enjoy. Each table have soy sauce, vinegar, and chili sauce. Another thing to note is they supply forks instead of chopsticks. They probably do have chopsticks but we didn’t bother to ask because everyone (all Chinese) used forks while we were there. Potstickers were good.
We also asked for an order of Chive Pancakes - $3 for 2. While good, I’ve had better ones in Flushing. The filling was less full nor as tasty.
Overall, I would recommend this place as part of your...
Read more$4 for 10 dumplings is a great deal but i was not blown away by these. i thought they were just meh, not that good. We came early so i’m not sure if we had whatever was left over from the night before but nonetheless they had no flavor.
We ordered pan fried dumplings and steamed. The pan fried dumplings were not crispy and imo it was way too doughy. There wasn’t any flavor in the filling, but it has potential to be great! The steamed ones were the same. I’m not sure if it’s this style of dumplings, but i was not a fan. If you do go maybe ask them for their fresher dumplings.
I found this place here on google maps by looking around finding places with good reviews. i always like to try new dumpling spots when i visit. I personally do not recommended if you prefer a dumpling that has a thinner dough & if you like chili oil (they didn’t have any, not sure if they ran out or just don’t serve it). I like mine to have a thin dough with a flavorful filling.
i’m sure other things on this menu is good but just my own personal feeling towards the dumplings. scallion pancake was okay.
The owners/workers were super sweet so this made...

Pan fried dumplings were fine. Not mindblowing, a little light on the filling and the pan fry was not that crispy but still solid, reasonably tasty, great portion size and cheap at $4.
The surprise was the sesame bing. It wasn't what I was expecting, I was expecting more of the southern style flatbread like what you'd get at a Taiwanese breakfast place, and it was more like a slice of foccacia. Was slightly disappointed at first, as it seemed doughy and was slightly wet (I think they warmed it by steaming and wrapped it which trapped the moisture), but bit in and was surprised how springy and chewy it was. Finished it before I knew it and was satisfying. It was $2, I'll try it was the meat next time I think.
Place is no nonsense. You're there to get food and be in and out. Sauces at each table. Lady is really...
